An ability exists on the stack independently of its source. Removal of the source after that time won't affect the ability. Some abilities cause a source to do something rather than the ability. Any activated or triggered ability that references information about the source checks that information when the ability is put onto the stack. Otherwise, it will check that information when it resolves. If the source is no longer in the zone it's expected to be in, its last known information is used.

I think I beat ras al ghul on the play. He has to remove red sun's zenith or I just kill him before he can do anything, and so I can vex wistful thinking, then on turn 6 I play mana crypt and vorinclex, and I kill him with vorinclex before he can cast decree to blow him up.
Hey, I just want to mention, this was a really fun week, and choosing the winners of each week to be the villains was a really nice twist. I thought you might use the winning decks from each week, but this was a lot better. Kudos. You do a great job moderating, Heart of Draco.
This one is impressively difficult to figure out. My stuff doesn't untap every other turn, and he gets to tap something during his upkeep.
If I'm on the draw:
1a. He leads with mountain
1b. I play forest, Helix pinnacle
2a. He plays another mountain and Kargan.
2b. I play mountain, and cast elixir.
3a. He plays mountain, levels Kargan thrice. He taps elixir. (20/18)
3b. My forest untaps, and I play plains, Wheel of sun and moon.
4a. He plays mountain, levels Kargan 4 times, taps nothing (I'm tapped out) attacks for 4 (20/14).
4b. My mountain and elixir untap. I play forest and pass.
5a. He plays island, levels once, pumps 3 times, and gets in for 11. He taps mountain or forest. (20/3)
5b. Plains untaps. I have 2 forests, 1 mountain, and 1 plains in play. I play a land of the same type he tapped last turn so that I can cast Rith's charm next turn. Let's just say he tapped mountain. So at the end of the turn, I have 2 forests, 1 mountain, and 1 plains untapped, 1 mountain tapped. Wheel of sun and moon in play, and Helix pinnacle and charm in hand.
6a. During his upkeep, I cast charm targeting kargan... to be continued EDIT: continued now:
6b. I give up, he wins next turn when he counters my charm.
If he plays dawn of the dead, he's sure to lose, so he doesn't play it. He can play near death experience if he wants but it won't help. 420 turns later, I win.
Some facts of magic:
-Terror is an emotion which, when experienced, results in death.
-The pox was a disease notorious for having killed one-third, rounded up, of Europe’s population. Smallpox, on the other hand, killed only a single person.
-A person riding a horse cannot be stopped by foot soldiers, large animals, walls, archers, or even catapults.
benbuzz, I'm fairly certain the Mr. freeze deck can target an already tapped permanent, and it will trigger his ability, since it doesn't specify that the permanent has to be untapped for it to not untap after being tapped.

We are playing with 2 electronic bits of data, that represents text names, that represent pieces of paper. That's all we got. We have less than the 2 bits of paper. We (moderators and players) and have to add something interesting to make this silly game worth playing.
Now that we're done with this month, I'm going to run either normal, backbuild, or Player Ideas after from 11/11/11 to the end of the year. That means I need your ideas! Post and discuss.
However, I'm thinking of running another theme month to kick off the new year. I'd love suggestions, but I'm leaning towards an Innistrad/Horror theme, having weeks due 1/6, 1/13, 1/20, and 1/27, so that the prerelease occurs the day after the last deck is due. I'd probably have a Zombie, Vampire, Werewolf and Spirit theme, perhaps with a Human theme Finale right before the Launch. Thoughts? Again, post and discuss ideas.
@Draco9: You should post your other land idea so that we can figure out the particulars, because I think next week will be a psuedo-normal week with the alternate land rule.

Doesn't the benbuzz matchup boil down to 'Kargan gets big enough to one-shot you with a counter on tap for the Charm'? Since Elixir can't gain life if he wants to redraw the Charm? It's basically a race between 'get to lethal' and 'get to 100 counters'...

Posting the alternate land rule, and also posting another zany special format idea.
Alternate Land Rule
If you would draw a card while your library has no cards in it, put a basic land card of your choice from outside the game into your hand instead.
Essence of the Wild
Players gain an emblem that has: ":4mana:, Exile a permanent card from your hand: Until your next turn, lands you control become copies of the exiled card. Activate this ability only any time you could cast a sorcery."
If I was able to make some tokens before looping it to prevent damage, I may have been able to race that way. But it's impossible - Mr. Freeze's "powers" are just too strong for my charm. Maybe if he didn't get to tap one of my permanents every turn.
What is the standard way you guys figure out the matchups? I try to look at "clocks" first, and how much one person can slow the other down. If there's too much interaction though, that doesn't work. Sometimes it's useful to look at the limit as the turns go to infinity, but again, if the life totals get close to zero, I have to just figure things out turn by turn.
benbuzz, I'm fairly certain the Mr. freeze deck can target an already tapped permanent, and it will trigger his ability, since it doesn't specify that the permanent has to be untapped for it to not untap after being tapped.
I assumed it didn't but I need to re-read the rules. I was under the impression that he could only tap untapped permanents, and that a permanent would only untap if it hadn't been tapped in the previous two turns.
Some facts of magic:

Quote from Format Rules »
Mr. Freeze
During this week, players had hexproof, and things didn't untap so quick.
Mr. Freeze does in fact have hexproof. While his permanents are just fine, while playing Freeze, whenever a permanent you control becomes tapped, it does not untap during your next untap step. Mr. Freeze also has another weapon up his sleeve: At the beginning of his upkeep, he may tap target permanent.
In order to "become tapped", a permanent needs to go from the untapped state to the tapped state. If Mr. Freeze targets a permanent that's already tapped during his upkeep, nothing special happens as that permanent didn't become tapped at that point.
This doesn't work like Frost Titan since its ability is a single ability that both taps a permanent and marks it to not untap the next untap step.
Quote from M:tG Comprehensive Rules »
603.2d Some trigger events use the word “becomes” (for example, “becomes tapped” or “becomes blocked”). These trigger only at the time the named event happens—they don’t trigger if that state already exists or retrigger if it persists. Similarly, they don’t trigger if an object enters a zone in that state. Example: An ability that triggers when a permanent “becomes tapped” triggers only when the status of a permanent that’s already on the battlefield changes from untapped to tapped.

Shogun's got it. There are 2 separate abilities as play. They are synergistic, but unrelated. The first one stops permanents from untapping for a turn after they become tapped. The second taps them; it can target a tapped permanent, and will resolve, but will have no net effect (like an exchange effect after one target is no longer legal: the effect resolves, but nothing happens).
Correction for Knobbodi v. The Joker. Pasting a chat log because I am lazy:
Adam: how does knobbodi 6-0 joker?
me: takes mana crypt
loses the flip a lot
joker can cast spells
Adam: but then doesn't he race on the play?
joker casts spells on turn 5
elemental attacks on 3, 4, 5
me: huh
seems like it
Vex is an auto-win. A big creature is an auto-win. RSZ is RSZ. And Crypt is too fast.

Wheel of Sun and Moon / Elixir of Immortality / Rith's Charm / Helix Pinnacle /// Goblin Festival
I focused on Ra's Al Ghul a little to much, but I at least did win that match!
(A) Two-Face: Feyd_Ruin
Show and Tell / Emrakul, the Aeon's Torn /// Volrath's Stronghold / Phyrexian Crusader
I can beat crusader + Volrath's stronghold easily by recurring Rith's charm and preventing the damage, and slowly building up with helix pinnacle.
Against Emrakul, I can't really do anything. If it were sneak attack + emrakul, I think this would be a bit different.
