I am currently trekking through all of Dragonball, DBZ, and eventually DBGT. I sort of forgot originally why I decided to do this. Really Dragonball and DBZ are great series, but my god the amount of filler and drawing out of fights is making me go crazy. The series could've been a third as long and lost nothing.
To give you an idea, the battle itself with Frieza is over 30 episodes. That's longer than most series.
I am currently in the middle of The Imperfect Cell saga. Wish me luck.
DBZ peaks with the Cell Saga, Buu is alright.
Also... Ehum..
Just finished season one of Code Geass. Dat ending...
I swear, were the second season not already out, I would be really pissed right now with that conclusion.
The ending to season 1 is infinitely better than the ending to season 2. Season 2's ending was the biggest aggravation I've ever had with a series since I attempted to watch Nanoha Strikers (I got about 2 episodes into that and quit watching because of the fact that calling it a stupid series would be a compliment owing to how soul-crushingly horrible it really is), while I actually thought season 1's ending was kinda neat.

Well seeing as I'm actually sorta enjoying season 2 thus far (though a lot of the material isn't exactly new), I'll stay optimistic. I will grant that you were right, it really leans hard on season one's development, cause there sure as hell ain't any in this one.
My point about the season 1 ending had more to do with people who watched this series when it first came out. I mean, talk about a cliff-hanger or three dozen. It was cool, but only because I could pick up the next season right away and figure out wtf had actually happened. I mean waiting three plus months for something like that would be torture

DO NOT WATCH DBGT.
No I've already seen every episode quite a few times actually, but I haven't sat down and watched the series from start to finish in years. But now after trying to plow through it I guess you could say I am having second thoughts.
Also I don't actually mind DBGT other than the Baby and Super 17 sagas.
I like high quality action anime. My favourite has definitely been Cowboy Bebop and the Ghost in the Shell TV series. Hellsing Ultimate and FLCL also really impressed me.
I pretty much stopped watching anime a few years ago because I found that there weren't great shows being made anymore. To give perspective, the last series I followed was Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, which even though is not an action anime, it was still hilarious and well done. I liked the first season of Code Geass but didn't want to pursue the second season due to poor reviews.
I started watching Darker Than Black as a lot of positive reviews has said that its similar to Bebop. I finished the first two episodes and I am feeling that is lackluster. Perhaps a bit over sold.
I was wondering if anybody has suggestions. I have a list of what I've watched. If you have questions about some of the series, I can give you an answer.
Asterisk means I got fed up and didn't want to watch the rest. Plus means I would like to watch more; however, its been such a long time since I've watched it I don't care.

I started watching Darker Than Black as a lot of positive reviews has said that its similar to Bebop. I finished the first two episodes and I am feeling that is lackluster. Perhaps a bit over sold.
It's one of those shows that starts out a bit slow. Stick with it for at least like 12 episodes, it takes some time to really get into its groove (especially action-wise) but the payoffs are worth it.

"Virtue, Jacques, is an excellent thing. Both good people and wicked people speak highly of it..."
So I just started watching Infinite Ryvius solely due to the premise that it's "Lord of the Flies in space." I'm six episodes in and I have to say they did a good job at making about half the cast wholly unlikeable while still keeping the overall story interesting. I really hope the plot's not going to turn out as predictably as I'm predicting, but no way to know until I finish the series, I guess.
Also given the voice actors, it's hard not to think of Brad Swaile or Kirby Morrow's various other roles rather than the characters they're actually playing (although Brad Swaile is at least more Amuro Ray than Light Yagami in this). But that just kind of goes with the territory of having seen so many Ocean Group dubs that everyone just kinda starts sounding the same after a while. They even have someone voiced by the same VA who does my avatar, who I totally would never have recognized if I hadn't looked it up.
I think I'm off to rewatch Code Geass. Oh, and I would say if you love Death Note, you'll at least like Code Geass. And if you love or like Code Geass, you should like Death Note.
Also, Light getting L killed felt like a Xanatos Gambit coming to fruition. You could see how the details of that single masterstroke came together in a way L couldn't escape from. Near getting Light killed felt like a Xanatos Roulette that should have gone wrong in so many ways but miraculously didn't.
It's probably worth noting that I like Light more than L. So there is that to consider. But as long as we can both agree that the live-action L movie is terrible, we're fine.
No. You just didn't get the point of it. <rageface>
It isn't just, a bunch of heart-palpitating drama and great counter-intelligence and detective work. Someone's actually writing a what-if here, situated on Human Earth.
Am I the only one, who knows why, that L, and Light, both had to lose?! ???!
Mikami Teru was not random chance. There are some scenes that aren't heart-attacks where some important stuff gets said. nerdrage
I agree the drama subdivided partway through.

Sadly, I haven't watched that much anime in a while. I haven't really seen anything that's caught my attention.
That said, I still intend to finish Puella Magi Madoka Magica and No. 6, the former simply because it's ****ed up (the good kind of ****ed up, like EVA) and the latter because it's full of Ho Yay. Maybe after that I can start on Fate/Zero: I hear it's pretty good.

Dunno, for me it was the opposite. I really was disappointed with Death Note, but love Code Geass. The latter just feels like a much better made version of the former. I mean I actually understand and can relate to Lelouch's struggles, both sides actually carry visible legitimacy (whereas in Death Note, none of the killed off villians after the first episode had any connection at all to the characters and therefore didn't really make Light's actions seem as noble as they were meant to), and the plot twists are just not two people with inhuman levels of cognitive ability, but are actually information about the characters, explorations of their motives, and unexpected plot happenings. Throw in the fact that the series has more than just one lovable character (sorry, I know some people like Light, but for the life of me he just came off as a arrogant prick, with only his own God complex to motivate his actions), and Death Note looks really crummy by comparison.
Note that's just my opinion, I know that there's probably a lot that I overlooked.

"Proving god exists isn't hard. Proving god is God is the tricky part" - Roommate
So yeah, just finished watching Code Geass. I...actually really liked the ending. I was struggling throughout the final segment to understand why Lelouch was doing what he was doing, and how this could possibly come to a satisfactory conclusion. The last 10ish minutes of the series though actually fulfilled both my concerns and I honestly was chuckling to myself with surprise and satisfaction. Very appropriate and enjoyable.
@Teia: You were right about season two not being quite as good, but it did have its share of "well played" moments that I really enjoyed. All in all, I loved the series, definitely worth a watch (though by the sound of it, I'm a little late to the party there).

No. You just didn't get the point of it. <rageface>
That's the thing. I do "get it." I just don't take the same things away from it that you do. Like in your spoiler, you mentioned that the story "had" to go a certain direction, which is nonsense. The story could've worked with any almost ending, from the "knight in shining armour saves the day" kind of ending to the Chinatown kind of ending (and for the record, I do like the way Chinatown ends).
And the whole "situated on human Earth" thing kinda falls flat when you consider that no one in the series really acts like a real person would. Light and L especially are written as characters first and people second, their conflict focused on telling an entertaining Thirty Xanatos Pileup story over being realistic. That's not an indictment on the show's quality or anything so much as it is a statement about the approach taken to the presentation of the plot and setting: its focus is primarily upon events.

Now imagine if S2 took the same overall style and presentation S1 did. This is basically why I'm so disappointed with S2: It could have been so much better had the series been more of the same.
I didn't really talk about how anything ended. For Death Note, I just pointed out that it could've worked in either of two extremes (without saying where along the spectrum the series actually lies), and for Code Geass, I basically only said the second season is worse than the first. As well as talking very generally about presentation, I guess, but that doesn't really spoil the actual story or anything.

Wasting time on Death Note and not watching Monster? Shame, H_H. SHAME.

Madoka and Fate/Zero: same director. Hence why you've been hearing it's pretty good. Madoka is one of the best anime I've seen like basically ever. lol
I don't think same director has much to do with them being good. Madoka was much better paced than FZ. Fate/Z has great settings but I feel cutting some of the chaff would have made it better.
Basically the plot was almost in the same place after ep 14 than it was after ep 2.
I dunno. I guess FZ by virtue of being Type-Moon and has intelligent characters is refreshing in its state as well. I do believe that the same director was pivitol to FZ's atmosphere, since the pacing's been done by the source material.

Your list of series' watched is dangerously close to my own, actually lol.
Though, most of what I see on here is reminding me that I haven't watched an anime I've really liked since Code Geass and FMA: Brotherhood (which I had already read all of the manga, anyway lol). I also like action anime, like you. Oddly enough, Yu Yu Hakusho is probably my favorite shonen anime ever. I tend to lean more toward reading, rather than watching, just because I can absorb that much of the story that much faster lol.
So, um, yeah. I'm just going to hang around and see what other people are watching and try those out myself. I haven't actually watched the anime for Monster even though the manga is one of my favorite things ever; I read the entire manga through in what seemed like a fervent and obsessive week-long stretch about three months ago, but now I'm kinda getting bored during my after-work downtime because I'm currently not reading/watching anything except waiting for Liar Game to eventually come off hiatus. <_< Halp.
Just finished C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control, and I enjoyed the anime overall. The characters weren't as interesting as the themes. I really liked the parallel between how money changing hands actually affects the world and the more literal effect the anime proposed. It was an interesting concept, with acceptable execution and the character design and music were both good. I would recommend it to anyone looking for something to watch at a 7/10. Above average, but its themes really carry it, and it has some truly well done scenes, but they don't make up for the lack of character development, and it is rather short.

Honestly, if C just went in the direction of Liar Game, it would have been much better overall, since conceptually speaking the anime's premise lends itself much more to a liar game style of "cat-and-mouse" than a shounen battle. Honestly though, I think the reason why I was so disappointed in C was because I was expecting something akin to Liar Game because of the premise, and it didn't deliver in that department.
The issue I had with the theme was that they could have done more to explore the theme than what was given, similar to how Spice and Wolf explored economics. However, I think this is due to the limitations of C being a super-short anime than anything else. I would have loved to see like a manga or something that expands on the themes personally.

Agreed on the bit about Liar Game, the theme did not lend itself to a shounen much at all. I really enjoyed Liar Game and wish I could see more like it. I also have an issue with the length. It really limited what they could do with such a great concept. I'd still recommend it just because I think it's something worth seeing, and it takes so little time to watch the whole thing. I'm currently watch God Only Knows, any recommendations for after that?

Yeah. I still read and been updating that list as well. But that would be a manga list.
Stories and plot are much better in manga, usually; however, I am missing seeing an awesome action scene go down. I even missed a few movies I watched on that list too.
^ Hopefully Gintama comes back. Maybe they went too far this time? Gintoki always comments about being cancelled. Shinpachi always tried to stop him from talking about it lol.
The show also comments on the mangaka, the anime studios and some other people IRL.

No. You just didn't get the point of it. <rageface>
It isn't just, a bunch of heart-palpitating drama and great counter-intelligence and detective work. Someone's actually writing a what-if here, situated on Human Earth.
why, that L, and Light, both had to lose?! ???!Mikami Teru was not random chance. There are some scenes that aren't heart-attacks where some important stuff gets said. nerdrage
I agree the drama subdivided partway through.
Awesome avatar provided by Krashbot @ [Epic Graphics].

@Teia: You were right about season two not being quite as good, but it did have its share of "well played" moments that I really enjoyed. All in all, I loved the series, definitely worth a watch (though by the sound of it, I'm a little late to the party there).
Wasting time on Death Note and not watching Monster? Shame, H_H. SHAME.
Madoka and Fate/Zero: same director. Hence why you've been hearing it's pretty good. Madoka is one of the best anime I've seen like basically ever. lol

<_< Halp.

I'm looking for something a little darker to watch next. Any suggestions?
Have you tried Puella Magi Madoka Magica?I am more than sure that it qualifies as dark (plus it is quite a good watch as well).
Just watched the first episode. Cripes, what sort of shrooms were these animators high on. It seems cool though, thanks for the recommendation.
