I acetone the area I plan onpainting. It's nice to work on a flat white space. It also allows you to have one less layer of paint on the card.
I haven't started using acetone yet . . . mainly because I haven't gone looking for the stuff yet. But I do use Staedtler Mars Plastic eraser a lot of the time to take most, if not all, the ink off the general area that I'm going to be working on. It works pretty well, and also leaves a generally white surface if you rub long enough.
The other day I was going through some bulk cards and found 3 foil swamps that someone took nail polish to, but they didn't do a very good job. The foil on one was riped a bit and they all had streaks all over them. so I decided to fix them up a bit. here are 2 that I put art on, what do you all think?
I get lucky if I can focus for 5 in a day. But thats probably my fault for having children and choosing to sit in front of the tv while I paint.
That's still pretty quick for me. I don't start working on a card if I know that I don't have at least a three hour time slot for painting.
And due to my work I don't have that much time anyway, although I'd like to paint all day long.
Thanks much to MTGSalvation! and to you guys who viewed and emailed me on those duals i recently posted..2 days and theyre all gone! thanks again! here's my new one's, but they are already reserved as of the moment..

@Poxy or Sandreline or any of the more senior members of this thread:
What do you seal your cards with? Is it the spray or from a bottle? How many coats and any problems with it?
I've been using a glossy varnish from a bottle...I wanted the shine of the acrylics to match that of the printed art, but I'm not so sure I like what it does to the color (which is not to say it is much, but it doesn't....feel right to me)
Hey guys, just posting a few of my favorite alters I have done in the past two weeks.
Hope you notice this Yawg, I took your advice and did more cards in my own style like the regrowth and Sol Ring I love getting advice from senior alterers (been doing this about 2 1/2 months.) Cardkitty, Yawg, Poxy and all you others: I have mad respect.
Here are two of the ones I did last week that I liked
Apocolomeggedon!!!
Brainstorm
And here are some favorites from this weeks auctions:
Sterling Grove
Fastbond
And this one is very odd, but I like, Ornithopter
@icbusybug: love your work! very original! my favorite would be the armageddon and the brainstorm..just make the edges clean and eveything's fine..you have your own style! keep it up!
@ Bigup - That ROUT is awesome! - You prob. assumed I would think it's great!!
I will need to PM you scans on my playmat from GenCon. I had all of the MTG artists sketch Disney on a playmat. Steve Belledin drew Goofy eating a plate of bloody brains and Chris Rahn drew Mickey giving the finger and crushing skulls under foot! - It's a riot.

Did you use metallic paint on the Ornithopter like you did with your sol ring? Either way, I love all of these. If you keep on doing cards like these, I'll keep on bidding

Do you guys use acryllics?
EDIT: Also how do you guys remove the ink? I just tried bleach and nail-polish remover. Neither worked.

P.S. Sorry for the quality...its a phone picture.
wow, this is awesome. the dual lands are pro too.
How do you guys get such good, clear pictures of your cards? I imagine you don't use your cell phones' cameras (yeah, sorry for the quality again)
I think I'm getting burnt out. This one is okay, but not as good as my first two of the day...probably because I've been painting for like 6 hours
Any I do from here on out, I'll capture w/ my digi instead of my phone. Thanks for the advice.

They were all brilliant! Amazing! Not sure why people would want altered curse of the cabals, but they still look damn nice!
I may have to see if I can commission a piece from you. I really like your work.
