I'm really high on MF DOOM right now. I see he's in your signature. I don't know why it took me so long to find him. I mean, he is pretty obscure, especially with all his different identities, but come on, he's a legend. I feel ashamed. Been listening for about a month and a half now, I have all his stuff (I think... his library is so extensive).
El-P's new album has been kicking for a while now. Some Das Racist, too, I like them.
About Frox: for nearly 10 years, Frox has been helping women look good and feel great in easy-fit, mix-and-match, and work-to-weekend with just a few pieces by helping them make the right choices when it comes to clothing and accessories.
Ah nice, love seeing DOOM getting some love. He's definitely a straight legend and genius in the genre for sure. Love him.
His library and different identities are very extensive for one man, but that's definitely part of his charm. haha Dude is such a hard worker.
Still waiting on a full DOOMSTARKS though, oh sweet jesus it's going to be amazing.
I've been on El-P lately too, but have none of his stuff sadly. :/
You seen the eXquire video with him, Despot, Danny Brown, Das Racist and El? So good. I'm hesitant to post it here, but go youtube that **** if you haven't seen it, it's so good, it's called The Last Huzzah.
Anticon, Anticon, Anticon. I can't get enough... Especially the older stuff. Doseone, Alias, and Sole primarily, but a few others here and there like Passage and older material from Sage, Aesop, Buck 65, etc...
Any of you guys heard of Shad? He hasn't really released any amazing albums to be perfectly honest, but he's a really good MC and an awesome guy. Check out The Old Prince.
Just saw that Odd Future put out a new video for Sam Is Dead. Still on the fence about OF as a whole, but I do like Tyler's style/delivery/flow. His verse in Rella is amazing.

I guess I'll just start name-dropping ****.
Aesop Rock's "Skelethon" drops on the 10th. The released tracks, Zero Dark Thirty and ZZZ Top are both sick as ****. It's probably gonna be Aesop's most polished album yet, from the songs he's released so far, in the sense that the recording and production sounds more professional than his past work. It's gonna be good to have an Aesop album with no song that's just unforgivably loud and un-melodic.
Shabazz Palaces, I've had "Black Up," for a while, just now gave it a serious listen. Good stuff, intelligent, pretty out there on the beats, some of it is definitely worth a listen.
Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) released a new mixtape the other day, "Royalty." All-star guest list: Bun B, Beck(!), Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Danny Brown, RZA (yes, of Wu-Tang, I think it's his first guess verse since coming out of retirement), and about a dozen others (there's at least one guest on all 17 songs, with two on several, and a fistful on the closer-), including, I **** you not: Tina Fey. 30 Rock Star/Writer, frequent SNL guest, Sarah Pailin look-alike. She raps, and it's hilarious (Gettin racks on my racks/Gettin Racks in Nordstrom/Gettin Racks on Racks in the Rack!).
In the way of the Indie stuff you guys have been feeling, B. Dolan released a new album pretty recently. I haven't heard much of it, but I hear awesome things about it, and he's never released a single weak track.
Lupe Fiasco should be releasing a new album this year, called "Food & Liquor 2." Let's hope he lives up to the promise, though from the two tracks he's released already (***** Bad and Freedom Ain't Free (Around My Way), there's no doubt he'll fulfill his promise. The former is a mind**** about the politics of casual misogyny, the latter is Lupe just rapping his mind about the rap game, culture, politics, and what's expected. Pretty sick so far.
You guys pretty much have to listen to Death Grips. The stuff they have on "The Money Store," is just incredible (not even Exmilitary can compete, and that was like my 3rd favorite rap album of 2011). I'm sure a couple of you care: despite being signed to Epic Records, they're still DIY. The highest budget they've ever used on a video was $35, which is also the only video they've ever spent on.
Big K.R.I.T. released "Live From the Underground," about a month ago, and it proves that Return of 4eva was a fluke. He's just not underground anymore, he doesn't even touch conscious **** on there, the productions are boring if you ask me, so on so on.
Given that it's the summertime, there'll probably be a flurry of loosely scheduled releases soon, including (Hopefully!) GOOD Music's "Cruel Summer" in the early Fall .
Ah ****, I completely forgot about Ace's new album. It's been marked on my calendar for forever.
Like Childish Gambino a lot, thanks for the heads up about his new tape. Definitely excited about seeing RZA on there as a guest. And Danny Brown. And Beck... as in Mellowgold, Loser Beck? If so, that's ****in awesome. haha
Never a big fan of KRIT or Lupe.
I'll definitely check out Death Grips though.
Also, a little off topic; RZA's Man with the Iron Fists trailer came out the other day. Waiting forever for this thing. haha
I listened to Childish Gambino's new mixtape. From someone who's listened to him since the beginning, I definitely did not like it as much as his old stuff. I don't like the people he collabed with (except for Ghostface, but that was just okay. And Beck was a surprise), and his beats were weak compared to what we saw with Culdesac. And his lyrics were diluted. Disappointed.
I thought he said "rap was going to change after him" and "use real instruments and ****." It sounds pretty generic to me.
Like, honestly, I felt like stopping the mixtape when I got to "Toxic." What the **** was that?
EDIT: Oh yeah, and I heard Death Grips when The Money Store came out. Some of the weirdest stuff I've ever heard
About Frox: for nearly 10 years, Frox has been helping women look good and feel great in easy-fit, mix-and-match, and work-to-weekend with just a few pieces by helping them make the right choices when it comes to clothing and accessories.
I thought it was pretty decent, from someone who's been listening to Gambino since Culdesac. But to each their own.
I thought most of the collabs were great. RZA's and Ghostface's were good imo (I may be biased here; Wu fanboy haha).
Toxic? You don't like Danny Brown?! Shiiii. haha
There were a few songs that were a little.. miss, but most of the tape was hit for me. I'm enjoying it quite a bit (only through once right now though).
Oh, and R.I.P. was awesome. I love Nightcall though. haha Bun B was good on it too.

Yup, that Beck. I don't think I'll ever stop associating his name with "Centrifugal Force, knocking me off course," though.

I'll admit, it's pretty different from what he's done in the past, but it's still top-notch, and honestly, most of the features were excellent. Guess it's just not your thing, but I'm cool with mainstream Rap with underground flair.
Death Grips is weird as ****, I love it. They say that their next album (which is slated for fall! Seriously!) is supposed to be their hardest yet. I won't even doubt them, because I didn't think it got harder than Exmillitary.

I gotta agree with you, few weak songs but the features just totally redeem that. R.I.P. was one of the best new songs I've heard in a while, Unnecessary was intense, and Silk Pillow was straight up surreal.
I'll have to listen to some more Death Grips before I decide if I wanna get my hands on Exmilitary. From what I've heard so far though, I like em. Definitely different, and definitely hard.
Ah ya, I was going to say something about Unnecessary actually. I had heard it a while ago and was impressed then.
Couldn't agree more about Silk Pillow being surreal. A lot better than I thought it'd turn out, but of course I shouldn't doubt. haha

I'm pretty sure Exmilitary is a fee download, so you really shouldn't have to think that hard.
Considering just handing the link to Silk Pillow over to a sig shop, and having them make me a sig out of ANY quote from it. It's just that bizarre.

It's not him though. It didn't sound like him. Toxic sounded like a Weezy song or something. It just wasn't him and that's what disappointed me the most.

Danny Brown or the beat? It was produced by skywlkr, and it was a bit "hood", but it wasn't bad. A lot of the beats Danny raps on are pretty hood sounding, but his delivery always makes up for lackluster production.
I know I've heard other songs produced by skywlkr, but I couldn't find a comprehensive list anywhere to compare Toxic to his others.
But if you're talking about the beat, I agree with you. haha

Both Danny Brown and the beat. The beat was not a Childish Gambino beat, whether it was a mixtape or different producer or not. And Danny Brown was just weird on it, but that's just personal taste in rapper.
But, if you noticed, a lot of the songs that were produced with Ludwig sounded even more mainstream than Camp's tracks. By mainstream, I don't mean like anti-hipster. It's just, it's not the type of sound Ludwig put together for Culdesac, the EP, and Camp. Maybe because it's just a mixtape, I don't know. But it seems like a continuation of Heartbeat and his radio success to me, and not that indie style he had in the beginning.
EDIT: Oh yeah, actually, Danny Brown in Toxic might have the worst verse I've ever heard

So, Aesop Rock's Skelethon is out. Still loving it after a couple listens. Much more cohesive than his past albums, with the common themes being lethargy, apathy, and wasted potential. This runs the field from the fairly relaxed "Leisureforce," and "Fryerstarter," which are about his love affair with relaxation and food, respectively, to "Gopher Guts" and "Zero Dark Thirty," which deal with his failures as an artist and a person.
In between, we see some marvelous storytelling, though there are a lot of weak spots in the second half of the album.
I've only listened through it once, and as background while gaming, so I wasn't paying a lot of attention, but I enjoyed it. Definitely good. I can comfortably agree with all your post. Well most, I didn't feel much of a lack in the second half, but like I said, only one listen as of right now. haha
So, let's discuss our favorite genre of music fellow hiphop heads.
What have you been digging recently?
Also, I got a lastfm if anyone is interested. Shoot me a friend request or whatever if you feel so inclined.
