Hey all, with recent efforts to clean up the P&PI, I was hoping to cut down on the amount of stickies in the main forum. We're going to have one to catch all the stickies held in the d20 university, but I want to cut down further.
The "Want to DM a Campaign?" and "Calling all Dungeon Masters!" stickies are both very redundant and I believe they should be deleted. We can mention the DM usergroup in the rules thread, and the calling all dungeon masters really goes without saying; we can mention running games in with the rules sticky.
Additionally, the rules sticky is horribly out of date as people have moved on and practices have changed. I've posted a new thread which I propose to be the new rules sticky. My proposed changes to the rules are as follows:
Opening up the main forum for all d20 university-style homebrew and rules question threads, as well as discussion threads
Actually enforcing the old practice of posting character creation threads in the main forum and just moving the threads to the Character Hall when the campaign starts. This cuts down on threads as you don't have to post a separate charcter thread from the signup thread.
Removed redundant rule about needing a DM and 2-6 players
Removed redundant rule about using characters for one-shot adventures
Removed WPLs and replaced them with Moderators where they are mentioned, as we don't use WPLs in the Pen and Paper Inn anymore.
Removed rule about only letting d20 system games in the p&pI. We should really allow any pen and paper game from Dark Heresy to GURPS to World of Darkness if people really want to play. I cannot see a good reason to restrict these games.
Removed the list of WPLs, Moderators, and DMs. We do not use WPLs, the moderators are shown at the top and bottom of the page and anybody can DM if they want.
So, what do y'all think? Should we use these changes to the rules and the sticky?
EDIT: Apparently we DO use World Project Leaders, as I've just been made one for the P&PI, so I'll go and edit that back.
I think the character hall should still be used for character gen threads. Putting them on the main forum clutters up the whole thing and moves them down the list. If there were multiple games and/or prospective games going on, they'd constantly be pushed around. It just seems much more cluttered.
My solution is:
Put your character creation thread in the Character Hall. After everyone is done making a character but before the game starts, the DM has to put a link to each character in the first post of the Character Creation thread.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
Eh, the whole idea was that we would concentrate traffic into the main forum, so people that start with a character/signup thread don't miss any by not checking Character Hall.
By all means if traffic increases and the presence of character threads is troublesome then we can go back to the old way, but I figured that for now it wouldn't hurt. This way everyone who glances at P&PI sees what is open and what's up.
