I've been on lastfm since 07 I think? I think it's cool. I hardly ever use services like spotify or pandora, including the lastfm version. But they're pretty identical imo.
Lastfm's taste thing is cool, and I've found new artists because of the recommendations it gives you. Especially if you go out of your way to find new music, you can definitely find a lot.
I've been on l.fm since '06. I used the radio feature briefly back before spotify/pandora were things and liked it, but then they made the mobile app a premium feature so I stopped.
I like it because it's amazing for learning about new artists, similar artists and new shows/releases. Usually the releases are weeks behind, but I've become more lazy about discovering music lately so it is still helpful.
i've never used the radio feature on last.fm, i just use it for the stats because i'm like that. it is good for finding new music though, since you can just go through related artists of bands that you like.
I am a "Last.FM Snob" meaning I try not to listen to music period unless it "counts". In other words I want each time I listen to a song, for it to count as a play in my charts. There are some people who take this obsession too far as you can tell they just let their music library play all day whether they are their or not...just so they can say they are biggest listener of a particular song or artist on the entire internet. LOL.
The recommendations are the key. Once a month I will go back to that Recommendation page and take the first 2 or 3 artists and youtube some songs and if I like it. I will download a discography (if its not insanely huge) and literally listen through, keeping what I liked, what has potential, and tossing the crap. The albums that are spectacular get bought as CDs for backup purposes. The recommendatiosn page on last.FM combined with the 'Album Releases Dates in (Year)" page on wikipedia are what fuel my new music additions and its nice balance of totally new stuff and new releases from artists I already love.
I didn't use last.fm for like 3 years, but I just recently started using it again. I have been using it to track the songs I listen to on pandora. Makes it much easier than going to youtube and liking a song that I might want to get later.
I stopped using last.fm for a while, and then made a new profile because my taste had changed quite a bit over three years. Anyways...past your taste!

I'm so confused. How do you use it to track songs that you've listened to on Pandora? Sorry if this isn't immediately obvious to me and I have to ask.
Thanks for the testimonial. Unfortunately, when I try to use that service, all I get is Team Songza's "deepest apology". Eh.
Now, I can't really try it to see how that compares and why it is better or worse.

There is a web plugin for Chrome and Firefox that will let you scrobble Pandora and some other web music players to your l.fm account.
Anyway, is this service or the program any good? Why?
How does this compare to Spotify or all the other programs or services out there?

The charts/reports are also pretty cool.

You login with your Pandora user/pass and start playing your Pandora radio stations and they scrobble to last.FM
