A (U/B) mechanic for no set in particular, based off of this oldie:
Eerie Emanation2U
Creature — Spirit [C]
Presence 2(This creature can't be blocked unless defending player pays 2 for each creature blocking it.)
[2/2]
Midnight LuminaryBB
Creature — Vampire [U]
Haste
Presence—Pay 2 life. (This creature can't be blocked unless defending player pays 2 life for each creature blocking it.)
[2/1]
Master of Mysteries3UU
Creature — Human Wizard [U]
Presence U(This creature can't be blocked unless defending player pays U for each creature blocking it.)
[3/5]
Extravagant Boss2BB
Creature — Aetherborn Warrior [R]
When Extravagant Boss enters the battlefield, each opponent gets EE(two energy counters).
Presence E(This creature can't be blocked unless defending player pays E for each creature blocking it.)
[6/6]
I like it. Probably not an evergreen candidate (as I said in the other thread) but makes a great block-specific evasion mechanic. In, I guess, a block with a taxing theme? I wonder if that could be taken in a fun direction and not just be a tedious disaster like Prophecy was?

That's why I think it would make for a good evergreen mechanic and not a block mechanic: because who wants to play Prophecy 2?
Yeah, seems like a terrible block mechanic. I'm perfectly happy with the version that only requires generic mana costs.
I'm perfectly happy with just setting the standard cost at 2.
But I figure that if it's anything other than 1 (which is not enough), then the cost needs to be spelled out and that means that variants are OK.
I honestly am still all over the idea of making a "costs more to target it and must pay to block it" mechanic for blue-black's evergreen (which should probably have 2 as the cost for both), and changing out hexproof for something else more interactive for green-blue and just giving those colors unkeyworded hexproof variants as a way to keep their creatures around.

I like it. I may adopt it into my own designs.
Finally a good white villain quote: "So, do I ever re-evaluate my life choices? Never, because I know what I'm doing is a righteous cause."
