I'm a PS2/PC man, but I agree the PS2 controller kinda sucks. My problem is that there are LOTS of PS2 only (or at least, non-Xbox) games I want to play, but Halo(2) and DoA Beach Volleyball (for... personal use) are the only games I'd ever ever consider buying!
PS2 has the FF series, Red Faction, GTA, LotR, etc.
The PC is just perfect, however, the perfect shooter controller, easy net access, etc.
Can we try and keep this thread rid of fanboy postings as much as possible? i.e. support your reasons
Personally, I like Gamecube. I think Nintendo is the most innotive competitor in the games market right now (Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat - LoZ: Four Swords Adventures) but we'll see.
I've just completed 'The Minish Cap' for GBA and was wondering what game to buy next. If my dad gets me a GBA and Gamecube connection cable pretty soon I'll buy LoZ: Four Swords Adventures but otherwise, I'll get it for my birthday. I'm also thinking of getting Metal Slug Advance and Super Mario Pinball. Are they any good?
I agree that PS2 and Xbox have good games but they just don't seem to appeal to me. I admit that GTA is fun but it MUST get boring after a while. I'm also jealous a bit of all you Xbox owners as you'l get Conker: Live and Reloaded.
Anyway, it's very likely that without Nintendo, Sony would have had trouble getting the Playstation made.
I have given my opinion :badger:

Now i agree with you their. The ps2 has many games, good games, but i personally find the graphics blocky / choppy, and i hate the controller.
The pc on the other hand is... perfect. The controller can be anything. Also graphics can be better, and faster.
So my pick listing for best consoles are:
1: Xbox: Supreme graphics, amazing playability, great controller. A bit hefty tho.
2: Pc: Your options are ENDLESS....
3: Gamecube: More childish games (nintendo, obv:badger:) half decent controller, good graphics
4: Ps1/2: I hate the controller. It feels very bad in your hands, and hard to acess the plain buttons. The graphics on the newer games are exeptional, and as some very good games.
can you guys describe why you hat the ps2 controller so much because i happen to love it and was just wondering what you guys saw wrong with it?
First off, I was never a fan of the dual joystick controllers, but then on the PS2 incarnation they are too far apart (making gameplay uncomfortable), they're cheaply made (you start getting those N64-esque plastic shavings if you are any kind of a hardcore gamer), and other than the trigger buttons which are nice, the shape buttons are difficult to reach mid-game, and the control pad is impossible.
Wow, I'm surprised at all the GC support. I myself had one since release day until this past November when I sold it. I wasn't getting as much play out of it anymore.
No, I've returned to where I started back in oh, say, 94 with BBS games such as LORD, Lunatix, and other favourites. I moved on to Civilization (the original was really great) and kept playing the high-profile games (anyone remember Transport Tycoon? WAY better than these cruddy NEW tycoon games) untill about 99. I kind of quit after Age of Kings, although I did play Diablo 2 religiously for some time, until my computer broke. I stuck with N64 and GC for that era, but my PC gaming days have returned.
My CONSOLE order is prolly GC, PS2, then XBOX.
GC- Fun games, good games, in depth games, some really freaky ones (including my favourite game of the present-day consoles, Eternal Darkness). I love the controller, and really, if I want online play, I use my PC. I am really sad that there was none, especially for some games (such as Gauntlet. Yes, cruddy game, but fun). Thats it's biggest draw back, actually. Anyway, the GC actually has about the same specs as the XBOX as far as graphics and sound go (I was really into the statistics when the consoles were being hyped up. Believe me, they're basically the same). But on this it's entirely opinion - I preffered the GC due to my game prefference.
PS2 - Well, this thing has every game immaginable. Almost. Square Enix has really made the playstation, and playstation 2, live. Which isn't a bad thing, by any means. Online play is decent, and in my opinion, the best of the three, but that isn't saying much. You could say that XBOX's online is better, and you would be right from some perspectives. I just don't like being tied to a fee. Still, it's one all encompassing fee, which is good. Anyway, back to the PS2, the graphics aren't great, but developers have found ways to push it so that you really don't notice the difference to the other two contenders most of the time. PS2 really does well from its vast library though.
XBOX - Well, Microsoft, you had an interesting first run. Seeing as they're new to this, they did really well. Still, with VERY few exclusives, they're only draws were technical. I personally HATE the controller, but thats up to opinion. Anyway, the graphical specs are obviously quite impressive, but are the same to the Gamecube, statistically. Convenient online play, build in hard-drive, and basically ONE killer hit made this system run. I like it the least, but I like it anyway.
I like my new toy I got in November, though. The Nintendo DS is my handheld of choice right now. I only have one game for it (and there are only 7 in north america), but it will hold me over untill March, by which time the library will have increased to just over 20. At this time, FF: Chrystal Chronicals will come out, and my brother and I (he owns a DS, too) will have some interesting co-op times.
The PSP is beautiful. What can I say. It's not for me. Battery life issues are one major concern, and basically the only one. Still, I like the second screen, and the touch screen, and the built-in mic in the DS.
PC ... such an uber-engine. I'm hooked on KOTOR (the original) right now, as I just bought it for myself during Christmas break.
I don't know, I like the video game industry right now. I'm no fanboy, but I really do preffer Nintendo, over all, right now. Who knows what the future will hold for me.
Yeah but every Resident Evil game has been a Nintendo only game.
ummm where have you been for the past decade? RE has mainly been on the PS1, PS2 and PC. only a few years back did RE come over to the cube. and to Qwerty sure there are some M rated games for the GC but not nearly as many as the PS2 and X-box have, and while TOS has some foul language compare it to some of T rated games on other systems(such as FF7).
yes but TOS doesn't have a character who gets a sword through their torso or something like that. and Nintendo doesn't release that many M rated games because they're are a family company, after all their first console in Japan was called Famicom which was short for Family Computer. and BTW gerg M stands for Mature, and T stands for Teen
M and T are "Mature" and "Teen". Don't tell me Nintendo focus' on the content of the game as opposed to violence. Besides SMB and SMBM, I haven't seen a single 'quality' non-ported game, and those are filled with violence.
Nintendo brought us "Banjo Kazooie", "Banjo Tooie", "Donkey Kong 64", all of which are essentially identical platformers, with no story and crappy gameplay. Nintendo simply is a little kids machine. Not because they don't have sex or violence, but because they are.
you will die now for that j/k. tetris is one of the best games ever hell Nintendo used tetris as the launch title for the Game Boy. and people still play it today. Hail Tetris!
Strictly consoles PS2 and Xbox are about even, with PS2 having more and some better games, and Xbox greatly surpassing the ps2 in graphics, and some new xbox games threaten to overtake even the power that is gta3.
as for just palying games, computers are best all the way, i will never buy a console system, as computers have more uses than just gaming, and the ability to mod games is just so fun.
Ans Stax, why are you talking about the N64? We live in Gamecube time now.
Because Gamecube is nothing but a sad ressusitation of the N64 with slightly better graphics capabilities, wasted on the same dreary Nintendo game stock.

Besides which, those three games you mentioned weren't even made by Nintendo, but by Rare (which is with Microsoft now). And even if those games didn't have a story (which they most certainly did, I played them all) who the hell would play platformers for their story? Heck, the Mario series, arguably the best platformers ever, never amounted to more than "the princess is kidnapped, find her."

I am a PS2 man. I will say that right now, it is the only one I own. Gamecube is also an excellent choice, and I keep wondering if I made the correct decision... anyway. This is why those two are the best, IMHO:
Good exclusive, non-PC games for the systems:
PS2: MGS3, the Jak and Daxter games, Ratchet and Clank games, the Final Fantasies
Gamecube: Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, SSBM, Double Dash.
XBox: Halo 2.
Out of the current genre of consoles, I am a PS2 man - the sheer number and diversity of their games far outweighs the slightly prettier graphics you get with some of the other systems.
To be perfectly honest though - my heart has never left the SNES and Genesis era, I am yet to see a game that rivals the sheer amount of enjoyment you would get out of sitting down to a game of Lufia 2, battling through all 99 levels of the Ancient Dungeon, wandering around levelling like mad so you could beat down Gades and the other Sinistrals, and then go through the game on Replay and Gift modes. The sheer level of gameplay in the elder generation of console games is simply amazing when compared to what we are forced to accept these days.
I have all three now, just got Xbox for Xmas.:) I'll say that each has their own good points, I cant really compare hardware, since thats nothing to me, I just have eventually gotten all of them because there are exclusive games for each platform that I want. Now if they were all to band together somehow, and make one console I would be happy. Never happening though.
