Hey, this is the guy who was doing the alters for twinner. I've posted on here once or twice from other accounts in the past, and have been reading this thread since back when it was first made. I'll be posting my alters on this account regularly from now on instead of just letting twinner post all my alters, lol.
To those who liked my alters: thanks. And to those who don't like my signature: I'm not changing it ;P
Here are 2 new ones from earlier:
Butcher of Malakir:
Heartless Summoning:
Also wanted to note that the kind of lame looking brown/gold lines on a lot of the alters is actually gold paint (citadel shining gold paint, to be specific) which looks horrid in scans, but is incredibly shiny and vibrant in real life, much like actual gilding.

I have been doing alters for a little over a month, I have posted on a few other forums and I am always looking for feedback and to see what people think. I love checking out what other artists are doing as well as it gets me hyped to keep working. The following are some of my alters, hope you like!
The mystifying maze is just for my own EDH deck.
The Arid Mesa Guru style is for commission.

I like how well you matched the texture on the maze to the original. A lot of people focus on colour only and not textures, so it's nice to see.
For the guru land, you may want to alter it so that half the picture is morning and the other half is evening, as the idea behind the whole guru thing is mapping the sun/moon locations throughout the day. It's easy to do this by doing a wash over one half with a watered down cold colour like blue/white/green, and the other half with a warm yellow/red/orange, and then picking out the highlights and re-adding any shadows that got dulled by the wash. You should be able to do that without even needing to redo the chart etc. The colour bar in the bottom corner of the official guru lands is also much easier than it looks to paint in with a small brush so you might also want to consider that. It does look fine even without all that though, just some suggestions.

Bigup, I think oh might be my favorite alterist on the site right now. Tell me, how do you envision or conceptualize you alters? In particular, the consecrated sphinx from this batch or others that you have done in a similar style.
Got a few commissions and also have some work going up in a restaurant in October that I am trying to get some stuff together for. Here is one of my first pieces for the show:
Apparently I have to say this is based on the movie The Predator, as if it wasn't obvious or anything.

Thanks Chris for the feedback, the texture was actually pretty easy to bring into the card, just a little time consuming to do it in thin enough layers to make the card really smooth. Also I appreciate the input on the coloration, I actually attempted to do the 50% card hue shift but the wash drown out the card a bit too much (even though it was a super thin wash) . I made the decision quickly to reverse it while the wash was still wet and clean it up. I think I will stick with what I have for now and practice some more on my spare fetch(s) when time permits but I do appreciate the comment. I have seen some really awesome guru style alters done before and it seems to be a popular trend. I have seen guru duals which were awesome but never a set of full set of fetch lands and that is soon to be coming.

I would suggest cleaning up your lines a bit before attempting a playset. The cleanliness and precision of the Guru lands seem quite distant from what's represented on your Mesa alter. The addition of the colored boxes and color shifts seem important as well.
Here is my latest commission, and it had a lot of thought put into it by the commissioner. These are all the EDH generals of his friends, and they are being given to them as gifts at his wedding party. My personal favorite is the Richard Garfield, PhD. It has had the name changed to his friend that recently graduated from a PhD program, as well as painting his portrait on and adding the art of Mahamoti Djinn (his favorite card).
All of the sources are just his friend's faces, with the helmet on his friend's daughter inspired by Empiryal Plate and the Superman chest referenced from here.
