Okay so for the last five year I have been trying to figure out how to made Magic a story-based Table Top RPG without ripping off other already existing table tops to do so. In the last few months, I have finally started writing the system out and Me and my fellow nerd will be play testing at the end of the month, if not sooner. If anyone wants the system I may post it on this thread if enough people are interested. Now for the fun put, I need lore/plot help. I am starting them out on Ravinica(The Toddler Pen on the Multiverse) and need help with NCPs and ideas my friend can't look up are the internet(Yes, this post is Ironic). So hit me with your best shot.
ALSO, WHAT HELL HAS CHANDRA BEEN UP TO! The story line gives us jack on her whereabouts in the blocks, I want to add her a character to help my players and frankly spice up the story.
Last night, we had our first play test/dungeon crawl last night and I have to say it went pretty well. Plot overview: Hired by an Mysterious Figure, Andes, a G/R beastmaster minotaur from Theros and Thanvalda, a Black human Necromancer from Innastrad, explore an ancient crypt buried deep below the surface of Ravinica. The two ran into traps and ancient spirits and sentry. The two (mainly Thanvalda) discover that the crypt was built by the ancient Azorius and was the final resting place of Azor the First, the parun of the Azorius and the architect of the original Guildpact. The two looted and killed their place (Andes tried to negotiate with everything, which failed. Lol) The two quickly made their way to the main crypt, where they ran into a planeswalker named Norex Malvain. Instead of fighting him, Thanvalda managed to persuade him into being indifferent( damn natural 20, no boss battle.) So Norex bailed after telling them they would meet again and they would own him for letting them loot the crypt. The two meet with the spirit of Azor the first whom didn't kill him in an instant because he sensed the guildpact broke. After much butt kissing from Thanvalda and a few attempts to loot Azor's corpse while he was talking by Andes, Azor gave them his blessing to rob him. They received Azor's Gavel, a powerful law staff, Azor's Journal and his petrified pllaneswalker spark before he promptly kicked them out of his crypt.
All in all, the system I made worked pretty well. I will be posting the system in a few days. So post your theories and ideas here.
The way I came to understand it, was that a spark was just a physical as it was ethereal. It was a physical thing while not being at the same time. We know little to nothing about Azor the first. When he died, what he did after he drafted the guild pact, nothing. So as the Game Master, I decided to make plot point my players couldn't look up and figure out easily. The recent events on tarkir gave me an interesting idea. The time spirals. How were they really sealed? Were they closed seamlessly or did we leave scars. And why were planeswalkers the only ones who could close them. It had to be more than just, "We are planeswalkers, We are powerful." If it was, the very nature of planeswalking wouldn't have changed. And then I think, what if the rifts never really closed. What if the rift could only be contained in a vessel of extreme power. The spark, if had nothing to do with the creature with the spark but spark itself. The spark and whatever connects one spark to another diverted all of the necessary mana to match and contain the rifts and then for lack of a better term, scabbed over.
So all of that being said, if Azor sealed a time rift in his own spark to safe Ravinica, his spark would "petrify". Not to much of a stretch I hope.
Anyway bash on it, expand on it, whatever. This is what I came up with so the people would have something plot wise that they would have to pursue to figure it out. So you know have fun.;)
Hey everybody, Who wants to have me design the Guild Leaders and Maze Runners? I'm going to need Power/Toughness, Life, Speed, and Exp.
Also since they are for the most part mages. What is there Channeling rate(How must Mana can they hold at any given time and how quickly can they call upon that mana.Explain: Niv Mizzet, being a super powerful wizard, can channel 10 mana, meaning his mana pool can be a maximum of ten. This also tells us how much mana he can generate a turn. First turn, Niv Mizzet has no mana, so he channels. He rolls a D20 and he will get a mana if he rolls anything higher then a 6. The next turn if he still has that one mana, he will have to roll an 8 or higher to channel the next mana. He will need to roll higher and higher until rolling for that 11th mana is impossible. Also mana is used up after you use it to cast a spell.
Their Command Rate, how many creatures can a Creature or Player have under their control at any given time. (This is mainly Designed for the DM, so someone can't spam with weenie creatures and cause the DM to Rage Quit because he is overwhelmed by the amount of movements and attack they have to calculate. Also it helps speed the game along.)
And lastly, what spells and abilities they have. Please be a little serious with this. No, Borborgmos has flying because you feel like it. Well that is all folks, have fun.
