@ Klug - Your alters were some of my favorites. I hope you don't stop posting, but I will def make more stops at your blog.
I agree that a blanket warning to all artists would have been a favored alternative to attacking Klug directly, as it is well known many artists here recreate/integrate other artists work onto cards (especially comic based works, that gambit image is a well known Yardin piece).
You mean like when I was modded in here directly & made a forum announcement that the rules were being updated, & that I would be enforcing them more strictly?
Or the post in modtext that I made in here saying the same thing?
Perhaps I should have pm'd everyone who posts in here, or might post?
Further discussion on this topic is welcome on my helpdesk.
I have clarified the artwork rules to expressly & directly address plagiarism & works based on another artist's work.
@Masamune; You should alter way more than you do. But then again the day you do post something i'll be like WOOOOOOW. But i'd like to be WOWed more often and you're one of the few alterers who do that on this site (no offense other people, do awesome custom art and i'll like you to :P). So moar alters. And especially EDH staples that i can bid on :D.
@Klug: While i agree that the moderation was a bit harsh, as you now know of the issue there isn't that much trouble to add in a link to the source. You shouldn't stop posting stuff here because of the one incident.
whew, long breaks and vacations and such call for a rereading of this thread! I'm stunned at all the alters here, especially The M.C. Escher Maze of Ith a while back.
and @Pesty
If that was your first alter, I can't wait to see ya get better, thats WAY Better than some other first alters I've seen
and especially @Nuvo
those ravagers just look better adn better, cant wait to get em in person!
@Pesty: That's your first? Geez, if I ever work up the guts (and art supplies) to do my first alter, I'd be thrilled if it's a fraction of that quality. I can't wait to see your second!
@ Sandreline - Awesome save on that Taiga, I love how it turned out.
@ Bigup - Do you have a tutorial anywhere on how you accomplish those amazing collages??

@Oneiros: Thank you so much! That was incredibly informative. I've often wondered about how alters relate in terms of fair use, and you've answered a lot of my questions!
Anyway, trying to slowly grind this forum back on topic.
I woke up this morning realizing that I was about to head to charlotte with NO LOLCATS! And I know, no self respecting artist would dare show up to a venue without lolcats.
Totally agree. I wasn't sure if the post was being "petulant brat" or "clever smart ass" but I decided to go with option B. And I have always been a huge fan of the goofy Memecards that BWS paints. They are painted well enough to be readable and clear, but rough enough to retain their paint quality. If my opinion matters (which I hope it doesn't), I want to see a lot more of those!
Hey guys! I've been altering cards for the last few months, checking this awesome thread from time to time.I'll post some of my stuff, feel free to comment!
These are the cards I did most recently ,all Zelda themed (I started playing the latest game last week ).
I had the idea for the next two from some custom mtg-Zelda cards I saw on the net, made from ingame screenshots:
And this one is the 3rd alter I ever made some months ago.
Two cards I made for a friend:
Some fan-art with anime girls on lands:
I made this one for halloween:D
A try to make a female version of Mad Max based on a photo found in google
Random Elf girl (my first try on a land and foil card)
And finally some random alters:
This one is inspired by a scene from Miyazaki's Spirited Away.
This one is the second alter I ever made and decided to make more.
Sorry for the huge post!
Thanks for all the alters posted so far, I've read +1000 pages already lol, it has been very inspiring! I'll try to check all 1925!
wow, I missed a lot. So, pretty much one of the best altered artists leaves MTGS due to moderation issues? Can't say I blame him lately. But sorely missed is an understatement when it comes to Eric.
on topic: Beautiful fix on that Taiga Sandreline! I like your 4 card jace Endless!
@spade, wow your alters look pretty good :]
your anime skills are awesome
what do you think of mine?
Thank you! I like your character designs! Only thing is do you make your outlines with a brush? they end up kinda thick, I personally use ink markers for the outlines and then fill the inside, give it a try it makes the drawing more clear.
my second alter....tried something little more substantial. Removing the soldier from the art :s It is missing a black line at the moment but I'll do that when I feel I have a more steady hand
Not 100% sure about it. What do you guys think?
Very nice! No sign that there was a border once the colors matched perfectly.By missing black line you mean the right part of the text box?Maybe you can remove the overlaping paint with a wet toothpick, not sure it always works though.

Nicely blended. Perhaps a little shadow at the bottom of the card?
Really sorry to see Klug taking a leave; his insight and alters are always a treat.
That said, here are some mighty wet goblins on an Inundate. I had never even heard of the card until it came in the mail. Not my best, but it still turned out pretty OK. Main goblin loosely based on the original Goblin Lackey.
