How many writers, performers, etc. do we have on here?
What do you play?
What style of music do you write and perform?
And if at all possible, can you share?
I'm a recently retired guitarist with a ton of history in metal bands that never went anywhere, and I've turned my attention to the world of electronic music.
Some tracks up on my soundcloud at Douglasthered
I was involved in various parts of the music scene for years. I was a singer in a metal band for a few years in high school, and even did a small State tour with one band. Nothing major ever came of us though. Then I dropped singing when I lived overseas and discovered DJing. I spent about 13 years as a turntable DJ, and eventually stopped because I was getting too old to deal with all the scene drama and really didn't like that everything was going to Ableton/Serato. I had 4-5 mix cds out, but nothing really online since electronic music evolves so quickly that most of them sound really outdated.
I am a Classical Trombone player, as such I primarily play orchestral music but do a bit of jazz or chamber music as well.
In addition to Trombone I also play guitar and love the metal/rock scene: Mastodon, Alter Bridge, Pink Floyd, to name a few.
in a metal band, Solace in Exile =)
I play bass and write. We had a small run before going into hibernation due to a band meltdown (half the members were kicked out over a 7 month period). In that 2 years we were the full 6, we opened for sonata arctica at the galaxy in santa ana, and for gamma ray at the key club. Kai helped me move some equipment back to my car after the show o.o Nice guy.
Currently, looking for a (capable) singer. Ya think this would be easy, guitarists who can shred seem a dime a dozen, but a metal singer not married to glutturals or who wants to be the next king diamond is for some reason, rather difficult to obtain... having fun though, laying the tracks out myself on my guitarists pro tools and Mbox
Till the mbox stopped catching the lower frequencies clearly ;_;
Those things are so dang expensive...
oh yeah! We have a page on bandmix (one of our attempts to find a singer) incase anyone wanted to listen: http://www.bandmix.com/solace-in-exile/
it's just 3 random songs of ours with the vocals removed~ haven't gotten to mastering them yet though, waiting for vocals.
I sing(hehe, i call it singing)sound like reymond watts & Tim Skold, play bass (simple stuff mainly), same goes for guitar. Keyboard and can program a drum machnine. Most of my music is electro industrial stuff but im in a band that does noise grunge (big black meets nirvana). Ive written songs(lyrics mainly and some music) in various styles from death and black metal to shock and noise rock. My style now is hard to explain but similar to bands like PIG, KMFDM, The Spooky kids & Big Black. My skill level is not where i am comfortable playing a show but i hope to get there soon.
I am a Level 10 (RCM) piano player. I decided to put some of my pieces on my SoundCloud, here.
(Note that while I do play piano, what you hear here is just the midi files from my computer. I can actually play these though.)
Viola - 8 years of lessons, in uni for music
Piano - since I was 6 and stopped lessons when I was ~14, trying to get better on my own
Guitar - self taught, terrible at it
Bass - have one, rarely play it
I also write poetry and paint. I play piano with a floormate and his band when they want to jam. They play blues and the guitarist is very-well trained.

I'm about the same. I picked up a guitar earlier this year and approached learning how to play the same way I would learning how to operate a fork lift: research, trial, and error. Whatever a natural musician is, I'm the exact opposite. I still find it incredibly fun, though.

I meant in terms of finger dexterity and technical skill as I already know advanced theory. Finger picking with my right hand is very difficult for me and I have to spend my practice time on viola, plus when I have extra time I prefer piano.

I've been playing guitar for about 4 and a half years or so, and I'm desperately looking for a drummer. My buddy used to drum and is always making noise about getting a new set so he can keep playing, but he's just been so far behind the last few years that he's nowhere near where he needs to be to play what we were going to play.
I'm self-taught, but I'm a very fast learner. To give some examples of what I play, I can play almost everything by Lamb of God, lots of Mastodon, decent bits of All That Remains, As I Lay Dying, Dream Theater, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Amon Amarth, Opeth, The Sword, Gojira, Metallica, and quite a few others.
I currently play on an Epiphone Les Paul Special II with a 75W Line 6 amp, but I'm looking to buy a DBZ Bird of Prey 7 string pretty soon.
I haven't played in an actual band, though I've been invited to play in a couple public settings, such as a coffee shop. (hilarious)
Most people that want me to play guitar for them can't believe that I don't know how to play the Eagles or Sweet Home Alabama and other crap like that. Well actually, the Eagles have a few decent tunes, but yeah. Either way, most of my family and the people I'm supposed to play for have no tolerance for metal, so that's a bit limiting when it's pretty much all I play.
I'm in a rap duo with my best bud from back in middle school. I'm 25 now. We're currently getting ready to record our first video for our song "Envious" fpr the CD we just put out "Straight to the Glovebox"
I play in the band Addlestone Gate. We have a British rock sound and we motly play shows backed by a symphonic orchestra. I play bass and sing back up vocals for it but I can also play drums at a professional level and I'm working on being proficient on guitar and keyboard. Heck my band actually has an album being released on March 1st so if you like that kind of music check us out.
I'm a guitarist, mostly self-taught but with some lessons whenever I got stuck in a rut. I've been playing since I was nine. I'm mostly into progressive and melodic death metal. I'm fairly versatile though. I played jazz in high school. I even won a "best rhythm section performer" award at a jazz festival we played in grade 11, which is an award that almost universally goes to drummers or pianists, so I was pretty happy about that.
I have a particular affinity for 7 string guitars. I love the extra range.
I'm a long time vocalist, I had private lessons for about two years, and I'm pretty confident in my singing skills. I sang with a ska band for about four years, and now I'm actually starting a new band right now.
I'm also a half-decent keyboard player, and a pretty decent guitar player as well. I'm not too crazy with either instrument, but I'm not terrible either.
Sounds good! Love the style. I've always wanted to play the guitar better, just never have had the time, or motivation, to pick it up and try. Besides, I think if I could play guitar and had a couple drinks nobody would get me to STFU.

I'm assuming you are asking me this?
Yeah I'm self-taught, there's this program called Guitarpro that I used to get to where I am now: started playing guitar in 2008.
I've hit a major wall though and am in need of some kind of revival!
