Well I just got back a few hours ago from Tower Records, purchased MF DOOMS Vaudeville Villain and I will say simply that this man is crazy when it comes to lyrics and the beats and music are pretty damn good.

Great choice, that's actually supposed to be his best album...I just love "Saliva"...
Did you get "The Mouse and the Mask" yet, though?

Nice, nice, after you get "The Mouse and the Mask", I recommend these albums:
"Madvillainy"
"Venomous Villain"
"Take Me to Your Leader"
Remember, MF Doom is weird, so sometimes he changes his name to stuff like Madvillain, King Geedorah, and Victor Vaughn, so when you search this stuff in Amazon, search for the titles only, not the artist.
And others...and don't get me started on the other big underground MCs other than MF Doom right now; Immortal Technique, Brother Ali, Ill Bill, and Sage Francis.

You're absolutley right, when I went to Tower REcords i was like "do you know where MF DOOMS vaudvill villan is" and then the guys like oh no its in the "victor Vaughn" name in rap i'm like "Wth he has other names and sections"??
Yeah, for example, even "The Mouse and the Mask" is under "D" as in DangerDoom, since it's producer Danger Mouse and MC MF Doom.
That's why Madvillain is big producer Madlib and MF Doom...He does that a lot, and it's really cool.

Well two issues came up in the Oasis thread and I was about to respond when I realized I was really getting away from the actual topic and more into general music discussion, i.e. this thread. So two questions for you all:
What do you think of the soud currently coming out of Britian. The examples I cited before were Interpol, the Kaiser Cheifs, The Smiths and Damian Rice. There are others that soud very much British but I am unsure so they will not be listed.
The second was brought up by MikeyG. Instead of posting a summary I will just quote his post:
That's one big reason I turned away from mainstream music outlets, too. The over-sensationalizing of one or two singles, while other songs by an artist get left out in the cold.
I agree with him here, what are your guy's feelings on the issue?
As for British stuff, I've only heard of Damien Rice from what you listed, I enjoy most of his stuff. The Killers are from Britain as well, they're stuff was good for a certain amount of time, but I either overlistened to it or just wasn't in love with it, I'm not quite sure.
If by mainstreamed music outlets you mean mainstream bands, I'd definitely agree with you on that. Most of the music I listen to is very obscure, and I like it that way. This way, I have no idea what the two great songs are on an album before even purchasing/downloading the album. Most albums I listen to as wholes now rather than just putting the 10 best songs from an assortment into a playlist and playing it over and over again.
However, some artists really only have one or two good songs, in which none of their other songs merit and type of recognition. Alas, VH1's One Hit Wonders were born.
Nope, they're from Las Vegas. A UK-based label was the first to pick them up, but they're American. And their best songs weren't released as mainstream singles (I'm lookin' at you, Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine and Under The Gun), yet are totally worth the price of the cd. They're a perfect example of what I was trying to say and SorryGuy quoted, The Killers had a few singles that were played literally to death, pretty much to the point where the songs start to become unlikeable, meanwhile, the best stuff by them are the unplayed gems on the cd that radio station and music channels don't bother to play since they're not the 'single of the moment'.
Well, I’ve been bumping Brother Ali and Kanye West right now…Went back to West’s solo debut, “College Dropout” to remind me how awesome he was back then and how awesome he still is. And the Brother Ali album, “Shadows on the Sun” is ****ing unbelievable. I’ve played it so many goddamn times.
In other music news, I’m so ****ing pumped that the Fugees are coming back together
For those who are retarded, the Fugees are a really kickass group consisting of Grammy winning geniuses Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean…and oh yeah…the other guy who’s okay and has a deep voice, good old Praswell. Heheh.
But back in the early nineties, they shook the scene up with “The Score”, which was huge, and is about the best selling international rap album ever.
Then Hill and Jean went out for brilliant solo careers while Pras…well, he’s okay.
Now after fighting and apathy, they’re finally back together for an album in the…distant future, I suppose, but there’s already a song leaked out called “Be Easy”.
It’s not unbelievable, they’re sort of rusty from not being together for a while, and Hill hasn’t done much music lately compared to her less brilliant compatriots.
Yet, I feel the old energy under Hill’s hyped up vocals, Wyclef’s rhymes and Pras’ deep growl.
Sounds like goodtimes to me, I can’t freaking wait. It’ll be huge.
In other news, I’m totally pumped about Fort Minor- “The Rising Tied”, Mike Shinoda’s first ever solo rapping debut.
Sure he’s not unbelievably skilled, but I’ve grown to like him, mediocre or not in the rap skill area.
Fort Minor, the side project and solo debut for Mike Shinoda of multiplatinum, Grammy-winning Linkin Park, returns the emcee to his roots-making hip-hop. The Rising Tied, produced by Shinoda, who wrote every track and played nearly every instrument was executive produced by Jay-Z. Featuring guest appearances from Common, the Roots Black Thought, John Legend, Linkin Park DJ Joe Hahn, alt-funk rocker Kenna and two acts signed to Linkin Park's Machine Shop Recordings, Style of Beyond and Holly Brook, The Rising Tied raises the standard for unique, unadulterated hip-hop.
It’ll be kickass.
And ooooooh yeah, System of a Down’s little connection album to the entertaining “Mesmerize” is coming out… “Hypnotize” on…THE SAME EXACT DATE SHINODA’S ALBUM IS COMING. November 22nd.
Damn SoaD! Why do you always come out on like the same day as an album I’m hyped for?! I’m pretty sure “Mesmerize” actually came out the same day as the Gorillaz’ “Demon Days”, which was aight.
About the album, I’ve listened to the single “Hypnotize”…and I’m not so pumped anymore. It’s…nice. But I doubt the album will be as good as “Toxicity” or “Mesmerize”.

I feel like an idiot for thinking the Killers were from Britain...oh well
/me shrugs
I'm not sure whether to dread or be excited for the new SoaD album...I think Toxicity was their best album...I've listened to Mesmerize, but I'll have to listen to it when I go to sleep or something, most times I've listened I've been spacing out or doing homework or something.
I just got some new stuff off of I-Tunes and am really liking Mortiis. I got the whole Fodt Til A Hersky(I cannot spell) album and it is awesome.
BTW-Amon Amarth is an awesome name for a band, and their music is pretty good.

I haven't listened to Mortiis, what kind of metal is he?
All I know about him is that he dresses like a dark elf, which is pretty sweet. Amon Amarth definitely is good.
Mortiis is actually more of a minimalistic synthesiser band/thing actually, especially his earlier stuff. All of his stuff is pretty good though from what I have heard. BTW-If you have ever listened to Burzum, his stuff is rather similiar, except he is not a Nazi like Varg Vikernes.

At any rate I made the same mistake. I guess what I meant was a british soud and not just british.
As far as the Killers I agree with you Mikey. Jenny was a friend of mine and Under the Gun is by far the best song on the Deluxe edition.
Right now I have been listening to alot of Nada Surf and soem stuff off of Death Cab for Cutie's Plans. Another artist who most of you have probably never heard of and prefer not to is Jem, but I have been listening to her for a long time and am wondering if any of you guys have heard of her.

Once I buy my guitar (which is after I save up enough to move agan, so probably no time soon), I am learning how to play Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine. Even if it kills me. One of those songs where I absolutely love it musically (Flowers' vocals wear on me after a while, not harshly, but he sounds almost strained sometimes). I especially love the bassline.
I've heard of Jem. I think I heard about her a year or so ago, one of her songs was on tv or something. She's not too bad.
Death Cab is alright, but a bit too near-emo for me. Or at least the fans are.
/me shudders at the memory of his encounters with DCFC fans ...
I've heard of Death Cab before, what's a good album from them? I've heard them before and they sound pretty decent. I'm more of a metalhead myself, but some mellower stuff is always good to fall asleep to..it's hard to fall asleep listening to Black and Death metal...
One time when I was really tired, I fell asleep to Screamo... The Locust to be exact. BTW-If I tried, I could probably easily fall to sleep to Opeth, Burzum, or Mortiis.

Hohoohohoh! Good thing I bought my copy in a Tower Records in Paris. Seriously.
But there're like four Revolution Vol. 1's at the Best Buy close to South Coast Plaza...Good stuff....
By the way, his next album, "The Middle Passage", comes out January 2006. Kickass!

the Kaiser Cheifs: they are British. they're good - a little too derivative of the clash.
The Smiths: not exactly au currant, but quite good. Possibly the best band mentioned.
Damian Rice: Don't know his stuff.
The Killers aren't British, they're from Las Vegas.
