I could just say "you're at 1 life" but that's too easy.
The life totals are you-19, them-3
You have a Confusion in the Ranks in play, along with a Mycosynth Lattice, a Propoganda, and a Delusions of Grandeur. You have killed all of your opponent's lands with various LD spells. He does, however, have a kicker'd Skizzik in play (untapped; can't attack b/c of Propoganda). From an earlier Peek, you know that he has a Demystify in hand to target your Delusions of Grandeur and kill you. If you play Flood Plain, he won't be able to break it for mana in time to play Demystify on the Delusions, and you can win with the Skizzik you traded the land for (they're both artifacts). If you played Flooded Strand, he would get mana and kill you before you won.
When you have a ______ in play, and have no cards in your library, and a Mortuary in play, you can change the name of the ______ to Jedit Ojanen, killing the Legend, and saving you from death next turn.

No you can't. It only works if both creatures have the same name and are both Legendary.
If you control Chaos moon and you and your opponent are at 1 life and you have a Metallic Sliver in hand, you could kill them next urn with the sliver, but you would burn for 1 off Gauntlet.
That is the problem with this game. I could come up with a billion (hyperbole) situations, where if just one element of the card was discounted, the cards would be exactly the same. Obviously, the above isn't an example of this, but you can't discount part of the card when doing something like this. It is part of the card, part of the card that makes it better or worse than another card in a certain situation.
You cannot discount any part of a card for a game like this to retain its continuity and make any sense at all.l

Heehee...but I can still find something!
If your opponent plays a spell, and then you play some important instant in response and also the counterspell, and if they play a Misdirection on your counter, with Memory Lapse, they can't put your instant spell on the bottom of your library!
When there are only three cards in your hand: Mind's Desire, Prohibit, and (card X), and your opponent has a Saproling Infestation and a Pandemonium and you are at 1, you could use Ostracize for a three-point Desire, while Coercion would leave you with only two.
u are at 2 life your opponent has blood rites, wall of putrid flesh, is tapped out and will kill you on his next turn, and is at 3 life; u attack with any 1/1
your opponent has slid out a duplicant with astral slide and has shared fate in play, your opponent has no cards in hand and neither player has any cards left in their libraries. you are at 6 and your opponent only has 5 sources of black mana
Next: fow> counterspell, no saying that its because you don't have anymore cards in hand or are at 1 life
Your opponent has an Ensnaring Bridge in play with 3 cards in hand.
Ornithopter > Phyrexian Walker
This one is just a matter of opinion... it shouldn't count.
