Hey all of my work browsing bros with strict web proxies to try and get around; I recently managed to install Tor on my work machine and it bypasses the flags that usually block almost all the sites my proxy looks for. It allows me to see the MTGS beta site from work, just an fyi.
Hope it helps. Might not defeat DNS level stuff though.
It seems I can't log in. I was on the Beta, in one of the earlier runs last year, but now I try my e-mail and login info and it says invalid credentials. I only have the one e-mail too, so I know that's not it. I've tried all manner of my password and various differing takes on it, but still nothing.
Were all these user IDs reset sometime between Beta versions?
The change is terrible. One of the big reasons I frequent MTGSalvation is the style is very conductive to high information transfer, especially in variously resized windows. The clear background is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also non-distracting and easy to read from (like the off-white pages of a book). Space is well conserved without shrinking text, especially when viewing the full forum breakdown page. The lack of top, side, or bottom bars is deeply appreciated to conserve screen space. All of these well designed features are thrown away for no good reason, in a disgusting display of corporatization.
The requirement to create a new login is utterly moronic. I can't think of anything more stupid. This isn't transition to a "new beta". This is a step backwards into a steaming cesspool of bad website design. I seriously doubt I will continue frequenting MTGSalvation with the regularity that I do now, knowing that my user experience is second to a quick buck.
Shortcuts will likely not redirect, as the the URLs will be different and this site will sit in an archived state.
Your subscriptions SHOULD transfer. (The easiest way would be to log in to the Beta right now and see if they have)
Blogposts... are something I'm not an expert on.

Hopefully I can help clarify some of the recent stuff:
The site URL will remain the same. We will still be www.mtgsalvation.com, but the legacy archive of the old site will be changed to something like old.mtgsalvation.com and will remain viewable (but not interactible).
As I understand it, there is built-in legacy compatibility for most old URLs, regardless of the change in file structure, so that should be okay. It might not if you had a ton of browser bookmarks to specific posts, but the rest should be okay. All posts on this site will be migrated over. We're doing a complete transplant, and the 8 hours of downtime are to make sure we import the full database to the new site.
Also note that all of the existing links within MTGS will be properly fixed to make sure that none of anyone's posts will break.
Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

Yea, I have my browser set to open the last pages/tabs that were open when I closed the browser, and most of the time I am following links in my email inbox to threads, so I was just wondering how that will work in like 12hrs. I guess we'll see. I assume y'all will be working hard to make sure this is as smooth as possible.

Yeah definitely. We'll be at all-hands-on-deck following the migration to ensure any kinks we encounter can be addressed quickly.
The reason I mentioned specific post links in the above post is because I know that thread IDs were preserved, but an optional extra clarifying bit has been added to the URL. But I don't know for sure that the post IDs were retained in the same structure. Everything on site will have the links checked and filtered to retain functionality, but I'm unsure if you perhaps had a bookmark on firefox to the 33rd post in this thread if it would still stay (since such a link goes to the post ID, not to the thread). Make sense?

Yes, makes sense. It's just not really relevant to me. Thanks anyway.:D

Easy enough to check. Let's try the second post of this thread:

Use your MTGS email and password to sign into your MTGS account
Can't log into my old account because I can't check which email it was registered too. Can't merge my old account(tells me password is invalid, even when I am 100% sure it's correct.) So dumb.

if you dont know the email to the old account, then how are you trying to merge it?
I cant hand out emails directly without confirmation first ( have a few methods) with that said - we are also looking into a tool that lets you enter your old MTGS name and password and get your email in return. Will look at that in the monring!

With that handled, it looks like there should be nothing to worry about with external link permanence in the migration. Thanks fnord

Use your MTGS email and password to sign into your MTGS account
if you dont know the email to the old account, then how are you trying to merge it?
What is the name of your old account?
Name of old Account is 'Von'
The username is only for curse usernames. You must use the email to merge from a MTGS account.
Ill look into verifying what I can
If you can PM me the email associated with the account I can try to reset the password
