No, people object to socialism because it doesn't work.
I love this argument, socialism doesn't work, and yet China the biggest Socialist nation the world has ever known owns how much of the US? Tell me again how it doesn't work?

Depends on your definition of socialism. I certainly wouldn't classify it as such.

China was a communist state. Currently, it's an authoritarian corporatist state masquerading as a communist state. It's never really been a socialist state, and it's certainly never been a democratic socialist state.

It's a good read IMHO. He talks a lot about FDR's Economic Bill of Rights and Martin Luther King Jr. He even gets in a little dig at Hillary when says "I'm not running for president because it's my turn".
I like him because he isn't a cookie cutter politician (compared to the other candidates on both sides). This is the most fun I've had watching politics ever.

No freedom of religion. People live in constant fear of being executed. No political freedom. No freedom of assembly. Legal age of consent is thirteen. Just some of the things that does not work with China.
If you want to depict a great country in defense of socialism China is not it.
I really don't get the socialist angle in the US. Do people really want to pay double the amount of taxes for the rest of there lives just to receive a lot less efficient health care just so that the people who don't want to pay for health insurance can get better treatment?
Do you realise that with the way it works now you can pick and choose from many insurance providers all of whom provide many levels of insurance for a huge variety of prices all of which you are free to pick and choose from as you see fit. If the government provides this service it will have to come from increased tax money and there is absolutely no choice in the amount of tax you pay.
Why are some in the US so happy to give up there consumer rights. Maybe some Americans should instead of reinventing the wheel try and work on the social ills that make it so that those without cover can empower themselves and correct the inequality. That to me would be a better solution.
in my country if someone presented himself with this sort of attitude he'd be the subject of merciless sarcasm and satire, while any other candidate that appeared more 'grounded', reliable and modest would easily beat him
Oh, Trump is being thoroughly mocked by a lot of the American media. One of the problems with the Republican race is that Trump being so crazy is attracting a lot of attention (as they say, any publicity is good publicity). In order to keep up with him, other Republican nominees are also acting out in order to get some of that attention pulled away from Trump, turning the whole thing into a circus.
Trump has been polling well, but I can only imagine that's because people want to see him continue the spectacle and he won't win the nomination for the general election. If he does win the Republican primary, I suspect his Democrat opponent will win, regardless of who it is.

Um... isn't your country Greece? Between Golden Dawn and Syriza, I do not think your assessment of the Greek electorate is entirely accurate.

People with a large amount of Xenophobia, akin to Japan prior to Commodore Perry's visit.
Aside from the standard conservative, you have moderates that are probably turned off of this wave of Political correcteness, and conservatives who may still prefer the term republican, are sick of the politicians in their own party. It is the only logical reason why Trump could carry the poles for so long, and no surprise that Carson was right behind him, although currently Rubio and Cruz are right behind him in the polls.
So, the Donald is calling for the banning of all Muslims to enter the US.
He's also calling for closing the internet.
Who are the idiots supporting this clown again?
Me.
But I support him because I think a Trump presidency will never achieve anything (due to hostility from both establishment Republicans/Democrats), while simultaneously forcing the Republican Party civil war to come to a head.
I mostly just want to see the Republican party's civil war come to a head.
Finally, *Finally*, we are seeing the crash and burn of Trump's campaign. The Republican party and (finally!) Fox News have turned on him and are eating him alive over his latest comments, which to be fair are so bat***** insane even Fox News can't pretend it might be reasonable.
Question now is does he run as an independent and how many of his supporters stick with him if he does? Without the support of Fox News and/or the Republican party he's bound to lose most of his support, but he still might get 5%, which could be enough to make a difference in the election.
Second question is who becomes the new front-runner. If we're finally through with clowns like Trump and Carson, who takes over the lead? Cruz seems like a good bet though he's not much better than Trump in many ways and is way more religious fundamentalist.

Seems like Cruz and Rubio are the ones jockeying for the position right now.
I would add a third question, which is when are most candidates going to have the good sense to drop out?

I don't expect to see Trump's campaign fail from criticism from the Republicans. The man had always sparred, to put it lightly, with the Republican establishment and Fox (no one remembers him and Megyn Kelly?) Hell, a large part of his appeal to the truly right-wing IS that he fights against the Republican establishment.
I don't see Trump going away any time soon. People here still don't seem to understand why he continues to top the polls, but it's quite simple. It's lead by an all-out populist revolt primarily coming from disenfranchised conservatives. You know when you overhear a conversation between two people who go on about how the state of the country is going in the wrong direction? That's exactly the kind of voter that Trump has in spades. Up until this point it was an untapped demographic that always reluctantly voted for the Republican candidate in the general election. Trump is the first guy that's really aggressively tapped into that kind of demographic, and it turns out it's a much larger group than people think.

I genuinely expect a (rhetorical) bloodbath if Trump doesn't win the Republican nomination due to (real or imagined) political machinations by the Republican establishment.

Healthcare is not the place to argue against socialism.
The US has the most* expensive healthcare system in the world. (Both pre and post ACA, but less post). It also has the worst average healthcare outcomes of any OECD/Western nation, and it's actually worse than a lot of much crappier countries.
* welllll....2nd most of countries that had a measurable system (I think Liberia was the worst; one of the nations on the north-western rump of africa, anyway). American healthcare might be less ineffecient than North Korea, Zimbabwae and another country I forget, but none of them are countries you would describe as 'having an economy' so not really big victories.

Other people getting sick damages herd immunity by making reservoirs. Not everyone can afford personal payer healthcare so they don't go to doctors and get preventable illnesses and injuries dealt with. It's less efficient.
Also if the USA actually taxed rich people and corporations for a fair share, most of the population wouldn't notice a tax increase.
EDIT: I didn't see Verbal's post when I started typing but also that.

Hell, a large part of his appeal to the truly right-wing IS that he fights against the Republican establishment.
Even when he went after Megyn Kelly, most personalities on Fox still supported him. The big difference is that doesn't appear to be true this time. Trump has done nothing but feast on media attention, that has been his entire campaign to this point. I would not underestimate how influential that media can be when it is united against someone, and right now both left and right wing media are going after Trump. If Fox News (and other right-wing media like Rush, etc) are really done with him, then he is finished.
I genuinely expect a (rhetorical) bloodbath if Trump doesn't win the Republican nomination due to (real or imagined) political machinations by the Republican establishment.
I do too. If Trump gets a sizable chunk of delegates he will wreak havoc at the RNC and it will look ugly on TV.

Well the thing is Trump feeds off of attention from the media whether it's positive or negative. If Fox wants to turn on Trump, he won't care as long as they keep talking about him. Negative publicity is only bad if his poll numbers crash, and I don't see Trump's supporters going away any time soon.
Also I suspect that not everyone at Fox is on board with piling on Trump. The Fox analyst that got suspended for calling Obama a ***** on the air is a perfect example. That guy is almost certainly a Trump supporter.
51% of likely Republican primary voters "strongly favor" Trump's proposal to prevent Muslims from entering the country. An additional 14% "Not so strongly favor" it. Only 22% "strongly oppose" or "not so strongly oppose".
The thing is that there is no xenophobia ceiling that will make Trump unpalatable to the Republican base. The Republican establishment will try to hammer him on whatever unconscionable thing he says, and then they'll realize that most of their voters actually agree with him, and will come crawling back to apologize.
It's nothing new that a large portion of the electorate is oblivious to the Bill of Rights. This is why we have a Bill of Rights. If people were naturally inclined to follow its principles, we wouldn't need to spell them out. But what people are naturally inclined towards is freedom of their own religion, and freedom to suppress the religion of others; freedom of their own speech, and the freedom to silence the speech of others; due process for their own accused crimes, and summary punishment for the accused crimes of others. People love restrictions, just as long as they don't think those restrictions could possibly apply to them.

Jumping back in to ask how many of Hitler's policies is Trump basically copying now? I'm joking but also kind of serious, there's chat on the twitters calling him like 4/7ths* of an Adolf and I'm not sure how worried I should be.

Surging, a bunch of people supporting a complete jackass who doesn't remotely have the intelligence or the capability to hold public office in his bid for the presidency isn't a populist movement. It's just people being stupid.
I know you want there to be more to this, but there isn't anything more to it than that. Trump is not a crusader representing the interests of the common man. He's a very wealthy man who wants attention and has found a theater where he can steal the spotlight.
