February has started with the release of the latest set of Magic, Gatecrash. The guilds are more than ever busy fighting one another, trying to get the upper hand over their enemy. Guild business is pretty secretive and it is not always clear who makes the decisions. Let's take a look at the guild leaders and give them a face.
Your challenge
Choose one of Ravnica's guilds and paint a picture showing the guild leader ("Parun") sitting on a throne and making decisions. Your piece must follow the following guideline:
- The Parun is sitting on a throne, wearing a crown or another symbol of power
- The background features the guild symbol
- The color palette you use must center around the two colors the guild is associated with (e.g. red/white for Boros)
Your reward
The contest winner determined by poll will be rewarded with a digital trophy above his avatar and announced on mtgsalvation home.
More information, rules and restrictions - please read carefully!
Regular rules
The work you submit must be something new you created for this contest and nothing you pulled from your portfolio.
Keep in mind your entry should be work safe, so no naked boobies or something like that
Silent submission: Do not post your work here. Instead send it by pm to both adunakhor and blackbull. All entries will be revealed when the polls are up.
Deadline for this contest is 28 February
Contest specific rules & additional information
Your parun can be an existing one or a fictive one you created
When submitting your entry, please explain which guild you chose and name the leader you painted
The guilds are Orzhov, Dimir, Gruul, Boros, Simic, Azorius, Golgari, Izzet, Rakdos, and Selesnya
This was actually what I was kind of hoping for. If I can find the time to do a piece justice, I'll be taking this on. Are we allowed to choose from past Paruns, or only the Paruns from RTR?

Glad you like it. We had some nice entries for the last contest and thought it is time to step things up a bit.
About your question: You can take any parun, existing or past. You can even create your own parun if you like, as long as your piece follows the guideline mentioned in the contest challenge.

The OP mentions "paint"- are we required to physically paint the entry?
Also (sorry for my noobishness), are digital or digitally-modified entries allowed in these contests (unless paint is required for this one of course) or are those limited to the photoshop contests?

Modifying a previous image or conjunct of them is left to the Photoshop Contest (wich will be up sometime today.) In the Artwork Contest, we expect entrants to create a new piece from scratch, and there aren't restrictions about the media (it could be phisical and/or digital.)
This is my first contest attempt. I didnt see in the rules anywhere the deadline time. Is it Feb 28th by 11:59pm? or is it due Feb 28th like by 11:59pm Feb-27th?

Sure. You can use any form of media, including pencil crayons and markers.
Using paint might be more helpful to cope with the restrictions concerning the color palette, but that's it.
