I've been looking into doing this sort of thing for a while. I don't know if it technically falls under the rights WotC extends back to the artist, but yeah, if it is, I'd buy them by the boatload. All the companies I've talked to wanted minimum orders not in hundreds, or even thousands, but tens or hundreds of thousands. So if anybody does find a solution for smallish quantities with high quality, lemme know.

That makes sense. If you think about it, a 10,000 sleeve order isn't that big. It's 100 packs of 100 cards.
Sadly the most I could ever see myself buying is ~1000 sleeves. Which is enough for a cube (450+150 basic lands), some extras incase sleeves break (100) and enough for a few decks (4 with sideboard).

Truthfully i am looking into opening my own company that does exactly that as i have noticed no one seems to have a custom sleeve company yet. I don't have all the details YET, but I plan on starting off with sleeves for games like Magic, yu-gi-oh, pokemon and other large market trading card games, and eventually moving on to the smaller market games. (maybe even moving onto making sleeves for games like dominion)
But regardless of what my plan is i still have to do research on how to get this thing started.

Well if you need testers that will give feed back feel free to contact me.

I can see by that stupid look on your face you're confused; "Why would I reveal this to you now?" Simply put, you have no chance to escape, I put my plan into motion 35 blocks ago.

I have a playgroup for that but thanks for the offer.
Actually all i need to figure out is the following
-Pricing (Which is affordable but at the same time profitable)
-how to get the images onto the sleeves
-how to make sleeves.
once that is done it end up being a way to centre the sleeves so the printed imaged lines up.

So... all of it?
You're in the same boat as everyone else, but seem to be willing to put the money/effort into it.
That's a good thing, though, I'm looking forward to seeing your results.

Yea, well when you have no way of making money, any way of making it seems like less work than it would to someone else. And the best part is once i have it figured out, not much work needed after (I still need maintenance and all but for the actual work. not much)
Only thing I'm worried about is lawsuits. If i allow anyone to put any image they want on the back of sleeve and i just print it, I will get in deep **** if a company they took the picture form finds out and sues me.

No more risk than companies that do custom T-shirts and such online (cafepress, zazzle, etc.). Just refuse to print copyrighted material without authorization from the owner of the image.
I can produce custom playmats, but have been unable to find a process that would let me produce custom card sleeves at a reasonable cost. So good luck to you! (I also believe that you are underestimating the amount of work involved to produce something like this)
They apparently do offer custom card sleeves for MtG, looks like $.25 a sleeve or your can do 60 for about 15 bucks. Looked fairly interesting, though I would want to see them in person before I shelled out money for them..
don;t get me worng i know all this stuff i need to do, but before i even open i would wnat to test my product. Better to have a good prototype so you can get a loan (Funding) otherwise you get the funding, **** up and then up to your knees in ****.
the main thing standing in the way of this working is copyright. unless you can get some kind of license from WotC, this whole thing is impossible.
...only if he's looking to use copyrighted images or characters. Otherwise they are just card sleeves. If he's just printing trendy sayings on them or user submitted work (refusing to print copyrighted material), he should be safe from legal action by WotC.
There's a lot that can be done without actually using Wizards' properties. Hell, even offering them in custom colors could prove to be popular (or adding the client's name to them; or funny saying, etc.)
That said, there's still a lot involved in producing something like this.
I think you loose a lot of the appeal there. I think the main market here is getting your commander on your sleeves - certainly the only thing I'd fork over extra money for.
Dude, I want to be on my sleeves. I would pay a lot for that.
There is a guy in California that said he'd make a playmat with me naked on it and matching sleeves would be so ridiculously aweful or awesome depending on your sense of humor and tolerance for fat hairy guys.

yea but it would come down to if your junk is showing or not.

UltraPro probably has something like that already in the works. I was thinking more along the lines of some of the card sleeves that Legion offers through T&T and SCG:
Hey guys. we can do "custom runs" but the quantities, as has been alluded to earlier in this thread are very large. I can't reasonably make you a set of 80 sleeves, or even a few sets of 80 sleeves. our minimum print runs are in the thousands of units of 50 or 80 count sleeves. That's better than max quoted me when I went looking a few years ago for exactly what you all are talking about, I was also met with crickets when I approached Ultra pro. that's how I ended up making my own stuff and becoming my own brand.

Yeah I can't imagine how anyone can just get 80 done. Sleeves don't work that way.
I just checked out your site. Awesome how you guys started your own brand. I like that you signed RK Post for some artwork. That is cool. I am trying to do the same and get some designers for my playmat business.
I know there were a few threads about this a while back, but nothing recent so I thought I'd make a new thread for the topic. Does anyone know of anywhere that will print small batches of custom card sleeves?

I make custom card sleeves.
It took me forever to invent the process. I'm looking for beta players to test them.
I find your ideas intriguing and want to subscribe to your newsletter...
Please tell us more about what you are looking for in a beta tester?

Why would it be impossible unless i get permission from Wizards?
Yea well all copyrighted material would have to go through wizards (Or respective company)
I do believe that other things would be availble though. Original artwork, names, sayings, etc.

Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)

$25 Custom Playmats to the Masses
We are definitely interested in sleeves. Send me a message about pricing as I would be willing to order thousands.
