One of my friends claims that the reason why Pikkon was able to use Namekian in Score Z was because he believed that he was an ancient Namekian yet Toei and Akira Toriyama never fully disclosed the issue since he's considered non-canon. The designers behind Fan Z decided to put the debate to rest by not allowing Pikkon to use Namekian which upset my friend who was wanting to run him in Namekian.

I'm pretty pleased with FanZ so far. Most of the cards are good but not great and support each style or the Awakening masteries. There are some very strong cards and the MPs all seem pretty good. I wouldn't say anything is really broken or anything. The card images are nice too.

So Red Trailing Blast and Premiere Set Gohan Level 4 got nerfed with Blue Terror being added to the Frozen List.
Red Trailing Blast (Movie Collection U96, Perfection P9) - This card gains, as parenthetical text, (If the highest power level on your MP's Level 4 is more than 500,000 and this card would attach to your MP, banish it instead.)
Gohan, Armored (Premiere S12) - Treat this card as If it reads: (Constant Power): Your Styled attacks deal +3 life cards of damage. (Instant Power): When one of your effects raises your anger, you may shuffle 1 card with "anger" in the text box from your discard pile into your Life Deck.
Explanation behind rule changes:
Gohan, Armored – With the unfreezing of Namekian Knowledge Mastery, the unintended loop on Gohan’s Premiere Level 4 is unbalanced and too strong for the game. We have clarified his shuffle trigger to an instant power, making it effectively once per combat. This will prevent abuse, especially when combined with his Fan Z levels.
Red Trailing Blast – This card was being abused with certain personalities and Unleashed. It can still be taken advantage of, but only as an ‘underdog’ card now.
Blue Terror – This card creates an unfair advantage for Blue Style, and when combined with Blue Rebuke from Awakening, creates excessive actions and card selections.
Updates to cards in Celestial Tournament:
Puzzler – Gains “Banish After Use”.
Afterimage Technique – New text.
Frieza’s Arrogance – The ability now ‘plays’ the ally instead of ‘places it into play’.
Red Reverse – You may now only have 1 copy of “Red Reverse” attached.
Saiyan Tactics – You may not search for “Saiyan Tactics” with its effect.

Bardock and Chilled are officially confirmed for the next Virtual Set release of FanZ scheduled to be released on July 1st, 2017:
Legends consists of a 45-card set pulling from the popular Bardock specials, as well as a subset called Reflections that will bring a MP stack for a character never before playable in Panini’s Dragon Ball Z game! Reflections will also bring additional support for characters that aren’t prominent in the current sagas covered by the game’s regular releases.
There will be 2 new MP’s in Legends – Bardock and Chilled. They will each receive 2 powerful named cards, so expect them to make their place known in the post-Legends meta! There will also be 2 new Legacy MP levels for older personalities, and 4 new Ally cards.

So one of my friends recently went to the North Kai Event for Fan Z at Xtreme Games in Lindenhurst, Illinois running Orange Retribution Pikkon while causing 4 out of 5 opponents to drop out of the tournament just by countering Unleashed. Namekian Restored Future Gohan ended up winning while Saiyan Empowered Broly came in 2nd with Orange Retribution Cooler coming in 3rd.
Some of my friends I've talked to said they had no interest in Fan Z after what Panini did to sell themselves out while some still have an interest in it while I'm in the process of working on a Red Ascension Frieza deck before I start working on a non-Fan Z deck If I ever have time to get around to building it with all the current projects I have going on right now.

The couple guys I regularly play with like Fan Z so we've basically incorporated it in all our decks. Nobody around here has suggested a tournament yet, but our last ARG still got 16 people so it's not unreasonable, even though some people immediately quit and boxed up their cards when the cancellation was announced.
My first Fan Z deck was Restored Gohan physical beatdown. It's fun but not nearly as good as the dball/ally Gohan builds. They have such amazing attrition.
I also made Pikkon Black Conflict, but I haven't had a chance to test it out yet. I never made a black deck for Pan Z so this is my first attempt at the style. It will be interesting to see if it can keep up with the more established decks of the forum.
My small group still has essentially the same interest level as always. I figure that will continue as long as the Fan Z guys continue to release sets. I don't see any reason to stop playing, it's not like I'm supporting Panini anymore since I would never buy any more product.

So around late December last year I borrowed cards from my friend Ben Mason for a Red Ascension Piccolo deck that I was wanting to playtest (shortly before Panini broke the news about the game getting discontinued from their corporate buyout with Bandai Namco) which consisted of a Non-Rainbow Prism Premiere Set Piccolo MP stack 1-4 with a playset of Non-Foil Piccolo's Weighted Clothing's that were signed by Larry Kenney the voice actor of Lion-O from the original Thundercats cartoon series which I ended up forgetting to return to Ben since he'd been busy with work so I ended up having to wait 5 months to return the cards back to him with my other friend Bryce Evans claiming that the cards were his when it just so turned out that it was originally Dustin Mahwin's since he was the one who got the cards signed though I haven't really heard from him since he moved to St. Louis before the game died.
Ben ended up gaining possession of the Piccolo cards from Dustin when he traded him a Villainous Energy Sphere from Premiere Set when it was still around $85-100+ a piece during the first DBZ Regional we went to at Collector's Cache in Overland Park, Kansas. At one point the Piccolo cards were Bryce's then Dustin managed to get the cards from him for reasons which I don't know about since I wasn't there when the incident occurred which later they came under the ownership of Ben who I borrowed the cards from when just recently Bryce warned me not to return the cards back to Ben as they haven't spoken to each other in months to reconcile their differences with one another. So what ended up happening is that I ended up becoming the victim of circumstance to a situation that wasn't even my fault to begin with all because I wanted to playtest a deck that I was eager to try out at the time.
Having felt guilty for my decision to return the cards to Ben I felt that I owe Bryce an apology for what I did since If I ended up returning the cards to the wrong person then I'd only have myself to blame yet I'd feel bad for not telling him knowing that he'd get pissed at me for what I did when not telling him anything at all would only delay the problem further and since Ben still holds a grudge against Bryce for something that's completely out of my control there's nothing much I can do to help my two friends reconcile their differences with each other. I was planning on talking to Ben about it however he's been busy with work and hasn't shown up at my LGS's for sometime now and If I ended up calling him on the phone he'd probably think something suspicious might be going on or something. I already talked to my friend Nathan about it and he knows for a FACT that I did the right thing as I hope I don't end up getting sued in court over this.

Sounds like a pain in the ass, but it's such a minor amount of money I wouldn't think legal action is necessary. Maybe they'll just cool off if they get some time.
In DBZ news, Dollar Tree stores started getting full 12 card packs of Panini product for $1. They have Movie Collection forward. My buddy found some at his local store and bought the whole display box they had for $56. Got some good foils, a Trunks DR, and an I'll Dig Your Grave out of them. Pretty solid value.

Orange Retribution Mastery (Awakening S10, Awakening DR10) - Treat this card as if it also reads, "(You cannot activate the Power of a Drill with the same name as a Drill you have already activated this turn.)"
Orange Checkup Drill (Awakening C32) - This card gains the parenthetical text, "Limit 1 per deck."
Orange Meditation (Celestial Tournament C18) - This card gains the parenthetical text, "Banish after use."
Orange Bicycle Kick (Celestial Tournament C19) - This card gains the parenthetical text, "Banish after use."
King Cold, Caught Off Guard (Celestial Tournament U40) - Treat this card as if it's parenthetical text reads, "(If your MP is Chilled, Cooler, or Frieza, this card is considered Named and you may use this POWER regardless of your MP's power stage.)"
Orange Grimace (Legends C18) - Treat this card as if it reads, "Shield: Stops an energy attack. You may raise your anger 1 level. Your AT damage is considered to be 4 for your Styled attacks this combat."
Namekian Malicious Intent (Legends U11) - Treat this card as if it reads, "(Villains only. Limit 1 per deck.) Instant POWER: Use when entering combat. Rejuvenate 1. If the highest power level on your MP's Level 4 is 500,000 or less, you may search your Life Deck for a Dragon Ball and play it. (Banish after use.)
Legacy Bonus -
Fan Z will be accommodating the Legacy Bonus introduced in the final Panini Z CRD. However, there will be some additional rules and restrictions in order to maintain balance.
These MP's may be paired with Mastery cards on the Frozen List:
Black Devious Mastery - Krillin, Frieza, Piccolo, Captain Ginyu, Vegeta (Villain alignment only), Nail, Nappa, Raditz, Tenshinhan, Turles, Lord Slug, Garlic Jr., Dr. Wheelo, Android #16, Android #17, Android #18, Android #19, Mercenary Tao, Hercule, and Cell Jr.
Red Enraged Mastery - Krillin, Frieza, Piccolo, Captain Ginyu, Vegeta (Villain alignment only), Nail, Nappa, Raditz, Tenshinhan, Turles, Lord Slug, Garlic Jr., Dr. Wheelo, Android #16, Android #17, Android #18, Android #19, Mercenary Tao, Cell, and Cell Jr.
If you choose to use the Legacy Bonus, you MAY NOT include in your deck or MP stack any cards from Celestial Tournament, Legends, or any future Fan Z release.
If you choose to use the Legacy Bonus, the following Deck Construction Rules will apply:
The following cards gain "Limit 1 Per Deck"
Black Smoothness Drill (Premiere S96, Vengeance P1)
Black Memories (Awakening R101)
Black Strength Display (Awakening R104)
Assisted Kamehameha (Awakening UR142)
Red Flourish (Awakening U94)
Red Driving Knee (Awakening C41)
Unleashed (Vengeance UR142)
Drills now have "Memory" meaning that the Powers of Drills can only be used once per turn, regardless of them leaving play and re-entering play. Styled Drills may not be used again even if another copy of the card enters play in place of a copy that has already been used. For example:
Player A uses "Orange Possession Drill"
Player B destroys "Orange Possession Drill" with a card effect.
Player A uses an effect to search his/her Life Deck for another copy of "Orange Possession Drill"
Player B passes their action.
Player A cannot use the POWER of the new "Orange Possession Drill", since that Drill was already used this combat.
Addition to the Non-Visible Game Zone Clause (highlighted in Red):
Non-visible game zones: Whenever a card moves to a non-visible game zone (such as a player’s hand or Life Deck), it ceases to resolve any remaining sentences/effects. Similarly, you would cancel any referential floating effects that target a card that has moved into a non-visible game zone.
However, effects or parenthetical text that specifically reference leaving play/changing zones in any way (such as Kami - Guardian, Namekian Knee Block, Tenshinhan’s Preparation, Cell Jr - Escaping, etc.) still carry out their text.
Example - You discard Blue Lifting Drill to the effect of Piccolo - Combat Stance. Since Blue Lifting Drill has moved to a non-visible game zone (your Life Deck) while Rejuvenating from Piccolo's effect, it ceases to resolve any remaining effects (and thus would not place itself into play).
Example - You use Orange Nudge to stop an attack, and its immediate effect destroys one of your Drills and places it in your discard pile. At the end of combat, that copy of the destroyed Drill would be placed into play due to Orange Nudge's floating effect. However, if that copy of the destroyed Drill had moved into a non-visible zone (such as your hand), you would cancel the referential floating effects of Orange Nudge (and thus the destroyed Drill would not be placed into play).
Example - Your Kami - Guardian is shuffled into your Life Deck by a card effect. Even though he is moving to a hidden zone, Kami’s “when leaving play” effect still allows you to search for a Dragon Ball.

I'm glad that the final Panini CDR gave people some access to Devious and Enraged, not because they are healthy for the game but mostly because it would be really lame to leave them banned forever. Also, if they would have remained frozen on the Panini list they would have remained frozen by FanZ.
Ultimately PanZ play will be very limited moving forward and FanZ players will slowly but surely evolve beyond Devious and Enraged decks (particularly with new masteries being confirmed in FanZ set 10).
Ironically I'm probably playing this game more now that I ever have.
There's a lot of activity on the RetoDBZCCG Facebook page and lots of people still play on the OCTGN online gaming platform. If anyone stumbles on this thread and is interested in OCTGN image packs for FanZ feel free to PM me.

It's stupid they allowed Krillin to use Black Devious again given how broken the deck was though I'm kinda glad Hercule's not able to use Red Enraged due to how busted he was with that Mastery compared to Black Devious where he's surprisingly good. I got a game in last weekend against Black Devious Hercule with Red Ascension Frieza and lost within the 1st or 2nd combat once he got to Level 4 using Clash of Wills instead of Unleashed, it was basically just Dynamite Kick after Dynamite Kick with the occasional Sinister Choke here and there.
I'm only able to play FanZ once a week now since most of my other friends have either quit or moved onto other Trading Card Games / Collectible Card Games though I did end up getting into an argument with a friend of mine who got really pissed at me over Bandai's new game based on Dragon Ball Super because I refused to acknowledge it based on the gameplay mechanics and my disappointment toward the anime series when I was too in love with how it was handled by Panini before their old bad habits as Score got in the way of things again.
My friend explained to me that he was having some anxiety issues lately and told me the next day on Saturday last weekend that I caught him at a bad time e-mailing him last week while he was getting trolled by someone online though I think it's deeper than that. He's become more fed up with Trading Card Games / Collectible Card Games in general due to massive power creep issues and how expensive the hobby is to keep up by wanting to move on to Living Card Games like Star Wars and the new L5R reboot by Fantasy Flight Games.
He asked me why I continue to play Trading Card Games / Collectible Card Games If the companies and game developers who run these games keep screwing us over every time by discontinuing them when the problem is that they usually don't have the kind of R&D and Organized Play to keep these games going on an everyday basis compared to designing and developing a Living Card Game where everything is there to build without having to spend a fortune just to have fun which is fine don't get me wrong it's just that I've been so used to the Trading Card Game / Collectible Card Game business model that it's hard for me to let go.
I get where he's coming from Trading Card Games / Collectible Card Games are a money pit because that's just how the business model works and whoever spends the most money on their decks usually supersedes both luck and skill. I still believe that depending on how well a game is designed that each player should be given an equal or fair shot at winning instead of money becoming too much of a factor where I think the main frustration comes from trying to keep up with all these Trading Card Games / Collectible Card Games at once when it can become too much to handle.

I only picked up this version of the game because a good friend of mine was playing it regularly and the tournament scene was strong. Even though I was too busy to go to events I still enjoy it and think that overall it was an improvement over the Score versions. I'm not a huge DBZ fan like my friend so I was mostly interested in the Panini game for the nostalgia at first (but eventually came around on the positive qualities of the game).
I like FanZ and OCTGN allows me to play a little more than I would otherwise. Since I was never a big tournament player I'm still able to play the game just as much as I used to. FanZ helps keep the game from getting stale, and the Awakening meta was terribly stale thanks to Goku.
The demos I've seen of Dragon Ball Super do not interest me at all. It's definitely a game designed to cash in on the show and appeal to younger players with simple rules. Nothing wrong with that but I'm not interested.
MetaX is interesting and I'm sure the game will do OK for Panini, but I'm not really a comics fan and nobody I know around here is interested in the game. No to mention I don't really feel like supporting Panini anymore.
With more and more digital card games coming out lately I don't see myself every picking up another paper TCG/CCG - like you said they're just a money pit no matter what.

My friends actually talked me into it at my LGS back in 2014 when we got our first shipment of Starters and Boosters of Premiere Set with a sense of regret that it would end up just like Kaijudo and many other TCG/CCG's that got discontinued but for the most part at least it didn't do as poorly as Re-Z did in 2005 where they took away too much of the original gameplay mechanics from the original Score version from 2000 up until they discontinued the game with GT after Lost Episodes Saga which was a shame since it was the first and last Sealed/Booster Draft Event for the game that I ever attended before it was discontinued during it's "hiatus" period.
One of my friends at my locals only managed to get into Panini Z solely because of the TFS parody as he's one of the few people I know who never watched the original Ocean Group/Pioneer Dub of DBZ including the one by FUNimation from Cartoon Network's Toonami TV Broadcast before they ruined it with Kai because fans hate long dragged out episodes I guess. I remember when DBZ was hugely popular during my years at Junior High where one of my friends in Art class wanted to get into the Manga Industry by continuing where the franchise left off with gossip about Dragon Ball AF which turned out to be an April Fool's joke until Dragon Ball Super was released 20 years later.
I like FanZ and OCTGN allows me to play a little more than I would otherwise. Since I was never a big tournament player I'm still able to play the game just as much as I used to. FanZ helps keep the game from getting stale, and the Awakening meta was terribly stale thanks to Goku.
Yeah Set 10 of Fan Z covers the beginning of Buu Saga where it's already been confirmed that we're getting a new set of Masteries and more MP's to build decks around with Gohan as the Great Saiyaman, Videl, Android #18 (Hero alignment), Dabura, Babidi, and Spopovich though I'm worried about the massive power creep that will set in once the game catches up to Dragon Ball Super since we all know how bad it got in Dragon Ball GT with the Expanded format before it ultimately ended with Lost Episodes Saga back in 2005-2006.
MetaX is interesting and I'm sure the game will do OK for Panini, but I'm not really a comics fan and nobody I know around here is interested in the game. No to mention I don't really feel like supporting Panini anymore.
We already had a successful Comics TCG/CCG with Marvel / DC Vs. System a decade ago which ultimately flopped because Upper Deck screwed up on their prize support as far as I recall before partnering up with Blizzard Entertainment for World of Warcraft TCG only for Blizzard to replace Upper Deck with Cryptozoic Games which later became Hearthstone formerly known as "Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft". Having played both TCG/CCG's I enjoyed Vs. System the most with the final expansion for the game being Hellboy though they could've expanded on other licenses like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Ghostbusters or even Power Rangers and Thundercats.
Aik Tongtharadol of Panini and Score apparently wanted to cash in on the success of Marvel / DC Vs. System with MetaX since he used to play the game competitively after they sold the Dragon Ball license back to Bandai who ironically only has access to the DC license where as Upper Deck still has the Marvel license for their Vs. System LCG. Ironically enough Upper Deck's second attempt at reviving Marvel / DC Vs. System as an LCG backfired since they lost the DC license from another company they cut ties with while they were probably getting hammered by federal lawsuits during their time with Konami and Yu-Gi-Oh! which I'm unsure If it ever got resolved.
With more and more digital card games coming out lately I don't see myself every picking up another paper TCG/CCG - like you said they're just a money pit no matter what.
I'm not saying that Paper TCG/CCG's aren't worth playing anymore when they still bring about the kind of social interactions with other people at your LGS that you won't ever get to experience with Digital Card Games since they're no different from playing Video Games yet most modern gamers nowadays don't see it that way anymore unfortunately. Back when I was growing up as a gamer from the mid to late 80's through the 90's I didn't have the luxury of being able to socially game with others unless I was at a local Arcade or played on a console that encouraged multiplayer co-op like the Nintendo 64 with Goldeneye 007 with my cousins but now that we have the convenience to interact with others online to game it doesn't feel the same as interacting with them out in public to game with them which is much more rewarding.

Interest for FanZ has really waned at my locals with the Dragon Ball Super CCG getting the most attention. One of my friends recently sold all his Panini Z cards and decks while saving some for his version of Tim Batow's Fusion format which allows the use of GT cards given tweaks to the CRD to help make the format more balanced. As for me I'm still debating as to whether or not If I want to tear apart my Red Ascension Frieza deck seeing as there's only two people including myself who still play FanZ.

With no word on FanZ after Gen Con 2017, Set 10 has finally been announced containing a new set of Mastery cards for each Style including MP stacks for Dabura, East Supreme Kai, and Goten with new MP stacks for Krillin and Android #18 whose now aligned as a Hero Personality. Starting in Set 10 all Allies and Main Personalities will gain the following traits: Saiyan, Earthling, Fusion, Namekian, God, Alien, Android, and Majin.
Saiyan - Broly, Captain Ginyu – Body Change, Cell, Cell Jr., Gohan, Goku, Nappa, Paragus, Raditz, Trunks,
Turles, and Vegeta.
Earthling - Android 17, Android 18, Android 20, Baba, Bulma, Cell, Cell Jr., Chaozu, Chi Chi, Dr. Brief, Dr. Wheelo,
Gohan, Goku, Hercule, Icarus, Jimmy Firecracker, Korin, Krillin, Maron, Master Roshi, Mercenary Tao, Puar,
Oolong, Ox King, Tenshinhan, Trunks, Turtle, Yajirobe, and Yamcha.
Fusion - (All Fusion Personalities have been released in FanZ)
Namekian - Captain Ginyu – Frog, Cell, Cell Jr., Gohan, Kami, Lord Slug, Nail, and Piccolo.
God - Beerus, Kami, Goku - Super Saiyan God, Mr. Popo.
Majin - (All Majin Personalities have been released in FanZ)
The way traits work as opposed to styled cards is that any personality that has the following trait can use certain card effects containing that trait. For example, Blue Terror has now been re-coded to having God trait for it's effect meaning that If your Main Personality or any Allies you control doesn't have the God trait then those personalities won't gain the effects of that card.
Set 10 of FanZ is scheduled to be released on November 15th with previews starting on October 15th.

Seems as though FanZ is starting to pick back up again at my LGS with the Dragon Ball Super CCG being dead and my friends not wanting to get into UniVersus TCG because they're not huge fans of My Hero Academia though they might get on board If Jasco picks up Demon Slayer. Latest set for FanZ covers the Universe 6 versus Universe 7 arc in Dragon Ball Super with new Main Personalities for Hit, Cabba, and Frost with Hit's MP stack revolving around forcing your opponents to skip their next action. Remember how Saiyan Blitz Mastery worked back in GT? Hit's MP stack literally revolves around that strategy except probably not nearly as broken and no functional reprint of Saiyan Truce Card to facilitate it either.
Fusion characters in FanZ such as Vegito and Gotenks now have their own personal MP stacks so there's no longer a requirement to fuse them like in the old Score game where you needed a specific card to fuse them via Potara earrings or Fusion Dance while having one fusion partner as your MP and the other being an Ally you control which is great. Focused attacks make a return from the old Score game where they work the exact same way, getting around omni-blocks like Time Is A Warrior's Tool. We did get a new set of Dragon Balls with the Super Dragon Balls in Dragon Ball Super which ironically enough are almost identical to the Namek Dragon Balls in power level with the exception of Super Dragon Ball 7 that reads,
"(Once per game, you may play this card as an action to draw a card.) Use a critical damage effect."
There's also been a recent update to The Frozen List as mentioned in the CRD (Cards on this list may not be used in any official FanZ Tournament):

Some of my friends I've talked to said they had no interest in Fan Z after what Panini did to sell themselves out while some still have an interest in it while I'm in the process of working on a Red Ascension Frieza deck before I start working on a non-Fan Z deck If I ever have time to get around to building it with all the current projects I have going on right now.

Fan Z will be accommodating the Legacy Bonus introduced in the final Panini Z CRD. However, there will be some additional rules and restrictions in order to maintain balance.
These MP's may be paired with Mastery cards on the Frozen List:
