I'm not sure if this has been asked yet, but I found a web site a few years ago that allows copy/pasting of just the art from magic cards. However, I can't remember its name because I haven't been to it since I plucked the art for the Mirrodin clockwork creatures from it. What is/was the site's name, and is it still around?
Does anyone know how to make the number "10" or higher in the Magic Symbols 2008 font? I'm talking about the 10 that is used to indicate casting cost, like on any of the Legendary Eldrazi.
Turn down the font size slightly, and adjust the kerning appropriately.
I think this is more a question in regards to the Fair Use rules. But would it be kosher to create burlap banners of the Ravnica guild crests for sale at cons and the likes?

EDH deck: BRGXira Arien, insect theme
i'm not sure if this is the right area, and i'm kind of a lazy person as is, so i'll just give it a go here and hope for the best.
I remember coming across an Abe Sapien alter on a card a while back... just wondering if there are any users around here who can closely mimic Mr Mignola's art style, and where can I find you <3_<3
Has anyone made a Theros enchantment-thingy starfield overlay? I'm working on a template project, can't find an overlay anywhere & don't have the skills (or tokens) to make one by scanning all the Enchantment Creature tokens they've made so far.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
Does anyone know where I could find some art that looks good that would fit Uril, the Miststalker's persona but looks better then the normal art on the real card?
It's going to depend on the artist. I would suggest checking out some of the recent posts in the Altered Art Thread for art you like and then contact that artist. (S)he can give you an estimate on cost, time to do the piece, etc.
Ok would anyone be able to do a better job than I did on this?
What I basically want is to superimpose Kozilek, Title, creature type and abilities onto the Evaunit picture. I know the file dimensions aren't the same, but the base is the Evaunits01.
If this isn't the right place I'm sorry. I'm looking for a recommendation on paints for someone new to altering. I was using some cheap stuff and it didn't seem to do the trick. Also has anyone else had problems with getting the first layer to stay consistent on the card, I don't feel like the paint sticks to magic cards very well.
Hey guys, I've been having some trouble locating a high res image of Wilt-Leaf Liege. So far I've only been able to locate a 640x468 version of the card, which is terribly low for what I want to use it for. Does anyone know where to find a high res version of this? Google isn't helping much
Hello everyone! Sorry if I am in the wrong place, but I am just getting into altering cards and would like some help. If anyone is willing to let me know, are there any tips and tricks you have for color matching and the consistency of the paint? I'm having a lot of trouble with my base coats, they are really splotchy and lead to bumpy and ugly cards. Also, color matching. I bought an 8 pack of goldens, and they game with a sea green, blue, red, yellow, gold, magenta, and 2 whites. Are there any more I need? Making black is hard with what I have. Finally, does anyone have any suggestions for something simple I could do first to get the hand of it? I'm fairly decent with a pencil, but I'm still learning paints. Thanks!
What EXACT colors did you get? Heavy Body or Fluid? Post a scan of a primed card before you paint it and a final product. Pictures should help diagnose.
Has anyone made a Theros enchantment-thingy starfield overlay? I'm working on a template project, can't find an overlay anywhere & don't have the skills (or tokens) to make one by scanning all the Enchantment Creature tokens they've made so far.
Still looking for a little help on this, if anyone has it in their frames already.

I don't know how large you're looking for, but I have this piece at 1094x800 in my personal digital collection.
In the bottom left corner, in tiny letters, the copyright says "Wizards of the Coast." Does anyone know where (or if) this art was used? I know it's not on a card, so is it in a comic, MTGO, etc.?
Good question. I'm assuming that it was taken down because it was out of date. I did a quick search on Google and even this thread on Wizards' Community forums is 10 years old.
I did find this which includes links to many of the artists' websites. If for some reason an artist or artists you are looking for specifically aren't there I would try searching their names on Google. If they want to be found it should be easy to find them.
Is it legal to draw an A4 black and white pencil direct copy of some MtG art for nonprofit purposes, without the card borders and everything, and if so, what is the proper way to credit the artist?
And ff it's not legal, how much must the original picture be changed such that it becomes a derivative work and therefore legal? Would an extension of an art work or must it be significantly more different?
There are a few card arts that I really like, and it would be great if I could draw some of them for myself.

I'm not sure if its illegal or not, but if you are drawing arts for yourself I don't really think there would be an issue with it. I used to copy whole comic book pages as a kid to get a better handle on the shading of things. You start getting into the illegal aspect when you say if is your work (not a copy) or when you try to sell it. I think. Though, I'm not a laywer and I recall sleeping through most of my art law stuff in college.
Hi guys do you know where i could find hi-res version of Pulse of Tangle art.
thanks
Biggest I could easily find is 565x385, which is nowhere near Hi-Res. I don't think this guy has a website either.... Maybe somebody owns the original art and wouldn't mind scanning it in for ya?
Is it legal to draw an A4 black and white pencil direct copy of some MtG art for nonprofit purposes, without the card borders and everything,...
Possibly. That will depend on what it's being used for. If you simply want to copy an artist's work for the purposes of learning how they did it and/or improving your own artistic skills or as Fan Art then that's generally okay and covered under the guidelines of Fair Use. IF this "nonprofit purposes" involves third party like a charity, organization, or club then you may be heading into a gray area. Wizards and Hasbro probably aren't too keen on letting people use their intellectual property to promote things they aren't directly involved in (like the local animal shelter, book club, etc). Using their artwork can create the impression that they are okay with being associated with said third party which probably isn't the case no matter how good-natured they may be. Wizards does offer a fan site kit providing use the materials provided within the guidelines set forth so that might be something to look into.
And ff it's not legal, how much must the original picture be changed such that it becomes a derivative work and therefore legal? Would an extension of an art work or must it be significantly more different?
Derivative work can also be a gray area. Generally the line between how much is enough is not defined absolutely so it's open to interpretation. But Wikipedia's page on Derivative Works provides some info:
The transformation, modification or adaptation of the work must be substantial and bear its author's personality to be original and thus protected by copyright. Translations, cinematic adaptations and musical arrangements are common types of derivative works.
So, for example, an extension of the original artwork would probably not be enough. Even a cartoon version of MTG art may be too close to the original to not fall outside of the derivative works definition to be okay on its own. David O’Brien's Shivan Dragon Chainmailcould be considered transformative enough to be seen as a legal derivative work.
I hope this helps. Here's a video from a panel at San Diego Comic Con from a few years ago regarding Fan Art & Copyright. Very informative in a general sense.

I don't believe it's been on a card. There's a chance that the piece could have been commissioned, but never used, and so Wizards still retains the copyright.

He actually does have a very hard to find website with his artwork uploaded. Either that or it was on CGHub, which sadly is no longer in business. Either way, considering just how many pieces he's done, and how long ago that one was made, with how recently artists have been able to get their artwork up online at good resolutions with low costs, I don't think you're going to find this piece online.

I posted this in the other thread, but I figured I'd answer it here. The name of the font is MTG2011, but I have no idea where I got it from.

Here's a great post on the subject. In most cases you would sign/credit the piece in the following manner: "After ORIGINAL_ARTIST by YOUR_NAME"
