This looks absolutely fantastic. At about 0:45, there seems to be confirmation that there is more than just Godzilla in this movie, too (too many monster claws).

"Proving god exists isn't hard. Proving god is God is the tricky part" - Roommate
I really hope this movie is like the 1954 original and focuses on the fact that Godzilla is ****ing scary and an absolute force of nature that CANNOT BE STOPPED.
Basically, give me the intensity and fear shown in Mako's memory scene in Pacific Rim every time Godzilla appears and destroys everything and I'll be happy.
I am just in awe at how absolutely HUGE they make him look in these trailers. It's hard to convey that sense of scale, but by god, it's like watching a freaking mountain move around.
Put 'Youtube' in brackets and copy and paste everything after the '=' in the web link (in this case, ECUbuBrbP1g). I've already done it in my OP, though.
the new trailer looks fantastic. I'm really excited for this movie. If they can capture the feeling they gave Godzilla in this trailer through the entire movie, it'll be the best Godzilla film ever made. He definitely feels like a force of nature.
Hoping this won't be shaky-cam, no-monster. The previews make me give me hope that the cinematic will be well done, but the story could be a giant egg.
Shaky-Cam and No-Monster like Cloverfield? Don't we already have enough found-footage films as it is starting with Blair Witch Project 15 years ago? This new Godzilla flick could be better than Pacific Rim but that's a bit of a stretch though, speaking of which has anyone here seen Nostalgia Critic's review of Godzilla (1998)? As Matthew Broderick put it, "Wow that's alot of fish!"

Frankly, I'm excited for this. Godzilla was always one of my favorite franchises, and now that the dust has settled from the horrible '98/'00 Zillas, with the success of Pacific Rim (I imagine this was to test the waters), we're finally gonna see a new Godzilla.

From what I've read of comments, he's supposed to be quite larger than his original 1954 version.
That being said, that is BIG.
Just counting the days till this movie comes out in theaters.
I don't think the size is accurate based on the trailers. It is however, an awesome poster. I have a poster at home that makes him look much bigger than the city he's in. This is still going to be the biggest Godzilla yet, however, as Final Wars Godzilla was about 100 meters tall and the rest hovered closer to 50 meters. I think this guy is estimated as being around 100-150 meters, so bigger than Final Wars but not taller than a skyscraper.
Is Godzilla suppose to be that big? I was under the impression that he was the size of a relatively large skyscraper. He's on par with the Skyline in the poster, I think, otherwise you'd have to see him in the trailer when they show the skyline of the city burning.
edit: or is the poster not depicting proportions correctly?
This is weird, it hasn't displayed my comment.
Anyway, from what I've read he's bigger than Final Wars Godzilla, who was 100 meters tall, but not taller than the city skyline or we'd see him in the long distance shot of the burning city in the trailer. Among the dust, you can clearly see buildings in the background around his height broken. So I'd say he's somewhere between 100-150 meters tall.
Earlier Godzilla's tended to stay around 50 meters.
-Why's the Statue of Liberty in a place that is obviously not NYC?
-You can clearly see that there are a number of different monsters, and presumably a couple that are as big as Godzilla itself (that giant skeleton?) I think the movie is attempting to create a basis for future franchises, or at least a movie universe that can be revisited in the future if the movie does well.
-Godzilla is ******* huge.
To answer your question Magicware, it's the replica Statue of Liberty in Vegas.
I think there are multiple monsters, at the very least what they've shown us so far points to Rodan being a potential monster (the 'claw thing could be one of his wing-fingers', and there is a flying monster in the clouds at one points), although they may be all-original monsters. The Comic-con footage has reportedly shown Godzilla stomping a large bug (Kamacuras or Kumonga, maybe?). Here is hoping they at least riff off of the old monsters. The tail with the claw shown slipping into the water could be (my personal favorite) Destroyah. I saw someone also suggest that Gigan could be the claw-thing. The giant bones appear to be Manda, in some form, since he's the only Godzilla kaiju that would have a rib cage like that.
I'm really excited for this, even if it's terrible Bryan Cranston chewing all that scenery and the eye candy will be amazing. I also like that they've kept some elements of the original, with an older scientist and his protege coming together, and what appears to be the surveying of a wrecked pacific island town.
Do you think having multiple monsters may diminish the symbolic effect of Godzilla? It looks from the tone of the trailer like they're trying to go the allegory-and-actual-meaning route in contrast to Pacific Rim's popcorn-movie route.

I wouldn't mind 2-3 other Kaijus in the movie besides king G. It would be an awkward movie if it was just Godzilla vs humans, his size and power seems a little too op against humans. They even tried nuking him and failed as stated in the trailer

D'oh! I can't believe I forgot that thing existed. Thank you.

From what I've read elsewhere, there are at least two confirmed monsters. One is supposed to be original.
The wing-tip thing definitely reminded me of Rodan, though there's also supposed to be a moth monster that is not Mothra, so maybe it's that monster's leg? In any case, there is definitely a flying monster, and it seems to enjoy dropping fighter planes into the ocean.
Also supposed to be a number of centipede/bug type monsters. But I don't think they're counted among the actual monsters; it would be underwhelming otherwise I think.
Either Gigan or Destroyah would be great. Both of them, if memory serves, are very large kaiju that serve as a match to Godzilla. If this movie does end up being sort of "Godzilla is a genuine force of nature who is neither good nor evil", then him fighting and beating back another kaiju of his caliber would be a good way to at least show that, I think. Though it might get corny if not done well.

I think it really depends on the spin that they plan on putting to the film. In the original 1954 version, any additional monsters would have weakened the point. The movie meant to have Godzilla act as an allegory to nuclear weapons, and that ultimately man is its own worst enemy. Not only did their nuclear weapons wake and mutate Godzilla into a monster, it can only then can be killed only by utilizing an equally terrifying weapon (Seriously, did any other child freak out when they saw the oxygen destroyer turn all those fish into skeletons? Because I did).
This movie seems to be a continuation of the "man is its own worst enemy" type of theme. Watanabe clearly states that "we" (dunno who that refers to yet) woke Godzilla. It really depends on how the other monsters are fit into this though. If they exist merely to serve as Godzilla's punching bags, then it would be silly. But if they are all part of some event that humanity caused, then it wouldn't be that bad. Godzilla still serves as the titular character because it is the greatest monster of them all.
I really cannot wait for May. I really wish this movie is not a let-down. That would be... depressing.
It would be an awkward movie if it was just Godzilla vs humans, his size and power seems a little too op against humans.
That's the point. Classic, serious Godzilla is about mankind feeling powerless and learning humility. A theme that seems very much in evidence in this trailer.

First off, thread derailment, Pacific Rim is a terrible film. There, I said it.
On topic, am I the only person in the world who cares about who the director is on any given film? Gareth Evans directed this Godzilla and he made one of my favorite low budget films of at least the last couple decades; Monsters. I cannot imagine him making a film that ignores allegory in favor of popcorn BS (Pacific Rim). I cannot imagine him directing a film like Cloverfield and I know damn well he's not going to make a film like Roland Emmerich. And, yes, I can make that assertion after watching just one film.
I was excited for this when he was announced as director and everything they've released has only excited me more. Seeing this in the theater on opening weekend!
Oh, god, he's the Monsters guy? Huge disappointment. You're right that the film was nothing like Pacific Rim or Cloverfield, but its ambitions vastly outstripped its execution.

But none of the crap in the 1998 film.
First official trailer.
I'm now getting mixed feelings for this film.
P.S. I have no idea how to embed.
Seeing the trailer, I now want that to happen.
I'm so hyped for this movie.
