And idiotic. Because, clearly, a ruined economy, closed borders, alienated allies, widespread poverty, and disenfranchised women and minorities are better than chugging along with an unbalanced but operational system. Because that's how we make America great again.
That was sarcasm, if you couldn't tell.
Edit: Ya know, I've encountered a fair number of Trump's supporters at this point, and all of them argue circles about how Trump is better than the competition. You're the first to outright admit that the fact he's worse is the reason you're supporting him. Congratulations.
I am of the opinion that our system is so far gone that trying to fix it from the inside is not possible. I would rather we **** things up so badly that it REQUIRES reform than continue with the status quo, because frankly, the status quo is not acceptable and will inevitably lead us to this position over time anyway.
Don't mistake me, I don't like Trump. He's an awful human being and I have no delusions about that. But this is apparently what it will take for any sort of actual reforms to take place.
You do realize ******* things up so badly usually isn't a peaceful process right? Like we're talking about causing utter chaos and screwing over a good portion of the citizenship. Look at Syria, there's a ton of ******* up going on over there for dibs on the better fairytail. Let's say you get what you want and **** everything up because you're mad about the status quo. You'll split everyone down the middle between the people for ******* things up and the people for putting a bullet in the skulls of the people who ****ed everything up. Forget the elite, they will and are already in advantageous positions to either escape or take advantage of the situation. You will however, screw over the average guy going to work and paying rent. I already have to deal with traffic on my way to work, I don't need civil unrest because a group of people got mad about someone on food stamps or a chick with a dick peeing in the girl's bathroom. If you want such a stark change... it's going to cost blood. Most people advocating such a violent and stark change aren't even willing to spill their own blood or endure years of pain and suffering associated with revolutionary-like thinking. It's just a bunch of John Wayne posturing. The US is a nuclear and economic world power (despite the contrary belief of some), the US doesn't have the luxury to **** things up. But hey... whatever makes you feel better. It doesn't even matter because there will be no ******* up regardless of who gets elected and the status quo will be maintained. Don't believe me? Look at human history. The game has always been rigged since rocks.
I agree. We should all only play g/x decks because they are the most objectively fun and anyone who disagrees does not know the truth about EDH. Everyone should just play their decks because interaction beyond high fiving about how many land are in play is unfun and equivalent to casting Stasis while kicking puppies. I for one will never play with anyone who casts tutors, removal spells, blue cards, things I arbitrarily decide I don't like but will probably cast myself later.
I am of the opinion that our system is so far gone that trying to fix it from the inside is not possible. I would rather we **** things up so badly that it REQUIRES reform than continue with the status quo, because frankly, the status quo is not acceptable and will inevitably lead us to this position over time anyway.
I see nothing so wrong with our country that it needs to be plowed under and restarted from scratch. Sure we have problems but overall things have been getting better as time goes on. To be clear we will always have problems of one sort or another and no amount of backwards progress will solve our problems. Its this kind of apocalyptic attitude that lets wackos like Trump steal civil liberties.

It's also the kind of hate and discontent that empowered Hitler...

I'm really confused about how this revolution is supposed to go down. Like does January 20th roll around and then we all just riot? Or does Trump complete his term and then we just decide to vote for someone else next time?
Apparently there are a bunch of Republicans still insisting they're not willing to support Trump while at the same time lamenting that this election is doomed. I'll ignore the fact that these Republicans have been wrong all election to highlight the idiocy of David Brooks...
Donald Trump is epically unprepared to be president. He has no realistic policies, no advisers, no capacity to learn. His vast narcissism makes him a closed fortress. He doesn’t know what he doesn’t know and he’s uninterested in finding out. He insults the office Abraham Lincoln once occupied by running for it with less preparation than most of us would undertake to buy a sofa.
These same honchos are on one hand saying Trump is unprepared to be president while simultaneously stating that they won't support him. The ones who show a lack of capacity to learn are the ones who don't understand why Trump vaulted to the GOP nomination in the first place. Yes, he's boorish and says things not nice. But for the past 20 years these same people have been dismissing the undertone of concern for Americans. They don't get why Eric Cantor lost his job. They don't get why Bernie Sanders was a hugely popular candidate among the disaffected in the Democratic party. I acknowledge that Trump's policies and language are all over the place so have people sit down with him and help him craft a message of coherence. You can change language and tone to help soften it up. Yes Trump is stiff when he gives prepared speeches but so what?
This is the same party that for years willingly embraced "God Hates ****", Perry's family ranch is called ******head with nobody in the party blushing, and Newt Gingrich's infamous "Black people should demand jobs not foodstamps", but somehow Trump's language is unaccaptable? No, Trump is speaking about getting jobs back into this country and how the American people have been fleeced, and how DC doesn't work on behalf of the American people. Galavanting in tours of excess in the middle east and Europe doesn't put food on the plate and help pay the bills.
The ones that really get me though are the people who whine about the Supreme Court getting ruined forever while simultaneously saying they won't support Trump because he's going to appoint "liberal judges". It's a patently absurd meme that Trump would appoint liberal judges in the first place but then don't whine about the consequences of that decision to not vote for a Republican candidate. Nut up and own it. I find the behavior of the #neverTrumpers to be more childish than anything Trump has done. If these fools can support someone who hates the American poor like Mitt Romney and someone who hates the separation of church and state like Ted Cruz then they should be willing to rally around someone who supports 75% the GOP platform but says awkward things.
Apparently there are a bunch of Republicans still insisting they're not willing to support Trump while at the same time lamenting that this election is doomed.
They aren't super wrong. This election has come down to two extremely unpopular choices.
This is the same party that for years willingly embraced "God Hates ****"
I am not aware of any mainstream Republican embracing the Westboro Baptist Church. Bush Jr. even passed legislation that made it more difficult for that group to protest military funerals. I really think you are overstating exactly how offensive the Republican party is to benefit your own argument. Trump receives backlash for his bigoted comments because they are uniquely unacceptable. It is not an attitude that is or should be emulated by any politician who represents the American people.
they should be willing to rally around someone who supports 75% the GOP platform but says awkward things.
Your post simultaneously purports that Trump is different from mainstream Republicans yet shares at least three quarters of their platform. Something is off with this assertion.
These same honchos are on one hand saying Trump is unprepared to be president while simultaneously stating that they won't support him.
You seem to be implying that this is a contradiction, but isn't a candidate being unprepared to be president an awfully good reason not to support him?
But for the past 20 years these same people have been dismissing the undertone of concern for Americans. They don't get why Eric Cantor lost his job. They don't get why Bernie Sanders was a hugely popular candidate among the disaffected in the Democratic party.
This has nothing to do with Trump being unprepared. They can be totally oblivious to everything, and Trump can still be unprepared.
I acknowledge that Trump's policies and language are all over the place so have people sit down with him and help him craft a message of coherence. You can change language and tone to help soften it up. Yes Trump is stiff when he gives prepared speeches but so what?
You really think the problem is the tone of Trump's language? The problem is the content of Trump's language. He's not just being mean; he's advocating horrible policies.
This is the same party that for years willingly embraced "God Hates ****", Perry's family ranch is called ******head with nobody in the party blushing, and Newt Gingrich's infamous "Black people should demand jobs not foodstamps", but somehow Trump's language is unaccaptable?
So are you saying the Republican party ought to embrace Trump's race-baiting? How is Paul Ryan declaring that "This party does not prey on people’s prejudice" not an unequivocally good thing? Because it's preyed on people's prejudice in the past? Well, all the better that it's decided to stop, then! Your complaint here amounts to, "They've always been racist, but now they're rejecting racism just to spite a racist I like!" Can you see any problems with that?
Apparently there are a bunch of Republicans still insisting they're not willing to support Trump while at the same time lamenting that this election is doomed.
So let me see if I understand this correctly:
Trump has spent his entire campaign railing against the establishment Republicans.
Trump supporters have spent the entire campaign railing against the establishment Republicans.
Now Trump needs the support of the establishment Republicans, and they're reluctant to side with him.
Phone posting because I'm at the movie theaters. the TL DR is that trumps stances are really not all that different from what the Republican Party always espouses. Intone Trump statements are really not all that different from what the Republican Party ignores. The only major difference is the emphasis. Trump advocates bringing jobs back into this country instead of shipping them overseas and he's a pariah. The Republicans have had both parts houses of Congress and there's no jobs bill in sight. The Republican Party's plans in the Middle East have always been incoherent but trumps policies in the Middle East are somehow devastating. Trump wants to make sure that the American people are looked after first and all of a sudden he's Hitler or Mussolini or Satan. trumps languages no more or less harsh and denigrating then language used by other Republicans in the past. Trumps emphasis is not tax cuts to the 1%, control in a woman's body, or trying to redefine marriage between one man and one woman. These minor differences make trump somehow unworthy of the Republican name and Republican support. That does not make sense.
Trump cares about many of the same issues that Republicans do, but his proposed policy solutions to those issues are so colossally stupid that not even the Republicans want to sign on with them.

Because it would actually hurt the economy more than help it. Take his ludicrous idea to try to force Apple to make iPhones in America. The increase in cost of production would cause the phone prices to skyrocket, and cut significantly into Apple's profits. Apple would look for ways to cut costs, perhaps by replacing their laborers with robots. There. Now you made phones more expensive for consumers, hurt the company, took jobs away from destitute families in Asia, and still did nothing to employ more people back here in good old Murica. I would think that Trump, being a businessman, would understand this, but sadly, he's as ignorant about it as everything else he talks about.

Because killing innocents and breeding more hatred and discontent towards America, that would actually lead to an increase in terrorism and extremism, is clearly the best option.

As Tiax said, Trump is offering solutions to most of the mainstay Republican issues. It's not the questions, it the idiotic, contrived, and outright insane answers he's trying to offer.

Also enjoy your Captain America picture film.

Yes, he is looking out for Americans, specifically, the middle aged white guys who make up the majority of this support.
1. I've found that many American made products cost about the same as foreign products with the exception of clothing. Instead of just accepting the narrative that the businesses and the media have been pushing maybe you should try to actually go out and buy American products and do a comparison yourself.

I have said this before, if he had just said it once in passing I would agree that it was a slip, mistakes happen and speech can be hard. But that isn't what happened, he said it three times with distinction. It wasn't a mistake, it is what he meant to say in that moment. He went back on it later because of the backlash.

What a cheap deflection. Please explain how exactly deliberately killing civilians is a better foreign policy than -- well, than any foreign policy which does not do that.

No politician will tell you the truth that those jobs wont be back, but you sure will believe them if they tell you they can get them back. They can not and will not. Another note on immigration, it does not impact a majority of Americans. It simply does not. Why do you care about it so much?
I'm Jewish. I criticized the fascist bent of some Trump supporters got a lot of unsavory comments from Trump fans, by which I mean being told repeatedly I'd be sent to the death camp with the rest of the Jews, anti-semetic cartoons and threats, slurs, what-have-you. I also got a lot of praise for Nazi's that seemed sincere and deeply felt from them.
Like, I get it: you can make a custom-swastika map on Starcraft if you think that's funny. But you know, as somebody with dead family, I'm a little touchy on the Holocaust. The lack of instant condemnation of the KKK also raises eyebrows.
Neo-Nazi's are not a group I want to be involved with. Neither should you.
That said: if you support Trump and think Neo-Nazi's are bad (which is a depressingly low bar, IMO) I would appreciate if you could make that known.

No. No more anecdotes. You cannot start an argument with "I've found..." or "Everyone knows..." Show your evidence, or go home. For example: China made laptop America made laptop
Ignoring that, the whole point of trying to bring manufacturing back to the US is to create more jobs. That won't happen. If these companies want to keep their costs down, and still sell their wares at a "reasonable" price, they will likely switch to automating the production. That means that all Trump would have managed to do is put several thousand Asians out of work, without actually doing anything for the American workforce. Not that the Asians matter to Trump, since, you know, they're not American.
Show me proof, and I will revise my position. And I mean proof. Not anecdotes.

1. Why don't I use your links?
This type of manufacturing is already beginning to take root in the US. Elon Musk, for one, is building Tesla’s electric battery factory in Nevada, with plans to hire some 6,500 people there. In New York, Musk’s other company, SolarCity, will open another factory which will hire roughly 5,000 people across the state. And GlobalFoundries, a $5 billion semiconductor manufacturer, currently employs thousands of Americans in its plants in New York and Vermont.
All this talk about "train the people for the high tech/ skilled job, nonsense is complete garbage. Nevada is one of the least technically skilled states in the country. You wanna know what your own link fails to mention? The state of Nevada offered Elon Musk a sweetheart deal. I know because I live here.
And that's what it comes down to. "Free Trade" consists of sweetheart deals, except they are going to other nations. They're sweetheart deals that allow companies to skirt taxes and executives to line their own pockets with gold. That's why Trump's proposal is a two-step deal. Increased tariffs will force these companies overseas to compete with companies in this country. What your articles fail to mention is that these companies can only increase costs so much before people stop purchasing unnecessary accessories. Furthermore your articles also fail to take into account that once these companies are in this country they're not necessarily going to pass any of these extra costs onto the consumer. Oh and here's another thing from your own articles...
In Chinese factories, overtime is standard. While workers can only legally put in 60-hour weeks without special dispensation, a large proportion go above and beyond — which has landed Apple in hot water with activist groups.
Dang!!! If only Americans would accept human rights abuses and indentured servitude then we could compete with China! And here's the kicker...
If Apple were to build an iPhone in the US, it could add as much as $50 to the final price, analysts told Motherboard.
Yep. This actually proves my point all the more. Thanks for providing the links. We could relocate all those Chinese jobs to the U.S. and an iphone would cost a meager $50 more. Oh my no.
2. I'm genuinely confused. Are you saying call center jobs that used to be in this country were not jobs at all? Or are you genuinely suggesting that American women who worked at call centers are simply not people? Help me out.
3. You've provided the proof for me. Thanks for doing me a solid. But I can't help but noticed that you're implying that IT workers and pharmaceutical employees losing their jobs due to H-B1 visa abuse are not proof that H-B1 visa abuse exist. Once again I'd like to know why you think documented examples of people losing their jobs precisely due to policies Trump would like to stop is irrelevant to you?

Another note on immigration, it does not impact a majority of Americans. It simply does not. Why do you care about it so much?
1. I have family who followed the rules. They did what they were supposed to do. They had to wait years and they had to pay 7k. Illegal immigrants, and Mexicans in particular due to the convenience of location, simply cheat their way into this country and many of them collect welfare to boot. Some of them don't even learn the language. That's an insult. It's despicable. I have family members who would love to come into this country but they aren't going to illegally immigrate to make it happen because it's an insult. But I don't need personl experience to know that that's a deplorable situation.
2. Sanctuary cities and the fact that they exist is deplorable. I hear all the stories about "illegal immigrants engage in less crime bla bla.." That has no bearing on the fact that oftentimes when we do catch illegal immigrants we just let them go and then they commit yet more crimes. Nevermind the fact that illegally entering this country is a crime in and of itself.
3. Are you implying that if something doesn't affect a majority of people then it's not a big deal?
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
It's a poem by Pastor Martin Niemöller and that poem resides on the walls of The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Since you're a Jewish person perhaps you can understand the importance of standing up and speaking out against something that's wrong, even if it only affects a minority.

These are real valid complaints about illegal immigration. No one is saying that these problems should not be tackled in some way.
The problem comes with Trump who wants to tackle the problem in a way that is costly, ineffective, and supports a vision of Americans as xenophobes. Do not bring up the problem of illegal immigration in and of its self as a point to support Trump because the fact that he wants to deal with illegal immigration is not our issue with him. Its the methodology and the bigotry he wants to employ to solve the problem that his opponents are critical of.
Interesting points, all around. But as a Jewish person again (sorry!) I'm curious if you could address my concern above: mainly about the Alt-Right who are often self-described Neo Nazi's and their support for Trump. Do you distinguish Neo Nazis as accidental and deplorable bedfellows which could be found in any large movement? Or are you sympathetic to their causes and hatreds?

I'm sorry, I just do not get how someone can be so upset when someone breaks an unenforceable law. I would buy your argument if you advocated for a easier citizenship process, instead of worrying about the people who are breaking a law that has no bearing on whether or not your family is able to immigrate. What those illegals are doing has no bearing on your family. Your rebuttal is not compelling. It's like some people worrying about rich people, as if they are really the ones preventing you from getting rich.

It's also the kind of hate and discontent that empowered Hitler...

Your post simultaneously purports that Trump is different from mainstream Republicans yet shares at least three quarters of their platform. Something is off with this assertion.
This has nothing to do with Trump being unprepared. They can be totally oblivious to everything, and Trump can still be unprepared.
You really think the problem is the tone of Trump's language? The problem is the content of Trump's language. He's not just being mean; he's advocating horrible policies.
Mitt Romney never complained how homeless veterans are driving down property values in New York City.

Trump has spent his entire campaign railing against the establishment Republicans.
Trump supporters have spent the entire campaign railing against the establishment Republicans.
Now Trump needs the support of the establishment Republicans, and they're reluctant to side with him.
And you're confused as to why?
Also enjoy your Captain America picture film.
Yes, he is looking out for Americans, specifically, the middle aged white guys who make up the majority of this support.
As Tiax said, Trump is offering solutions to most of the mainstay Republican issues. It's not the questions, it the idiotic, contrived, and outright insane answers he's trying to offer.
"You say 'learn from history,' but that does not mean 'learn the same bull***** the people in history learned alongside phrenology and alchemy.'" - The Blinking Spirit
You mean things like not passing laws against the transgendered or enforcing the immigration laws we already have right now?
This goes back to why I asked Blinking Spirit if he ever performed extemporaneous speech. I'm willing to give Trump a pass and assume that he misspoke. He clarified later.
AND it was a much better film than Age of Ultron. Also The Ratchet and Clank movie deserves more love.
1. I've found that many American made products cost about the same as foreign products with the exception of clothing. Instead of just accepting the narrative that the businesses and the media have been pushing maybe you should try to actually go out and buy American products and do a comparison yourself.
2. He's also looking out for people who immigrated to this country legally and don't appreciate the fact that illegals are going to be allowed to cut in line and not have to pay any of the fees that legal immigrants do. He's also looking out for the young women who would like a call center job but have much fewer options because those jobs have been shipped out to the Phillipines. Were you aware that call center jobs are usually "women's work"? He's also looking out for the college students who need work but they can't find them because tech support jobs have all been shipped out to India. It's something so common that it's a joke. He's also looking out for the software developers who can't find work because those STEM jobs got replaced by H-B1 visa abuse.
This whole "middle-aged-white-guys" meme is actually more ridiculous than the Hitler comparisons.
Ahh so he did. Still a better foreign policy propoasal than Hillary's.
candidus inperti; si nil, his utere mecum.
He is actually doing something much worse than looking out for them, he is lying to them. Americans are in a global workforce and have no more right to a job than someone in India or the Philippines. No politician will tell you the truth that those jobs wont be back, but you sure will believe them if they tell you they can get them back. They can not and will not. If your position is being outsourced, you need to find a new trade. It's your responsibility to know the long-term viability of your trade. Republicans talk about the free market, and how the government is not the solution, their answer to employment, immigration, etc etc is government interference. The main source of jobs and economic success has always revolved around innovation. Want more jobs? Make it easier to innovate, then you will not give a damn about the Mexicans who are purportedly coming in and taking your job.
Another note on immigration, it does not impact a majority of Americans. It simply does not. Why do you care about it so much?
For example:
China made laptop
America made laptop
There. Proof. That wasn't so hard. Took me some five quick minutes of research. Meanwhile, here are some more articles on the subject I mentioned.
http://www.wired.com/2016/03/trump-wont-get-apple-make-iphones-shouldnt/
http://www.cnet.com/news/if-donald-trump-had-his-way-your-iphone-would-be-insanely-pricey/
http://www.businessinsider.com/why-donald-trumps-plan-to-build-iphones-in-us-wont-work-2016-3
Ignoring that, the whole point of trying to bring manufacturing back to the US is to create more jobs.
What? This has something to do with call centers now? Only the first article you linked is directly related to Trump. Nice deflection.
Show me proof, and I will revise my position. And I mean proof. Not anecdotes.

1. Why don't I use your links?
Dang!!! If only Americans would accept human rights abuses and indentured servitude then we could compete with China! And here's the kicker...
I'v actually addressed this already in my respone to glam except for this point...
It's a poem by Pastor Martin Niemöller and that poem resides on the walls of The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Since you're a Jewish person perhaps you can understand the importance of standing up and speaking out against something that's wrong, even if it only affects a minority.
