I noticed that a lot of new members are only here to post scams, such as Viagra or girls from India or whatever. Anyway, I had an idea: What if the captcha we use was some kind of magic trivia? It would be really easy for a magic player, and impossible for everybody else, and this could decrease the number of money requests from Nigerian Princes. What do you think of that?

We had discussed such a thing but felt it could be a little difficult to come up with trivia that everyone would know offhand. If we simplify it too much so that anyone who plays would know the people who are posting these scams could easily figure out our questions as a lot of them make a lot of accounts repeatedly so it would be hard to come up with enough differing trivia to make it challenging for them but easy enough that any magic player could answer them.
We will keep discussing options on how to answer the problem in a way that has the least impact on the users.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.

I would think that it might not be too hard to come up with a good 100 questions or so... Though it would be hard not to have an issue of being exclusionary towards newer players that join the site.
Hey, since you help w/ Tech, I have a tech issue (glitch maybe). Even after I click the gray bell icon with the red 1 in the top-right that tells me someone has responded to a comment, it won't go away. I click it, go to another window in the 'Salv & it appears again. This has been going on for 2 days. Can you please look into it? Thanks.
I'm not entirely sure where to put this, but I'm at a loss as to where else it would go and I know this is something you used to do.
Is it still possible to change usernames? If so can mine be changed to Algernone25 to match my twitch account?

Hey Feyd, it seems that you are the one who usually responds to account-related issues, so I figured I would ask you here.
In an effort to streamline my social media presence somewhat, I want to change the Twitch account that this MTGS account is connected to. I can disconnect my account from Twitch on their side, but it seems like something needs to be done on this end as well. Could you give me a hand?
Also wondering if this will give me an opportunity to change my username.
Thanks for your time.
Absolutely.
I've disconnected your account from your twitch profile here, so when you log in with your other twitch account you can attach it here.
Then just respond here with what you want your new account name to be.
I'm not entirely sure you're the person I should ask this, but... Why is it that so many spambots make it into our forums? It's just a trend I've been noticing lately, so I figured I'd ask o.O
We're actually much better off than we used to be. Although they come in waves through the week, we've been averaging about 10-15 spam threads per day lately. That's actually not that bad for a major forum like us.
Although you'll still see me/us call them "adbots" out of habit, they aren't actually "bots" anymore. They're real people in impoverished areas getting paid super low wages to post this spam. This is the pinnacle point of why they are impossible to stop altogether. Suppose you, yourself decided to make a new account, come on here and post all about this awesome experience you had at a kitchen warehouse. What's to stop you? There's nothing that would distinguish you as a spammer through this process. You pass all "is this a human" verification, captchas, etc. You come on here, and up until the point that you actually post the kitchen spam, there's truly no way to tell that your intentions aren't to be a normal user. At that point you could have just as easily posted a review of Kitchen Finx instead of Kitchen Sinks.
The true bots are long gone, we still have the bot-stopping checks. Our account creation process absolutely needs a human to do it. But there's no way to stop the human-driven spam threads. Once they put real people behind the wheel, they won the war of stopping them before they got here. For these spammers, we have a different method: our automated system looks at what they posted after the fact. Of the spam that gets posted on our forum, over 90% of these threads disappear within a minute of their posting. Every new account has a suspicion window where the system analyzes every post, pm, thread, and comment they make. The algorithm is complex, but it's basically a learning machine that learns based on what we mark as spam and not-spam. When a new spam site comes to town, he can often get a few threads to stick before we mark them spam and the Spam Filter learns. After that, almost everything he tries to post disappears right away.
Generally if you see the spam threads: the spammers are at it while you're browsing, they're posting something we haven't gotten before, or it's in the small percent that slips through the filter. This morning, in particular, was kind of heavy because we got about 20 spam threads made and three of those were for sites/products I haven't seen before. Only the odd three required a moderator to get rid of, the other 17 were killed automatically.
All this said, we're actually doing well in the war against adbots/spam.
Some still gets through, and it's annoying as hell, but it's nothing compared to what many have to deal with.
(If you want to see what some sites go through, just search "comment spam" and read the horrors)
Hello, I tried to find a better place to put this, but the previous name change thread was retired and there doesn't seem to be anywhere else. Since you did this previously, do you think you could change my name to "RivenEsq" ?

Changed!
..and yeah, I guess we never made a new one after Introduce Yourself retired.
I'll bring it up.
Hi, I'm a long-time member whose account has become inaccessible after the Twitch merge. It no longer lets me accss. My original account was kodieyost: I can provide verification via ID (as that is my legal name, and I don't think there's another person playing MTG with my name xD), or anything else you'd deem required. Please and thank you in advance for any assistance!!

As part of the EU thing, my account was deleted, but I wasn't particularly sad about it, because there was one single topic started by me which was of any importance, and it was approaching necro time anyway because, having been gravely ill the past week and a half, I was unable to update it. So yeah, rather than giving you more work in the form of one more guy demanding to have his account restored and his important topic revived, I figured I'd just go ahead and make a new account, with which I would then recreate the aforementioned important topic anew (my health conditions are SLIGHTLY improving, so I feel confident I'd be able to update it more often). Before I go ahead and do just that, however, I wanted to confirm that it wouldn't be against any rules.
Due to my shaky health, I wasn't planning to restore, much less continue, that series, and I really don't care about my old account (also because I've started this new one, I don't need two). If you really liked them, maybe I could request to have just them brought back? But if bringing them back without restoring the account would not be possible, then you know what? I'll just go ahead and make a new and improved version of the series when I feel better. To be honest, the fact that you, busy as you are, would have found the time not only to check them out but also enjoy them is something that really warms my heart, so just because of that, I wouldn't mind reposting them with better formatting, polished (and less opinion-based) writing style, and more focus on the most recent chapters of the story everyone is more familiar with.
You really made my day there, I tell you: I'm in a rather dark spot right now, so being complimented on something I poured my heart on means a lot to me
Ok sorry to bug you here, but this is really starting to get ridiculous.
It's about this topic. Remember when I asked you if it was ok to just start a new account, and to remake the one topic I cared about rather than trying to get my old stuff revived? Yeah, after you said it was ok, I proceeded to do just that... And the topic got automatically flagged as spam, for reasons I as of yet don't understand: I was told it was because it was similar to the old one and so it triggered an automatic anti-spambot system, but with the old one deleted is that even an issue? Anyway, I contacted the competent mod of the Custom Set Creation area, and the topic was restored... And now it's in the spambot trash bin again.
Why is this happening? I'm no bloody spambot. I just want to share my created cards in peace.
.... Aaaaand I still get a "Forbidden" message, apparently the damn thing is still in the spam bin. It's weird, it does show up in the "Custom Set Creation" topic, but clicking on it still nets me the Forbidden message :/
What if you just erased it and I wrote it anew? Or would that get me auto-flagged again? This whole deal is really driving me nuts, I tell you.

The spam filter can get overaggressive sometimes, especially with long posts.
You have enough posts now that it shouldn't bother you any more, though.
Sorry >_<
