I've caught a couple eps when I was flipping by Treehouse and saw it on. Lauren Faust's art is pretty good, and in an era of ****ty cartoons, it is well written. Too many people I know won't shut up about it, though, and that can get annoying.
Also it seems like it's the third point of the holy trinity of things you don't talk about without starting an arguement, along with politics and religion.
Obsessed, OBSESSED with ponies, myself. CAN'T WAIT FOR SEASON 2!!!!!!!!!!!!
As for the comment about crappy cartoons nowadays... I'd completely agree if this was 2008, but this decade has been going very well for cartoons in my opinion. Not only is there MLP:FiM, but Cartoon Network has a very strong line-up lately. Regular Show is flippin' awesome, Adventure Time is great, Johnny Test is pretty good, The Amazing World of Gumball (or whatever it's called) is pretty solid, MAD is a show that I'm not a personal fan of because the jokes are very contrived and juvenile but I know if I was a kid I'd find it hilarious.
Not a bad line-up at all... but I know what you mean, cartoons have gotten the shaft in the last 7 years or so...I'm just glad it's turning around.
I like it. It's better than msot other cartoons out there. I like the animation. The stories, though kiddy to some extent, mean something. It has some nostalgia appeal to the older generation while bringing in something fun for the kids of now.
I don't see what's so hard to understand about it's appeal. Ever since Shrek came out, it's become obvious that you just need the Big Dramatic Moment of Awesome to appeal to both children and adults, and MLP does that in every episode. I mean, come on, tell me you didn't get a little choked up when the blue one finally accomplished the Sonic Rainboom
not to win the competition, but to save the white one.
By the way, if this thread is inclusive to FiM then I'd suggest you change the title to reflect that fact, I was going to come in here asking if anyone has any G1 customs that my sister might want to buy or if anyone has found any cheap deals on a Rapunzel.
My expectations were very low when I clicked on that link... but, wow! Those are really clever and well done.
(My 4 year old has watched it before and aside from the Irony Appeal I can't see why any adult would want to watch it.
About the only thing worse I can think of is having a child adept at using the rewind feature on any video device to watch the same-damned-forsaken-scene-over-and-over-and-over. That can take even a very well written movie or show and turn it into the absolute abysmal experience that makes a Ewe Bowel movie look like a real winner.

Love the show seen every episode of season one over 7 to 8 times. My Little Pony Friendship is Magic is hands down one best shows on tv today. I like the lessons learned in every episode and Pinkie Pie cracks me up every time she does something random.
Looking forword to season 2 like everyone else which will be starting the 14 of this month for any one who didn't know.
OMG JUST WATCHED EPISODE ONE OF SEASON 2! SO SCARY AND SUSPENSEFUL!
I HOPE THE PONIES TURN OUT ALL RIGHT! XD:xd:
Yeah I really love this show. I actually became curious about it when I saw users for MTG Salvation with My Little Pony avatars. I looked it up on Tvtropes.org, started watching it on Youtube.com, and was hooked. It's one of the few shows for kids on tv that actually have positive role models for young girls. The characters actually care about their friendship with each other and every character is interesting and unique in her own right. My favorite character is Rarity. She's so pretty! And generosity is a really cool virtue for a cartoon to be extolling, especially in such a greedy and self obsessed age. The art is gorgeous and colourful and it's nice to finally see a cartoon that that has such a great sense of aesthetics.
I've been trying to find at least one other magic player that has watched the show, but have so far been unsuccessful, sometimes garnering criticism and (gentle) fun at my expense. I haven't got any of my friends to watch the show either. I feel like that mom in the Cheerios commercial where her daughter keeps saying "Thats For Babies!" over and over.
But truth be told, I am actually more excited for Season 2 of freindship is magic then the release of Innistrad (blame the 2 faced cards or just three years in a row of sets where the bad guys win, but,) I can't wait for more colourful ponies and their uplifting adventures in discovering friendship, especially in soggy old Portland during an economic downturn. It would be so nice if Magic: the Gathering had a set that eased away from the killing and dealt with themes like love, kindness or cooperation someday.
I am petitioning for the removal of mythic rarity. Sig this to join the cause!

LOL!
I love the design of Princess Celestia. How she's more horse-like and bigger then all the normal ponies to make her unique. Even if I hated the story, (witch I don't) I would probably watch this show for the animation alone. It's such a pretty show!

After seeing this thread, I got curious and decided to watch an episode. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. (It was the one where the ponies went to the Gala.) The musical number was actually well-done, and it was pretty refreshing to see a mainstream show for children with a positive moral lesson in it.

Lorwyn was probably as close as we'll get. I loved the bright setting and the fact that the "bad guys" were generally regarded as mischief makers rather than horrible, brutal monsters. Unfortunately, it seems as if that wasn't a popular kind of setting among the general Magic audience. I like the dark stuff, too, but I think we do need a break from it once in a while.

Lorwyn the book wasn't lighthearted at all. It was all about the racist elves and their genocidal quest for perfection. Rhys the Exiled is exiled in the first place because he has the audacity to have a broken horn. Then he accidentally kills a bunch of people. It wasn't funny. It wasn't uplifting. It was just more of the general malaise of macho brutality that is the typical Magic storyline. It's one of the main reasons I don't pay attention the the magic storyline anymore. It's too much of a downer. The webcomic has been alright, mostly because they don't unnecessarily kill off beloved characters anymore, but it's still annoying that in the last three years of storylines, the bad guys win. Even the most unambiguously positive character active right now, Elspeth Tirel, has now been revealed to have molested by Phyrexians as a child. Looking forward to a whole new year of horror, the fiction genre where fiction good has the greatest likelihood to fail, and I feel like it's kind of burned me out.
I guess I'll just have to look for uplifting, escapist fiction in other places then Magic: the Gathering. But MLP:FIM is a huge step in that direction.

This... I watch it with my 2 year old, but wouldn't otherwise.
whoops.. I didn't even realize that there was a new version of MLP... I was talking about the old MLP. I watched some of the new one with my daughter. She seems to love it, and it gave me a break from endless Spongebob episodes (my daughter looooovess that sponge).
It wasn't bad. The artwork is well done and the voice acting was pretty good.
but seriously, I still don't understand this meme brony thing... I still vote for Dungeons and Dragons cartoon of yesteryear
Got done watching the opening of this new season. Not bad Pinkie Pie won on so many levels like always. One thing will say I so want to punch Discord in the face. I never thought any character would make me mad as those 2 ponies who mocked Applebloom, but this guy took the cake.
I've seen so much Friendship is Magic on the internet, I feel like I have to check it out. I watched the first episode today, and it was pretty good. My brother wanted me to wait until after his work (at a liquor store, so crazy hours...) so he could watch the 2nd episode too.
It's a huge shame that it's not on BD. I usually hate Flash animation, as opposed to frame-by-frame, but there's some interesting stuff here.
Yes the second half of the opening this season was very good, but it felt a tad off. I was hoping see the Cutty Mark Crusaders do something seeing they was kind of the reason Discord got out. Hoping the next episode is a Crusaders episode. So love their episodes last season, big fan of the Showstoppers episode most of all just for their kick a** song.
The Gala episode (that's the season one finale...yes?) is awesome because we get full blown Flutterage. The great ones are always quiet and modest until pushed too far. Than they become 20% more bad ass.
I think they can build on the fact that Fluttershy has all this other crazy knowledge besides animals. Yeah...I can do that too. Even if I forget I have wings when really scared on a regular basis.
You WILL LOVE ME!
