Question: If I change my email on my account here, will that transfer to the curse account? I'd like to not have my email associated with a curse account, and if I can easily do that by changing my email on here then that is what I want to do.
Question: If I change my email on my account here, will that transfer to the curse account? I'd like to not have my email associated with a curse account, and if I can easily do that by changing my email on here then that is what I want to do.
You ALREADY have your email associated with a Curse account.
Ahh, I see this is where the confusion is stemming form on part. I never expected this website to be different. To me its been a foregone conclusion that this website would be fully integrated into curse network eventually.
I never saw the account here as anything other than a curse account (since the sale, obviously).
I think the most ironic thing about the "invasive" complaints regarding the account transfer to Curse, is that on our current janky old vBulletin version that is being held together with sticks and duct tape, people's information is less secure here than over there.
You ALREADY have your email associated with a Curse account.
I know. But what I am wondering is how they are handling it if somebody changes their email on here prior to the new site going live? Will that change be lost to the nether, or would it wipe out the old curse account associated with that email?
If changing our email here doesn't solve this issue, does anybody know an easy way to cancel the account with curse that was automatically created?
This isn't as much as "you got signed up for something' as it is 'Curse copied the contents of the MTGSalvation site and put it on their own servers, then made our accounts work with theirs'. The account you're unhappy about having is the one you're currently posting on. They simply integrated it with their own network to ensure that you would actually be able to use it when the time came. I believe this option is preferable to having 100,000 members have to re-register when the full site goes live and lose all their post counts, posting histories, etc.
Iso: I believe that, when it comes to notifications for responses, you can select which notifications you get. Look under 'my account' and 'notification settings'. There's a bunch of checkboxes so you can customize how it works.
I'm not sure if it's already been done, but I'm posting on behalf of the work-browsing people in here to make sure the techs get the message.
I'd rather have everyone re-register and lose everything than my information be compromised in the event of a cyber problem with Curse.

Im not happy that my data has been transferred to another site without being asked considering this is the very reason we were told that another transfer couldn't happen. You cant say its not ok one way and do the exact same thing another. So technically I need to log in to get a NEW ID to access old data. Very disappointed...

And yours.
I don't think it's being understood that this isn't a 'new site'. This isn't a community moving from News to Salvation, to make the comparison from this site's history. We're changing over from a vBulletin-style forum to Curse's proprietary forum-style. They've made some slight changes to the login style to conform to their already existent accounts. They log in with emails, we don't. They also have a 'network-wide account', we don't, for obvious reasons. So that's happening.
The most that's going on is that data they already have as part of MTGSalvation is changing from one server (I mean this in the physical sense) to another as part of the change. It's not going to new hands. It's the same people that already have it.
And I don't want to have to make this a 'mod request', but I need to make it clear that this isn't an excuse to bring up an old argument that's been settled. Let it be.

No idea. I just wanted to know if that's what you wanted, because it means being removed entirely from MTGSalvation. From what I can tell, you can't be on the new site and not have a Curse account.
I'd still super duper love to get an official answer from Curse on whether or not they will fix the site tags to make sure those of us who browse MTGS while at work, can continue to do so?
It's a pretty big deal, and I am confident you will lose a large amount of traffic/members due to this alone.
That can't possibly be their aim. The "maybes" and "hopefullys" from people who don't really know, worry me.
For the people complaining about not having access at work, can't you just use one of the numerous web proxies avliable on the internet, it got me through highschool just fine. When They used to block sties.
I don't sit at a desk at work. I'm constantly moving around. I use my iPod to access MTGS now as it is. This would only serve to make accessing the site needlessly inconvenient.
Besides, the tech guy would just ban my access if he figured it out.
Iso: I believe that, when it comes to notifications for responses, you can select which notifications you get. Look under 'my account' and 'notification settings'. There's a bunch of checkboxes so you can customize how it works.
I did that. I appear to still be receiving notifications I don't care about.

Belgareth - Please understand that this is a beta and we are coming to the community to recieve feedback on it. Its very early in the beta so please rather than just saying you dont like it try to come up with positive ways to make it better. We came to the community to try to broaden the feedback we recieve on it, not to have it dismissed entirely. That is not the way to see changes for the better.
Saying "I don't like it," while vague, is feedback. You should apologize to Belgareth for dismissing his feedback and assuming he was dismissing the site.
Well, complaining here isn't going to be nearly a productive as listing problems in the appropriate place. They have been incredibly responsive to the reports so far and if you don't like something we can work with that. That's why we have a beta site, right?
What happens, for example, if someone *isn't* interested in getting a curse id? Does anything move to the new site (like their information currently stored in the MTGS database), or if they never sign up is there just nothing there except a post trail for a non-member?
You're already signed up. All of my emails now log in as Curse ID's. I never signed up for anything. I've never used a Curse site before in my life until now. I'm not sure why people weren't given the option of not signing up, maybe retiring from MTGS.
It's pretty invasive.
I don't like this at all, guys.
I don't like my information being sent to a corporate site I want nothing to do with. I haven't even looked at this beta stuff, nor do I intend to.
In what way? If they were sending you something, or advertising, or something along those lines I'd agree - but its purely a login name. It doesn't actually *do* anything...
If it transfers my information into something I didn't sign up for, that's a problem for me.
And I don't want to have to make this a 'mod request', but I need to make it clear that this isn't an excuse to bring up an old argument that's been settled. Let it be.
No, this should actually be discussed before you delete our accounts, Nai. Where would be the best place for all of us to do so?
Eh... debatable but I don't think security is the main issue or even a big one , but I wouldn't claim the new site is vastly more secure.
It's not so much about current security (thankfully, we have no current holes!) as being sustainable in the future.

Sing lustily and with good courage.
Be aware of singing as if you were half dead,
or half asleep:
but lift your voice with strength.
Be no more afraid of your voice now,
nor more ashamed of its being heard,
than when you sang the songs of Satan.

No But you basicly signed me up to a service I did not request to be connected to. You so called Mod request is ignored as I had to use an example that hits it close to home and on the damn nail. Fact is I do not want to be a part of this more so as I have zero confidence of the current staff as a whole to deal with this level of info. So consider this as a last message and confirmation that I wish to not have a account tide to this. If I want a Curse ID I will sign up for it on my own accord on another site on my own terms and time.
So not only is our information is not safe, but we are signed up for a service we did not ask for. I am not surprised by the shady greedy actions the mods have taken here.
And when users complain about this, the same mods threaten to delete those users. The same users who where in a group the mods despised. Good show you guys.

Think of it this way: instead of your username you log in with your email now. And also were redisigning the site. And also your login can be used on any curse site now.
Its not like anything is really changing, curse has had this data for months.
And vbulletin is pretty unsecure anyway. Im sure if a malicious sql junkie wanted to they could get all the username email and password data off this site without much trouble.
I for one welcome our new orwellian overlords, make sure your post does not violate our terms before posting.

@mr: I certainly hope that by 'a life like yours' that you're not referring strictly to what has happened to you on MTGS. If you're not, then I'm sorry for your life experiences, but this is not an appropriate conversation to appeal to emotion in. That said, you have not abided by my request wherein I asked you to point out to me where the mods have threatened to delete 'threatening user accounts', or whatever buzzwords you were using to artificially negatively amplify the situation, so I can only presume that these posts do not exist.
