playoff pairings are official now, let's see some predictions now.
Eastern conference:
Penguins vs Islanders: Penguins in 5. While the Penguins are a much better team IMO, I can see the Islanders stealing a game.
Habs vs Sens. Habs in 6. Two relatively evenly matched teams but I can't see the Sens making it to 7.
Capitals vs Rangers. Unsure on this one but I'm gonna say Rangers in 7 . I had a hard time with this one but I think the Rangers could grind out WSH.
Bruins vs the Leafs. Bruins in 5. Two physical teams playing each other but I think the Bruins outmatch the Leafs just that much. However, regardless of who ends up winning, I hope both teams end up beating the living **** out of each other since I hate them both.
Western Conference:
Blackhawks vs Wild. Hawks in 6. the Hawks are a much better team but I can still see Minnesota stealing a win or two
Ducks vs Red Wings. Ducks in 5, I dunno if the Red Wings can keep up with a team like this.
Canucks vs Sharks. Canucks in 7. While I dunno if either team has much left in them, I could honestly say either team could win this, I give the advantage to the Canucks though
Blues vs Kings. Kings in 7. Gonna be another intense series, but I give advantage to the Kings
agree/disagree with my predictions?
critique them too
Unless someone on the sharks steps up, I think the canucks might have it in 5/6, I still haven't forgotten what they did to the sharks in 2011, especially with most of San Jose's grit (McGinn, Clowe and Murray) from that season gone.
Kings and Blues are going to be a bloodbath, Backes vs Brown is an interesting storyline for sure. I still think the Kings are going to come out on top in 6, based solely on the fact that LA has superior scoring.
Chicago will sweep Minny, it's like they're not even in the same league.
Detroit and Anaheim will be interesting for sure. I still think the Ducks have superior depth which will get them the series win.
Boston vs Toronto, the B's have a more veteran line up that has sufficient playoff experience and superior defense and goaltending which will probably get them the win.
Montreal vs Ottawa, this one can go either way. I think Ottawa will win this one because they're surging right now and Montreal's been a mess in the last week or so (last game non withstanding)
Washington vs New York. This one is exciting, Ovie being the best again will make this series awesome. However I would tend to think New York will win on the back of King Henrik, but I can see them going to 7 games.
Pittsburgh vs the Islanders, Pittsburgh for sure, especially if Crosby returns. Unless the Islanders have some magic, I think the Pens will have this in 5.

My west preview (as I didn't watch the east this season).
Blackhawks v Wild: Blackhawks in 5. I think Minni will steal a game, but they limped hard into the playoffs and have some serious constancy problems.
Ducks v Wings: Wings in 7. My feeling this season has been the Ducks have been over achieving and Detroit has been underachieving. As such I have Detroit taking a close series.
Canucks v Sharks: Canucks in 6. The Sharks are great at home and have Niemi. After that it's flaky at best. As such I'll go with the better all around team.
Blues v Kings: Kings in 7. I honestly don't know who'll end up winning, but I'll go kings by default.
Unless someone on the sharks steps up, I think the canucks might have it in 5/6, I still haven't forgotten what they did to the sharks in 2011, especially with most of San Jose's grit (McGinn, Clowe and Murray) from that season gone.

Blues vs Kings-looking forward to seeing a bloodbath from them
I think playoff experience is what the Leafs are lacking right now. I mean do they even have anyone whose had a good playoff run? Not to mention how long its been since they've made the playoffs
I think the way Montreal has been playing is atrocious but I hope they'll pick it up now that it's the playoffs
I think the WSH-NYR series was the hardest one to pick for me becaus eof how intense it will be
I'm going to go with some predictions here as well:
Eastern Conference:
Penguins vs. Islanders: The Penguins are the better team here, and while I like the Islanders, I think the Penguins can win this in 6. If Tavares managed to tear it up and the Islanders goaltending can remain consistent, then the Islanders may have a fighting chance.
Canadiens vs. Senators: I think this relies on how consistent Cary Price can be. We've seen Montreal go from one of the hottest teams in the East to a flailing mess based on Cary's consistency. The Sens have a good roster, some veterans and the freshly returned Karlsson, so I'm giving the edge to the Sens, but I think it's all based on how well Price can play. Sens in 7.
Bruins vs. Leafs: This one should be exciting. Toronto has managed to beat Boston in the regular season, and they both have pretty even rosters. Reimer has managed to be a strong goaltender this season, but we've never seen him perform in the playoffs, which could be an entirely different story. I'm giving it to Toronto, but it's really a toss up. Bruins in 7.
Capitals vs. Rangers: Two very talented teams with a lot of potential, but I have to give it to the Rangers. I just think that have a better roster, more equipped to handle a team like the Capitals. Rangers in 7.
Western Conference:
Blackhawks vs. Wild: Blackhawks in 4. Next.
Ducks vs. Red Wings: This is a really interesting one. While the Red Wings have a veteran lineup with a solid amount of talent (Zetterberg, Datsyuk, etc.) the Ducks have been a real big surprise coming in to this season, and I don't think Detroit will stop their momentum. Ducks in 6.
Canucks vs. Sharks: I'm a Sharks fan so call me biased but I'm giving it to the Sharks. What people fail to realize is that the Sharks have played the Canucks, and won all three encounters. The Canucks are a solid team but can be inconsistent, much like the Sharks. Also, we have Niemi, with a Stanley Cup under his belt. Sharks in 6.
Blues vs. Kings: One of my favourite matchups, the Kings are defending their title while the Blues are trying to grab one. Two pretty potent teams, but I'm going to give it to the kings. They just have a solid roster and a talented goalie too. Kings in 6.
Western Conference:
Chicago vs. Minnesota- Blackhawks in 5. The Wild played them tough all year, but Minnesota could have easily missed the playoffs, and some argue should have with that terrible "no goal" during the Colorado game. The Wild are still in free fall. Pound for pound they're one of those most talented teams in the playoffs, which is why they won't get swept but Chicago is on another level.
Anaheim vs. Detroit- Red Wings in 6. Detroit had the Ducks' number all year and this series will be no different. They're playing great hockey at just the right time, similar to LA last year, and their puck possession style will be a nightmare for a team that has been inconsistent even in vcitory.
Vancouver vs. San Jose- Sharks in 7. The Canucks have had to deal with injuries, so with them finally being healthy, I could see them winning in less than seven, but I like the Sharks offense, and their ability to get in the opponent's zone. Vancouver played in a weak division.
LA vs. St. Louis- Kings in 6. Good series, and could easily go 7 with Hitchcock's defensive style of hockey, but St. Louis just doesn't have the depth at scoring.
Eastern Conference
Pittsburgh vs. Islanders - Pens in 4. Just a bad matchup for the Islanders who are better than what this series will indicate. I think the Pens win the cup, not just because they have ridiculous depth with guys like Crosby, Malkin, Neal but because their grit acquisitions in Iginla and Morrow have been playing like men possessed. These guys want it, and it's showing. Only way they falter is through goaltending.
Montreal vs. Ottawa- Senators in 6. Montreal has inconsistent goaltending while the Sens are playing with pride. It's the series I'm least sure about because Ottawa is barely an NHL team when you think about it, but in a playoff series where a talented team playing poorly with unsure goaltending against a young team with great coaching...I've gotta side with the ladder.
Washington vs. New York- Rangers in 6. Ovechkin is one of my favorite players to watch when he's playing like the complete player he is, so I'm fascinated by this series because of him alone, but this team benefited from a very weak division. They're playing hot now, but so are the rangers. Callahan and co. should be enough to stop a brilliant player who took half the half-season off.
Boston vs. Toronto- brutal matchup. Toronto is one of the few teams in the league that is meaner, and tougher than the the big bad Bruins, and this one could take its toll on whoever wins. The Bruins have much better depth (though not by much; their 3rd and 4th lines have been invisible), but the Leafs have played them tough all year. Toronto's a great story, but I can't pick against Boston with all that Cup experience, what with 16 active players on their roster having hoisted it not long ago. Bruins in 6.
They're gonna have a much tougher schedule next year with the new divisions, playing teams like San Jose, and Anaheim a lot more. The team had some mediocre stats in a mediocre division, but got by in great goaltending in the regular season. Tag to the disappearing act of the Sedins (who had how many goals in the last 15 games of the season aagin), and you've got a franchise that needs to think about rebuilding. What are they since the Boston series in the playoffs...1-10 or something?
Who beats Chicago in the West? Anaheim seemed to play them tough, but I'm still not sure they're getting Detroit, who has played them tough all year. Hell, who beats Chicago period? As much as I love guys like Morrow and Iginla, I'm rooting for Ottawa. Fun team to watch, with a great coach and a ton of passion.

Not only will VAN struggle in the new division, but its fire sale time for a team that doesnt have a lot of money to spend. Luongo and Ballard/Booth should see compliance buyouts unless theyre lucky enough to get peanuts for them at the draft. Either way it will leave VAN 9 million to sign 8 players.
I still have LA winning the West and the Cup. No team is built better top to bottom and their style is perfect for playoff hockey. STL has/had the best shot at beating LA because both play a similar physical grinding style.
And while its a little late, my series picks were:
PIT in 6
MTL in 6
NY in 7
BOS in 5
CHI in 5
DET in 6
SJ in 6
LA in 6
Penguins vs. Islanders: The Penguins are the better team here, and while I like the Islanders, I think the Penguins can win this in 6. If Tavares managed to tear it up and the Islanders goaltending can remain consistent, then the Islanders may have a fighting chance.
Penguins won it in 6, I was spot on!
Sens in 7.
While the Sens didn't win it in 7 like I predicted, they did win the series overall.
Bruins won in 7, again I was spot on.
Capitals vs. Rangers: Two very talented teams with a lot of potential, but I have to give it to the Rangers. I just think that have a better roster, more equipped to handle a team like the Capitals. Rangers in 7.
Rangers won in 7, again spot on.
Blackhawks vs. Wild: Blackhawks in 4. Next.
Blackhawks won in 5 instead of getting the sweep, so I was off by one game.
Ducks vs. Red Wings: This is a really interesting one. While the Red Wings have a veteran lineup with a solid amount of talent (Zetterberg, Datsyuk, etc.) the Ducks have been a real big surprise coming in to this season, and I don't think Detroit will stop their momentum. Ducks in 6.
I was wrong here, Red Wings managed to overcome the Ducks and steal a game 7 win.
Sharks actually managed to sweep the Canucks, which is pretty awesome. Didn't totally get it right, but I predicted the right team.
Blues vs. Kings: One of my favourite matchups, the Kings are defending their title while the Blues are trying to grab one. Two pretty potent teams, but I'm going to give it to the kings. They just have a solid roster and a talented goalie too. Kings in 6.
Spot on again. King won in 6.
So out of all of my predictions, I got 7 out of the 8 teams right (screwed up on the Ducks, underestimated the Red Wings), and three of those rounds I got the game totals correct as well. Not too shabby.
7/8 in my pick em pool, good enough for 2nd place (get 50 pts for correct series winner, 25 for series length, and 5 for each game winner). Ive got PIT in 6, NY in 6, CHI in 5, and LA in 6

Shame on you! This is why I don't bet on playoffs when my team is in, heart Vs head is something I never want to face.
that will be big for them.
much needed 2 points for MTL tonight, not expecting much from them anymore
Eastern conference:

It doesn't help the fact that Ottawa has been good even after all their injuries.
i think whoever wins game 1 will probably win the series

Gionta and Pacioretty are out for Game 2
The Habs will be missing Gionta, Pacioretty, Eller and Emelin
If Montreal comes out with the win it will be huge for them
Pull off a win they did, 3-1.
Hopefully that gives them a lot of confidence.
I'm happy with Price too though
Go Habs Go
Ottawa just murdered Montreal
The intensity was through the roof
that game was purely atrocious.
Montreal didn't show up at all, they deserved to lose
Maybe next year Vancouver, but I'm not holding my breath.

Rangers over Bruins in 7
Senators over Penguins in 6. If Anderson can continue his strong play,I can see Ottawa making it past Pittsburgh
Kings over Sharks in 6. Even though Sharks swept last round and the kings had a problem with the Blues, I can still see the kings winning.
Blackhawks over Red Wings in 7. I can't see Detroit winning but I can see them giving Chicago a run for their money
