Work, mixed with having a sine wave like internet posting history.
It's all been transfered, I never visited any other Curse site before either, and just by putting my MTGS-registered email and my MTGS password, I already had a "reserved" Curse(d) ID.
Okay, if that's the case, that's really unfortunate.

The explosion that... destroyed our city, razed our home, and turned our fields into wasteland was nothing compared to what was now happening to those who survived.
The current boards are very simple- as easy to navigate as such a large message board can be, simple graphical interface that loads quickly and easilly even in my antiquated work brower, minimally invasive ads, minimal viaul cluttter.
The new boards are a visual assault on the senses. I don't know what "curse" is, but I hate the idea of having to have a profile with someone I know nothing about in order to access these forums.
I'm a fan of the card database idea, and if the card tags on the forum go there, it will make things like tagging spoiled cards in a potential list much less of a headache. There's some cool stuff here, don't get me wrong, but I don't think the look or feel of the forum should change at all - there's a reason this is one of the largest, if not the largest, MTG forums on the web, right? Why fix what isn't broken?

The Quote function doesn't work for me on this forum. Sorry for any confusion created.
Hmm, I've never visited any curse site nor the beta site, so I don't think I've signed up (even unintentionally) for anything. I'm more curious what happens if I don't. Does anything transfer over if I don't do anything or do I need to be proactive to actually prevent transfer?
Note: this is all assumptions. I claim no knowledge of the inner workings of Curse sites. What I'm stating is how I would do it.
For Curse to transfer the boards off of vBulletin to their own system they need to somehow link posts to authors. Each author needs an entry in the database so Curse must create you an account, even if you have not ever accessed a Curse backend powered site before. The reason our Curse IDs seem to be LegacyMTGSalvationXXXX is because those are the auto-generated accounts that were created during the database transition. When you login using your MTGS email and password some sort of alias account is created and linked to that LegacyMTGS auto-generated account.
From a technical standpoint there really isn't another way to do this and not have the boards break into an unworking mess.
This isn't a new development. MTGS was sold to Curse months ago. In the thread that announced the sale Boubouille said we'd likely be moving to the Curse platform:
We're still finalizing details, currently MTGSalvation just runs on the default vBulletin skin so yeah, that might change but I'm usually pretty annoying when it comes to forum skins so we should be fine. I'll probably post previews on the forums before it goes live anyway to get community feedback.
There will be a couple of features improvements, the goal is mostly to move platforms first (from vBulletin to our own platform) and then improve gradually depending on user feedback. Some parts of the site could use better tools and hopefully we'll have time to improve the site to make it slightly awesome over the year.
Big thing to remember: this is a beta so it's supposed to be rough. Let the Curse techs know your problems and concerns now so they can fix things during their rework period. One of the worse things as a developer is to solicit feedback on a beta, get little to none, and then get hammered with complaints on go-live.

Look, I'm the old fogey of old fogies. If ever there was someone here who would be opposed to moving from vBulletin 3.x, it'd be me (since I've been getting used to its quirks for going on ten years now). And I have a lot of issues with the Beta, which I've been raising both here and on the site.
But we can't stay here forever. vB 3.x doesn't get security updates anymore. It isn't supported, it isn't maintained, there's no longer an infrastructure of people working to improve it and extend it. The system we have right now is cobbled and jerry-rigged together, and it works for the moment, but it's not a sustainable solution in the long term.
Right now we have the ability to migrate to a system where the developers are being totally responsive to our needs and demands. That's about the best we can ask for.

Sing lustily and with good courage.
Be aware of singing as if you were half dead,
or half asleep:
but lift your voice with strength.
Be no more afraid of your voice now,
nor more ashamed of its being heard,
than when you sang the songs of Satan.
1. This Curse sign-in thing needs something done about it as it is causing my computer at work fits trying to sign-in. I know it's not firefox since it worked fine at home, so it could possibly be because I am on a cloud or something, but half the time I signed in, it didn't sign me in and instead just redirected me to a log-in screen, telling me to log in or join. I am not sure what is causing it as it seems random, but it's annoying. Also in that same vein I seem to be randomly logged off after a while. This is the only site it happens on, so I feel it probably is specific to the site/log-in stuff.
2. When I sign-in to the Beta and it goes through it seems to sign me in for every Curse site. This is annoying because everytime I want to check the red tracker on ReignofGaming it prompts me to choose a nickname and won't let me in to the site. Signing into one site shouldn't sign you in to other sites.
3. I still have the problem where when I sign in I am being signed-in to the wrong account. As it is I am currently unable to access my Guardman account on the Beta.
This is just getting really frustrating and would appreciate it if the sign-in system didn't use email (and used username like currently) or Curse log in as this seems to be the crux of these problems.
I'd still super duper love to get an official answer from Curse on whether or not they will fix the site tags to make sure those of us who browse MTGS while at work, can continue to do so?
It's a pretty big deal, and I am confident you will lose a large amount of traffic/members due to this alone.
That can't possibly be their aim. The "maybes" and "hopefullys" from people who don't really know, worry me.
I view this site pretty much exclusively at work. Like many others, anything curse related is blocked for me. And rightfully so, as they have many times in the past been a vector for viruses and malware. When I read this thread I first hoped that I could just lurk and never post (which is virtually what I do now). But unfortunately I think I'll just move on instead.
For the people complaining about not having access at work, can't you just use one of the numerous web proxies avliable on the internet, it got me through highschool just fine. When They used to block sties.

Did you ask in the appropriate forum on the Beta site where the techs are all keeping watch?

Yeah, because it is worth getting fired just to read a MTG forum.
Did you ask in the appropriate forum on the Beta site where the techs are all keeping watch?
I am just going to point this out, but if they can't access the site because of the tags, they probably aren't able to ask the questions on the site.
Also can we get some techs to look at this thread on this site. It is clear there are several problems that are making it difficult or impossible to access the site, let alone ask questions there. Having them follow this thread is both prudent and more useful then having them follow and answer the beta thread alone.
I assume that work is not the ONLY site they are looking at Salvation from. Either way, Curse folks do look at this thread. It's just more useful to have as much there as possible.
I assume that work is not the ONLY site they are looking at Salvation from. Either way, Curse folks do look at this thread. It's just more useful to have as much there as possible.
I will try to do that when I am home, though I browse and post primarily from work, so things such as this are not always on my mind when I am home.
I'd have loved to get an answer here in this thread, since I thought that is what it was for?
The beta is blocked by my work, flagging it as games. MTGS has never been blocked. When we fully move to the curse site, will it be this address or will it be one that might be blocked?

While it might be more convenient for them, it isn't practical or the best way to go about it. The discussion should probably be shifted away from the beta site as much as possible to this site until several things are changed or fixed, as right now the beta site is not in a state to have a productive discussion about the beta sight.
For one more discussion seems to be going on here than the Beta. Two several people are having trouble accessing the beta sight making discussion and responses over the beta site hard to impossible to make or at the very least follow. Three it is more awkward to post there due to the way quotes and posting is handled.
Because I don't like Curse? I don't need reasons to not want my email information logging me into something I didn't sign it up for.
So don't log in to it? My confusion stems form a confusion over what the invasion is... I get that you, for whatever reason, do not want a curse account. What I don't get is how its an invasion.
You aren't forced to use it.
It doesn't do anything, other than allow you to log into the forums with your existing user name.
You *already have* an account with a curse website (this one, right here!), all they are doing is enabling this account to log in on the new platform.
Where is the "invasiveness"?
Note, I'm not trying to attack you, I jsut don't understand where you are coming form with this, so i want to.

Because this website is different. I was using a forum account for a site that Curse happens to own. That's it. Curse ID's are different. I can use it on multiple sites. Someone said logging them into the Beta also logged them into other Curse websites. That means if some random no-name game forum gets hacked (Curse has a history of being victim virus and malware attacks), my email address could be comprimised because I technically have an account on that website. Heck, maybe I am logged into it because I am currently browsing Salvation. Yes, it is far-fetched, but things happen.
I'm more confused why you don't get that having an ID I don't want might be considered invasive to me.
This isn't as much as "you got signed up for something' as it is 'Curse copied the contents of the MTGSalvation site and put it on their own servers, then made our accounts work with theirs'. The account you're unhappy about having is the one you're currently posting on. They simply integrated it with their own network to ensure that you would actually be able to use it when the time came. I believe this option is preferable to having 100,000 members have to re-register when the full site goes live and lose all their post counts, posting histories, etc.
Iso: I believe that, when it comes to notifications for responses, you can select which notifications you get. Look under 'my account' and 'notification settings'. There's a bunch of checkboxes so you can customize how it works.
I'm not sure if it's already been done, but I'm posting on behalf of the work-browsing people in here to make sure the techs get the message.
