not that i ever had any love for the gutter (was never a member, and never wanted to be, and never cared), but this ongoing drama and bull**** and string of ****ups is continuing to be a severe embarrassment to the staff and the site in general.

Unfair on multiple levels.
Rian's resigned from tech, and the staff don't have a monetary stake in this.
And frankly, when the dust had all settled on Gloves, the only true problem Rian ever had was keeping things civil with other staff members. Most of the other problems I'd thought were going on, were overblown or not solely his responsibility, and I was mistaken to say otherwise and assassinate his reputation.

What the hell?
Get your facts straight and lay off the argumentative tone in discussing rianalnn and the staff. Same goes with anyone who might consider accusing people of stuff.
The sale of the site would by and large financially benefit or compensate Hannes, as it should; but, it'd also bring benefits to the users, I believe.
I'm far, far more concerned with the staff's ability to stop leaks from private areas of the site. Can we please find out who this jackass is? I don't care if they're leaking information they think is important, things will never go well if there's no trust that what they say in private says private.

Its always been Nai that told us everything in the gutter. This keeps being brought up and answered by everyone.
This is definitely not pretty. I believe that if everyone had just been truthful to begin with than all of this could have been avoided. Seriously..
1. A lot of former staff would still be around.
2. The gutterites would not be banned (however, the gutter would be closed).
3. CI would not be filled with giant flaming heaps of dog vomit pointed at the admins.
4. MTGS would be a better place.
5. Curse sale would probably be going smoother.
It's like I said last month. When/If these Curse fellows take over, they are going to clean house. My newest theory is this: They will have a completely new staff before they even change the curtains. Even before they take over they apparently have a lot of pull. MTGS will be much different after this whole mess is over.
Oh well, long as there are still trolls, deck lists, buy lists and rumors on these forums everything will be just fine to me.
Its always been Nai that told us everything in the gutter. This keeps being brought up and answered by everyone.
Yeah, Nai's the one who leaked his own post and mine? Come off it.

I'm just gonna state my personal opinion here, opposers be damned:
The problem with these leaks is not that PM, or those ML quotes and whatever interpretation they may be given. The problem here is that this whole Curse deal produced a few banned members who shouldn't be banned. Members who care (or cared) about this site, their community and who made this site actually better. Members with not inconsiderable amounts of posts and years of contributing to this site. And they are banned now because some staff member(s?) decided to entice them with leaks into getting banned. I want to believe my fellow staffers who say that they act in good faith. And mostly, I do. But the outcome is that a few months after the latest attempt at closing the Gutter, it is now dead, and its most prominent members banned. So this is either a very wicked series of actions, or a big train of mess-ups. Either way, it is sordid, sordid, sordid indeed.
I'm just gonna post this link here, I'm sure that is no longer a bannable offense: http://www.curse.com/
I wanted to post in here, knowing that very well this could be my last post on these forums. Undoubtedly, there will be damage control almost immediately, and I am willing to throw myself under the bus to address some concerns the staff had about my post found here. This information is not publicly available because the information I was sent from my source is concentrated in the Moderator Lounge. There are two threads - one talking about my post and one talking about what actions to take concerning the leak that is in the OP. The one I am making people privy to is a thread in which several moderators have talked about banning me immediately because they felt I had threatened the site and it's integrity.
Let me be clear: I made no threats. I make no threats, ever. I make promises. However, this was not malicious, even though the paranoia of the staff seems to be catching on like it's cool. My post was made after I had sent a message to ExpiredRascals. In fact, I am taking this thread as permission to make that message to ER public:
N_S sent to a few of us a private message detailing exactly what happened concerning his suspension/ban, and the deal with Curse right now. Since I'm waiting for a response from Curse (specifically, I'm waiting for a response from a source inside Curse) concerning it's validity, I just wanted to let you know that we do have some information, but I have no intention to post it unless what is said is legitimately true and confirmed.
I have no intention of posting it on these forums.
As I said, I had no intention of posting it to this site, period. I had no intention of posting it at all unless it was confirmed to be authentic. By that, I mean that my source inside Curse would give me information, and I would make a decision based on that.
Releasing this information was not an attempt to stymie the drama that would have come had I or another person that received this leak done so before you. As two moderators admitted in ML, this is damage control.
Everything I have, now, is 100% confirmed by the staff on this site. I thank you for it. I truly, truly do. Now I sit on it. This is my insurance policy, sadly. I seriously never thought I would need one on this site, but congratulations! Your ineptitude has shown that I need one. Awesome job!
If you want to contact me, my AIM is ardentxofxmind. I will gladly talk to the staff to resolve this issue, because as I said: I want this site to thrive and grow.
EDIT: I also want to say that after I read the post Iggey/N_S sent me I immediately made ER aware of it's existence. This was not a "wait an hour after posting" when it comes to this. I made sure that people were aware immediately, and was never asked for anything.
"The above post is the opinion of the poster and is not indicative of any stance taken by the President of the United States, Congress, the Department of Defense, the Pentagon, the Department of the Navy, or the United States Marine Corps."
I don't really get one part. Did Curse tell you that you had to A)close/reform the Gutter and B)mislead the userbase as to why this was happening? If they didn't, then what, that entire quoted post is just made up? If they did do so, I can't see why anyone would want to be involved with them ever. Curse would only do this because they don't want CURSE to look bad. That sets a terrible precedent that you shouldn't want anything to do with. It states, in absolutely plain language, that Curse is completely willing to sacrifice the integrity of the site as long as it means protecting themselves.
I can understand Hannes wanting to sell the site. He's made a ton of money off of it and is probably ready to just take a lump payment and move on. But he should find someone better(that will actually care) to take over.
I'm just gonna state my personal opinion here, opposers be damned:
I shall speak my mind likewise. The demographics of the users are changing, and the people are changing, and the average new user is a different from from the ones of the past, to which I have become accustomed; I don't like this. A number of "Gutterites" have been banned; I am actually happy for them. Some other stuff such as my main joie de vivre here is the wiki and I have absolutely no idea what is or was going to happen were the site to be sold and it packaged into the deal. I also have no idea of the stock or value that the wiki has or its future, so that was awkward and annoyed me, to understate things (pardon me if you don't think I am not entitled to be annoyed or worse).
There might be a purpose in actually informing the system operators of MTGS Wiki as to discussions and, if you must limit the scope, then about the wiki and some other things. We should be informed, you know, so we could cut and run; jump ship; or whatever.
The problem with these leaks is not that PM, or those ML quotes and whatever interpretation they may be given. The problem here is that this whole Curse deal produced a few banned members who shouldn't be banned. As you've phrased it, it sounds like that this was entrapment, with some members being induced to do these things that got them banned; however, it's not literally entrapment, as there is a significant amount of liberty and no one was forced to leak things or whatever.
And they are banned now because some staff member(s?) decided to entice them with leaks into getting banned.
I'm just gonna post this link here, I'm sure that is no longer a bannable offense: http://www.curse.com/
From a practical standpoint, I really can't help but agree with your spoiler image. It shouldn't have been difficult for the staff to envision what would happen.
But I don't think they actually intended for the Curse information to leak; I don't think it was intended to entice the gutter to post it and get themselves banned. They were too afraid of what might happen if the Curse info leaked early to try to prod the gutter into pasting it all over the place.
We're talking about the enticement case, right? The idea that the senior staff intended to bait the gutter into suiciding?
There are a number of people that still buy into that, but having read what NS and Kpaca and Kijin have said about it and conversed with them, I'm not convinced.
The staff thought that the Curse deal breaking to the userbase prematurely might cause a firestorm. They didn't want it leaking via gutterites who would paint it in the most skeptical light possible.

I wasn't convinced about it initially. In fact, I took it with far less than a grain of salt. But as I said, it was still something to be investigated, and I do pride myself on being an investigative journalist! That's a lie, I pride myself on just making decisions based on all the facts I can gather. But investigative journalism happens when it comes to something like this!
As I had initially told Expired Rascals, I had no intention of going forward with it unless it proved to be true. Now, I will assume, for the sake of argument, that ER didn't talk to the rest of the staff about this. Good faith on my part, let's say. It's still a very paranoid mindset they've gotten themselves into.
As I said, I am basing this off of information provided to me by a source with access to ML. I have provided my AOL Instant Messenger name, and I'll go one step further, I'll provide my Skype Name and Yahoo! Instant Messenger name! Ready?
Both are FaheyUSMC! \o/

"The above post is the opinion of the poster and is not indicative of any stance taken by the President of the United States, Congress, the Department of Defense, the Pentagon, the Department of the Navy, or the United States Marine Corps."
The idea that senior staff wanted the leak to happen in order to ban some Gutterites is nothing but a ridiculous conspiracy theory. I'll leave it at that.
I think that in a way, Gaea's Regent is right. Banning N_S may have been a pretty bad way to keep the secret under wraps, which was, after all, what we should have been concerned about. From an "is this ban correct or not" standpoint, I would 100% say that it was correct, but because of how crucial this information was, the best way to handle it might have been to try to cooperate with him, and ignore our policies and whatnot for a while due to the extraordinary situation.
Also my own post in that Mod Lounge thread that is being discussed:
I am more than willing to sacrifice my position for the betterment of the site, but I've decided that I can't lie to the users. I absolutely can not, and I resign before I do it. At the absolute worst I can be vague and ignore direct questions, but I will not literally say "this was our decision, Curse had nothing to do with it".
This isn't just about the Gutter (to be frank, while I'm not happy with closing it, it's something I can understand and accept), it's about honesty, and complete break of trust. We (the admins, at least) will probably be vilified over something we didn't want to do, and for good reason. Because to, again, be perfectly frank, the drama over this will be among the most justified the site has seen.
We will most certainly talk with the Curse people more about this, because it is likely that they don't understand the scope of this. Hopefully we won't have to do what's been proposed.
After this, we kinda got a wake-up call from Curse, and things seemed fine again and we would not have to abandon our negotiations in pegs. However, it was leaked without that information, and therefore we got the ****storm from about a month ago (that included three bannings, two suspensions, and my resignation).
From a practical standpoint, I really can't help but agree with your spoiler image. It shouldn't have been difficult for the staff to envision what would happen.
Do keep in mind that when you have to keep things under wraps for 3-4 days more short term thinking it okay. I had no idea on June 27th (or whatever day it was) that we would still have ANYTHING secretive at this point. I was under the impression initially that the sale would be done by August 1st. Hahahah. I'm an idiot.
I knew banning people that were giving out information was going to blow up in our faces but I also figured that it wouldn't matter much because at some point Hannes and Curse have to say something.. anything... guys? Hello? Guys?
That would be a conservative estimate from me. There are a number of times since I've been here where information that was supposed to be sealed made its way out.
EDIT: Seriously, how is it that Blackvise and I are the only staff members here?!

As one of the newest Globals, I feel I should give my opinion here:
Sene's words are bolded for emphasis. It seems that the information that is being leaked is being leaked selectively, so not only does it breach our Moderator code, but it has been actively harming sally.
We were, as I recall, planning on how to go forward, and waiting for clarification from Curse before proceeding, then the leak of the post that made everything seem worse than it was occured. Had the the entire conversation been leaked, things could have gone smoother, but unfortunately that didn't happen.

I swear, talking in here, on this site about anything that disagrees with the moderators is like talking to a freakin Jedi.
"These aren't the droids you're looking"
That just seems like it's being repeated over and over again. The crazy thing....Nai breached the CoC by knowingly leaking information that was supposed to be "super secret" and nothing has come of it. And it seems that there is a consensus of agreement to that fact....and nothing has been done of it. Now I understand that Nai is actually one of the better Mods/Admins here and he, unlike most of the lower echelon, uses his brain to come to a equitable decision that is logical and just.
This was a site where you can and had fun...said dumb stuff....talked to people you were "friends" with....maybe discussed Magic and got the newest information out there about upcoming releases....now you can't even ask a question about a card without getting an infraction for not phrasing it right or tagging properly.
Yet we still have a "Speculation" section were every other thread is "Force of Will in next Expansion set!"
