This isn't extremely important or anything, but I'm curious: why does it say I have 714 posts here and 749 on the old forum?
The beta content is a snapshot from around a month ago. Any posts you've made on the main forums since the snapshot are not present here. I would assume that once this goes live it will be a complete mirror of what is on the old forums (meaning all these posts made here during the beta will be gone).
I posted these things on the current forums, but I figured (was instructed by Galspanic) that I should post them here as well:
If I'm going to be frank, I hate the Beta from trying to use it so far. My primer layout is pretty messed up, as is my sig, and about 100 of my posts have gone missing. It is lacking a lot of functions that I like to use, like being able to sort threads by replies or views, and the search function is much more of a pain to use in my opinion. I had somewhat of a hard time locating threads that I usually have no problem finding here, and I'm also not at all a fan of the aesthetic appearance of the beta. Overall I think it's a significant step in the wrong direction. I have been a member of a couple other forums in the past that have changed their appearance / layout / functionality, and on those occasions, the changes have caused my participation in those forums to decline and / or cease completely.
So another thing I noticed on the Beta is that having boxes doesn't work, like the ones for quotes. It makes my primer look really ugly rather than all pretty like on here. Also the deck tags look really awful on the Beta. They take up way too much room and having everything centered in those cavernous boxes of empty space looks horrible. Also my two decklists show up one on top of the other instead of side by side.
Also, the guild symbol smilies don't seem to be working, and I couldn't get my sig banner to show up.
can you please link both versions of your primer (the beta version and the live version) so I can take a look
@cryogen already made a note of your primer format issues
Alright, so I want to make sure I got this straight.
You guys purchased MTGSalvation, are moving it to a new look/forum-software in order to indoctrinate it into your own series of websites, are losing hundreds of features in the process, and are expecting us to come here and tell you what we want?
I want to tell you what needs fixing, but I don't even know where to start. Go look at Salvation. Go look at how many posts utilize the forum features it has that Curse doesn't. Go look at the clean, sleek, and unimposing styling. Go look at how aspects of the forum (such as Posts-per-page, Threads-per-page, etc) can be customized to the users liking. Go look at how threads can be sorted by replies, and how easy it is to search through a forum (and do so without even leaving the current page). Go look at how it doesn't ask me if I'm a Curse member at the bottom of the page while already logged in. Go look at all the gizmos and gadgets users can utilize in their control panel. Go look at how easy everything is. And hey, while you're at it, go look at MTGNews.com (have fun with the url redirect!), and see what happened to it when it was bought and poorly managed. I mean, hey, if there's one thing that Sally proved to us, it's how easy it actually is to uproot a community and move it elsewhere.
I understand that Curse Inc. is a business. I know you purchased Salvation as an investment. But if this is what you have to offer--to take the forums that we're used to and to downgrade it beyond recognition--you're setting a very dismal tone of what's to come.
I think I'm really going to miss the formatting of the decklists that the old site has.
- Having the deck neatly tucked within it's own visual package, with extract links in the upper right hand corner IS really nice. A
- The card linking is better in the old website. I don't need a full page to see details on a card, 90% of it being price and advertising. I just need a little window opening up, as the original website provides. All the relevant information is neatly packaged within.Under the new system, I can't even select different releases of a card to view the differnet art available. fail.
- The 'grayer' text annoying. Text versus links should really contrast. Having the white background is also too strong on the eyes.
- Links should be underlined. Simple as that.
- Half the detail in my signature is missing. If players are to share there experiences and decklists, the signatures are going to HAVE to pass that information along.
- I do enjoy italicized text and indentation of format for the quotes and quote box.
In summary, I feel like I'm going to be very disappointed with the final result as I would recommend a close look towards mirroring as many aspects of your old site and incorporate them into your new one. Why take a step backwards? As is, you'll be seeing me online a great deal less once the beta is released. It's just not as near as user friendly for deckbuilding tools, which is probably the reason why most players come to your site.
Is there a way to get rid of the leaving mtgs notice on links? I at least would like an option to turn that off somewhere even if it isn't the default.

In this vein, when the beta becomes prime, all links referencing the old site will die, yes? I ask as the current caretaker of the Upcoming Promos thread in the Rumor Mill. That will take a bit of restructuring.
Other:
The sub forum area in the Rumor Mill is squishing the last two cells (viewing on an iPad if that helps).
The text of my sig is not showing correct font and many others' seem to be cut off.
Log in asks for email address, but really wanted user name.
Why is the sig length so short? My sig on the other boards is just fine, but this one says 512 characters max. No idea why that would be set to be so low.
EDIT: Also the length of your user location is shorter. I can't keep "Deep in the heart of the mountains of Shiv" anymore. Also it won't let me make a custom user title. Additionally, my Kaalia Primer's coding is weird looking (card images used to be side-by-side the deck lists, now they take up their own piece of the page) and it doesn't show my first post.:/
This may have already been covered, but do we lose our post count from the old site? I have a little over a thousand posts, and I think it would be a little awkward for me to lose all of those when we completely move to this site. I think it would be an even bigger deal to people who have 15,000 posts and huge numbers like that.
Sorry to the people who put in time to work on this, but I don't like the change. Don't get me wrong, I like the look here. It's solid and fits in perfectly with all the other Curse sites. The only real dislike is that it's a bit sluggish compared to the original MtGS. I understand if this change is to market this site (and others) to new players. I just like the 'classic' look and feel that has been MtGS for years.
Overall, I'd be okay with the change and still use the site, assuming the rest of the community still would too. The people are what make the place awesome.
On the left side of each topic name where it shows the number of pages for the thread, the "..." appears AFTER the last page instead of in front of it.
Good layout, but, at the price of slower loading. Or maybe just because I opened it recently. I also suggesting that the beta also has mobile web page (not app) that launch automatically when I open it from my smartphone, so it can be more "lightweight".
You played JESUS?!?! I heard none of his guys stay in the graveyard, and once you think you have him beat he ALWAYS comes back to win within three turns. I like...WORSHIP him.
I'm at 666 posts again, mwahahahaha! Yeah, earlier snapshot from main site, saw that but still, it's a funny coincidence.
Other than that, squished last two columns on Ipad, can't find where to change the theme (current one is too contrast for my eyes), and can't wait to hide signatures.
Also:
0 titles unlocked!
Current Title: Wizard Mentor
You currently have not earned any titles. Get active in the community and post some comments!
Is this supposed to be this way? Because this looks kinda controversal.
Edit: ah, posted here and now it's 5 titles and "select title" option. Still, that was fun
I hope you aren't too close yet, as the beta in its current state is still lacking in a number of ways. I don't really care about the look and feel - I just want the functionality that currently exists:
BBCode boxes don't work
No 'thank you' system for acknowledging good posts
Deck lists take up an enormous amount of space, the entire page width
There's definitely more, but I don't want to run through all the missing features that MTGSalvation currently has. It should be easy enough to look at MTGSalvation and determine that. Much of what Dawn_ mentioned in post #85 resonates with my own view. Honestly, I'm curious what the point is in making all these changes if they don't result in a completely superior forum. Why should we accept downgrades?
Other than that, squished last two columns on Ipad, can't find where to change the theme (current one is too contrast for my eyes), and can't wait to hide signatures.
- The only theme is the current one, no word on whether they plan to actually add any others. I believe this is still being treated as 'low priority' despite being a health issue for some users.
- No option to hide signatures or avatars, haven't seen anything about whether that's coming.
I'd like to add another voice mirroring what Dawn_ has said. I'm not happy that this is being rolled out when it is strictly worse than the current forum. And it is strictly worse. The only improvements seem to be the new card tags which numerous posters have claimed is worse than the current implementation. The grey on white is slightly better than the previous black on white but is still not conducive to viewing the forum for long periods of time, and constantly brushing off of this issue seems to be happening. (Your users shouldn't have to run a hacked together custom script to get this kind of thing fixed.)
Please do not make this move until it is a benefit to the community. If you take features away from people you better have equal or greater improvements to show for it and a good reason for why the removed features isn't there. And you really need that for any and every feature we might lose in this move.
All in all, I am displeased with the look and feel of this.
As many others who came before me, I have got used to MtGS in the way it's set up on the old site.
My main concern passed that is: where is the clans sub?
Am I just not seeing it?
Will any popular topics be moved over or does every discussion need to start over from scratch? There is some useful information in past discussions that I make decisions on when building EDH decks.
every single post will be ported over just as they were here now (keep in mind the import on the beta is ~ a month old atm)
My issues are the lack of a dark skin (I use the red and black on on the old site), that my avatar doesn't have its animation anymore, and that signatures sem like they are being neutered?

Also, will we be able to give thumbs up (or similar) to comments?
And one more: for card links, will the link eventually open in its own pop-up window like it does on the old forum? I LOVE that feature.
