Here is my altered baneslayer. I finally got the guts to alter it after some great inspriation from sandreline's latest baneslayer. I've been wanting to for awhile but I wasn't able to decide what style to do it in. I haven't sprayed it with varnish yet incase I decide to change anything, so it will look a bit more smoother/evened out after that.
C&C welcome please!
Jesus, I like it! I hope my cards that I traded to you might be altered to that extent one day =]
I recently drew these, that Urban legend might recognize....
Jace #1 got scrapped, but its chillin in my binder..
and the Queen of the Damned
still gotta scan my damned eternal witness, but im scared to after the whole " copying others alters" discussion that happened....
@Doc Stock: lol dude, I was pissed the guy straight up jacked my idea, did it very hastily, and tried to turn a quick buck from it.
I like your manga-esque planeswalkers, and I'd love to see your Witness
@futantshadow: That is odd. There is a LARGE leap of skill between those alters.
The Bloom Tender looks very beginner, while the Baneslayer is very pro. Why the gap?

Okay! I'll get it scanned or a picture taken asap.
Also, once you see it, you gotta tell me exactly how you did the amazing work on your wings o.o
one more thing, did you ever get the sig started? =o
@yawg07- thank you very much I'm not sure why the difference, I did them both at the same time; I think the photos don't do them justice- the glare picks up where the paint is over the card, which isn't noticable in person; it changes the color and the smoothness.. it's much nicer then it looks. Maybe I need a better photo..?
@poxy14 - I'm having difficulty with cleaning the border boxes. I try not to get any paint on them (which is hard b/c you need to get really close). I use the toothpick and I have a sharp sculpting knife but sometimes the paint seems to stain the box. Is there a way to get those stains off? Or should I paint over them? (which often looks more messy imo).
Thanks for the tips guys. I'll be wary around these "dealers". Btw Malaysia has one of the worse mail systems in the world and I am very interested in commissioning some altered cards from the very talented people on this board. What mailing would you recommend? Is DHL from the US/europe all the way here excruciatingly expensive? Thanks!
Hey, fellows. This is one I've been meaning to get around to for a while. Even though the scan sucks (I really need to get around to buying a good camera) the colors on Jace were always rather striking to me...
He's up for grabs within my sig along a few other goodies. I'm kinda strapped for cash right now, which helps everyone else (kinda) as I'm selling a lot of my back-logged alters pretty cheaply.
Hey Teeth! I just came on to post a Jace that I have also been meaning to do for a long time too. Crazy.
I'm going to go start the bidding on that Karn; I thought it was great when I first saw it.

Thanks, Gal, that Mindsculptor is pretty awesome. I personally like the original Jace artwork the best, I think the new one is way too boring for such a cool card, but you actually gave it some dynamism and it's really fun to look at now. Well done indeed.

What do you use to seal you cards after painting them? Also will the sealer make the colors look less flat and like they are just part of the cards?
Those lands and that bainslayer is amazing!!!
How long have some of the better alters been doing this and how many hours a day do you spend altering cards. I just wanted to see where I stood and if I am spending to much time on mine. I usally won't stop till it's done and I think that is a down side to my work.
@eternal burner- i use krylon flat varnish from walmart (about $3.59) which is what is recommended by others as well, and seems to work great. it does make the colors look less flat in the sense that it makes the whole card look the same for flat/shine, which is nice. it has a very minimal shine to it, similar to an original mtg card.

I agree 100%. Jace 2 looks pretty good when cropped with all the card graphice, but when he's all on his own in the center of the image, he feels pretty skinny and bare. I have one more JtMS I have to paint this week and I think I might take more artistic liberties with it.
If you don't want to see a card from the next set DO NOT CLICK HERE:
Have you seen the new Planeswalker? I did some mock ups of the new Sarkhan Vol and that card is awkward as hell. Flat out goofy. The pose is strange enough, but then add the over the shoulder angel and the fact that he is tiny on the card AND the fact that he is also surrounded by nothing....Ug. I saw the preview and took it personally.

I concur. I haven't been using hte Krylon Brand that long, but so far it seems to leave a great surface. As long as you lay down lots of very very thin coats, it is really smooth.

I saw it as he was hunkered down in a snowbank or something, out on a hunting trip, takin' a crap. Then some artist walked up behind him and started sketching. He heard scratching noises behind him, and stood up in surprise.
Maybe in your alter you can revise his legs so they aren't so awkward, or put him on a dragon, or something.

As far as I'm concerned the art has been sucking more and more with each consecutive set. Mirrordin block was about the last time I really enjoyed looking at the majority of the cards in a set (though I did appreciate Lorwyn's classico beauty).
