I would like you guys to post designs (text only) for a PBG planeswalker card for next month's Artwork contest. I didn't feel comfortable designing it myself because I didn't know him as well as you guys did.
Stickying this thread now and crossposting to Custom Cards as soon as AoK gives approval.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
This was designed purely from the name up, as I didn't know him particularly well either.
PolarBearGod - 3UU
Snow Planeswalker - PBG
As PolarBearGod comes into play, name an artist.
+1: Tap or untap up to two target permanents drawn by the named artist.
-1: Put a 2/2 Polar-Bear blue creature token with islandwalk into play.
-6: Put a flood counter on all lands you don't control. These lands are islands.
[4]
A modification:
Here's a modification of my above card.
PolarBearGod - 2{S}{S}
Snow Planeswalker - PBG
+1: Tap or untap up to two target permanents sharing an artist.
-1: Put a 2/2 Polar-Bear snow creature token with into play.
-6: Destroy all nonsnow lands.
[4]
@LSK - I REALLY like that idea, but what would you think about tweaking it so that instead of blue it was Snow mana and instead of Islands, Snow-lands (for both abilities, maybe a "permafrost" counter on the later)? That would just seem more "consistent" with PBG. Unless he favored blue personally. I didn't really know him well either. Just enough to miss him.
This card tweaks what planes walkers have done in the past, but so be it.
PolarBearGod 1(U/W)(U/W)
Whenever a creature comes into play, put a +1/+1 counter on it. Creatures with +1/+1 counters on them are polar bears in addition to their other creature types.
+1: Put a +1/+1 counter on target polar bear
-1: Target polar bear gets +2/+2 untill end of turn
-4: Creatures you control gain flying, trample, and doublestrike untill end of turn.
3 'loyalty'
Probably under or over powered, but I hope it get's across the essence I've detected from lurking in this forum and reading his many tributes.
I like what a lot of people suggested
I am heavily inspired at the moment and have my take on PBG
---------------------------------------------------------- Richie Proffitt, PolarBearGod ~ (5)
Planeswalker - PBG
Affinity for snow-covered permanents
+1: Tap or untap all permanents illustrated by the same artist
-1: Put two 2/2 Polar-Bear creature tokens into play
-5: Choose an artist; search for a card you own from outside the game that is illustrated by the chosen artist, reveal that card, and put it into your hand.
[3]

**The cost/color of Rich should be Gold imo
In my opinion, "gold" ties into 'art' in general, and the fact that he was multifaceted...he wasnt (in terms of MTG) 'one color or the other' but a wonderful blend of all colors
I'm a bit old-fashioned and am not 100% with the whole planeswalkers -- but the abilities I put down are ones I feel represent Rich in a great way. If the costs of things need to be tweaked, etc -- just let me know

I think that someone close to him should tell us what he favored playing (what color(s)) and what strategy he favored as well, and then build the Planeswalker according to it.
However, if we can't find such a person, I think it should deal with snowmana, and artistic abilities, but not bad abilities; they should be looked at as Unhinged like abilities; not broken, but not really good (an effect like Ass Wupin would be great).
+1: Tap or untap two permanents that share an artist.
-2: Put 2 2/2 snow bear creature token into play with snowwalk.
-5: Choose an artist, destroy each permanent in play with the chosen artist.
[4]
Polar Bear God 2WU
Planeswalker - PBG
+1: Each player skips his or her next combat phase. Play this abilty only before your combat phase.
-2: Put a Humility counter on each creature. Those creatures are 1/1 and can't attack. (This effect doesn't end at end of turn.)
-6: Each player gains two times X life and draws X cards, where X is the number of humility counters in play.
Loyalty: 4
I am willing to create the best proxy i can of the winning entry using the winning art entry for the Memorial Cube; a single foiled one. That may not sound like much, but trust me, it is.

That would be absolutely great. And an incredible gesture. Many thanks FKiH.
Is it too much to do a gold leaf border? He deserves it.
Like the Championship proxy card borders? I dunno. I think whatever you do would be great though, so whichever border you think is the best should work as you probably knew him better then most.
That said, is there a way to shorten the card text? I think it'll all fit (mostly), but it'll look bulky, not that it matters much.

It only looks bulky because the box confines it sideways. We still have to wait till a winner is decided before we tackle asthetics. When are submissions for card ideas due by? [i'm assuming you're running this like the monthly art contests are run.]
What set symbol should we use? None? I was thinking for Collector's Number; 1/1. What about the copyright line?

I believe this is run as a community/joint effort with an "acceptable" time period to get a determined 'winner' or 'choice' rather than have it a straight up contest
With that being said, if anyone else has ideas (card wise) please submit them...and if not, can we sorta decide what abilities/MTG stuff PolarBearGod actually is?
There will be a bunch of aesthetic, visual, and physical creation things to plan out as well....
*fyi* im not dictating nor trying to be bossy on other people - this is just an external thinking:
I would assume that within another week or two we would see a finalizing form of the card itself (visuals forming as well)....to me, that would be an appropriate timetable
Not to mention June contests can be pushed back/there are more important things to deal with (imho)
I mean, hell, we're all on a forum for something that most people would describe as a "children's card game"...do what makes you happy. You are never too old to enjoy yourself.
Richie Proffitt 2W/U W/U
Planeswalker - Richie
Whenever a permanent you control becomes tapped you may pay (1) if you do you may put a loyalty counter on Richie Proffitt.
-3 :Put a 2/2 white and blue polar bear creature token into play.
-8 :Tap all permanents in play players gain life equal to the number of permanents tapped this way.
(3)
This is what I came up with off the top of my head, I hope you guys enjoy it, but most of all I hope Richie would have approved.

My intentions with this were to couple this card design with the results of a July art contest and create a card that is a fitting tribute, one that we'd be proud to have in the memorial cube.
I need someone to send me a bit of a primer on how the contests were being run so that I know what I need to do to properly finish out June's and get July's off the ground.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
My (basically slightly altered at this point) idea, considering the "permanant fog" effect seemed a tad too powerful on a 4cc PW. Creatures attacking a planewalker is normally how you deal with them, so it seems hard to justify taking out that means of removal.:
Proffitt, Polar Bear God 2UW
Snow Planeswalker - Proffitt
+1: Reveal the top card of your library. If that card is snow, you may draw a card.
-2: Put two 2/2 white and blue Polar Bear snow creature tokens into play.
-6: Double target player's life total.
3
(I REALLY like the copyright line idea. Simple and elegant, but noting it as a memorial of sorts)
I definitely liked the 2 bears in place of maybe a Beast token on Garruk. I also felt that his first ability should be somewhat Ice Age aligned, but be pretty powerful in the end. His last ability should be bombtastic imho, and a Beacon seems about right. Plus, the idea of the Polar Bear God giving his power to give somebody else heaps of life seems spot on.
I will definitely be trying to do a piece of work for this, probably over altering something for the memorial cube. Time to break out my serious paints. >_> I have to remember to make it portrait aligned, so that it works with the PW frame.
I mean, hell, we're all on a forum for something that most people would describe as a "children's card game"...do what makes you happy. You are never too old to enjoy yourself.
Annorax is a really busy guy i'm guessing. Rarely responds to anything i ever send him.
It is sad that we've gotten nowhere with this thread. Several card designs and no inkling of a decision being made.
If a card design isn't chosen by someone higher up, then i'm going ahead and making the Cube proxy of my design. I just thought that this card would be a community design, but whatever.

Given that I'm now a mod in Artwork,1 I can assume you that this will be next month's Artwork contest. I haven't been paying as much attention to this thread as I should have (and I don't have time to read it over carefully right now), but I'll read up on the ideas and post my thoughts in the next day or two.
Hopefully we'll be able to get a fitting PBG card in time. If not, I'll make a call on enough of the specifics to allow for an artwork contest and then we can continue fleshing out the details of the card itself during July.
1 - Don't be alarmed if you didn't notice, this is new as of some time earlier today. I'm stepping in as the second moderator here and the PBG account will be left on for symbolic reasons.
The art will actually be next month's (July's) artwork contest. If you want to enter and start early nothing's stopping you.
As for the card itself, here's a list of what appear to be the common themes throughout the thread:
Type of Planeswalker.
Either multicolored (likely U/W) or snow (color undetermined).
An Unhinged-feeling ability (or two or three) having to do with artists.
(This one can easily be junked.)
Copyright line of "Rest in Peace, Richie Proffitt. 1977 - 2008". Either no collectors number or a number of 1/1.
I want to hear what other people think are important aspects of this card. I could pick/make a card here out of the things people have said, but I don't want to do that as I feel this really needs to be a community effort as much as possible.
If you check out my suggestion, that's what I did. I've also tried to find a finishing ability that showed a peaceful person. I think that combat stuff like pump, etc, is somewhat aggressive for a memorial card. That's why I went for a "peaceful win" ability...
Yeah, I definitely agree with this one. It should be some sort of peaceful card that has to do with art.
If you don't mind, I'm going to tinker with your original design a little and see what I can come up with.
Richie "PolarBearGod" Proffitt :2mana:{/}{/} Snow Planeswalker - PolarBearGod +1: Name an artist. Reveal the top card of your library. If it is illustrated by the named artist put it into your hand. Otherwise put it on bottom of your library. -2: Search your library for a card that shares an artist with a permanent you control, reveal it and put it in your hand. Shuffle your library. -7: If you have played at least three cards by three different artists this turn, you win the game. [4]
I kept most of the stuff very similar (if not the same), but I reworded a couple things and made it snow.
Once again, I would really appreciate it if other people would join in the discussion so we can get some more community input here. That card tries to mix all the categories I had in my last post with a peaceful feel attached, but I'm definitely open to other things.
