(Seriously though, what is that site in the link? How does it have the MTGNews name?)
I'm grateful for MTGNews and the time I spent on it, but frankly, after the schism, the site was on a slow decline, and it got to the point where the things just needed to be allowed to end. We went past the event horizon a long time ago.
Well, first The Dojo, now MTGNews. All things come and go in their time. Let's make the most of this site while it lasts.
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
Any updates on MTGN? It's still down at the moment.
I would be willing to bet that you have answered your own inquiry. I'm pretty sure they won't be posting here to inform anyone, seeing as this site is the reason for it's slow demise.

I suspect the only person who could tell you anything would be Raa, and he's never been the type to do so.

Sing lustily and with good courage.
Be aware of singing as if you were half dead,
or half asleep:
but lift your voice with strength.
Be no more afraid of your voice now,
nor more ashamed of its being heard,
than when you sang the songs of Satan.

On October 6th, longtime MTGN admin THEDARKPRIESTCYRIC managed to get in touch with Raa (over the phone), and according to Cyric, Raa's planning on getting MTGN back up and running. I'd almost wager that somebody'll send a manned mission to Mars, clone dinosaurs that go on a rampage throughout Los Angeles, or crown a breakdancing robot named Stankalicious "King of America" before Raa ever successfully pulls through on that claim, though, so I wouldn't hold my breath. :b

Thanks for that update, Jon - greatly appreciated. As sad as it is... I'd say evidence backs your assessment.
I remember being here for the transition from MTGNews and the years previous as part of that site. It was sad to see the civil war at the time, and though I haven't looked back on the site very much over the years, it still had an impact and I am sad to see that the time has probably come to let those years rest.

I will leave Jon to make the official update but MTG News has found a new home .

Is it http://www.mtgdarkness.com/? I went there a few times a couple years ago and recognized a few familiar nicknames... I think. Been too long. I guessed it was a new place for the MTGNewsers that were still around, but I don't know the official word on it.

It was until Darkness reoriented to mafia, they did leave a few MTG subforums but not the main perspective.
I'm glad the 'News community has a new place for their own. I wish you guys could have chilled with us, though. We'd love to have you.
we love to chill with you guys also on our link.. but when we get big enough we would definitely host multi-site competitions with you guys..
I invite all people willing to join us to feel free ..
Update post by Jon on MTG News's temporary site before coming to us:
[quote] Selvaxri, Vedik, FO, DotP, DPC, ZC, [Y], everybody else here who isn't there already - this (and to a lesser extent MTGD) is where I'm hanging out post-MTGN. A few familiar card creation threads (The Name Game, Goblin ABCs, Elf ABCs, etc., etc.) have been started there already.
(mods: I'm posting on an old thread. If you'd rather me start a new thread to talk about this, feel free to split this off, or PM me.)
I've been back to MTGN many times over the years, but never as a regular. Of course as some know, I was one of the people involved during some critical times, although I've never maintained any hard feelings with (or from) anyone else involved. It was something that happened, we all made decisions that we thought were the best at the time, and the rest is history.
I haven't been to check the site in at least a year. Looks like it has been gone the majority of that time, and I'm only just now hearing about what ended up happening! It was cool to read this thread and see some names I hadn't seen in a very long time, people mentioning my former clan The Called (the first clan ever), and so forth.
I'm not sad the site is gone. Maybe 20 or 30 people used it - that's not enough to keep a blog page running, let alone a massive website. But what was lost was the historical record, unfortunately. History was truly made on MTGN. We started before forums were really a "thing" on the internet, and helped popularize that concept. We invented and named the idea of Clans, something that has spread to other forums and websites. We battled WotC's efforts to prevent us from obtaining the earliest possible spoilers - and always won. In some ways, there was more freedom on the internet in those days, and being able to look back on it would be a good thing.
I suppose there are sites like the "wayback internet machine", which let us view parts of old site fragments long after they're gone. And part of me, the part that values privacy and anonymity, is glad that some of that info is gone. But a lot of me wishes it could still be accessed.
I'm afraid I won't see any replies directed at me posted here, as this isn't a forum I browse regularly. If you want to respond about anything I said here, and need me to hear it, PM me
sniper from mtgnews says hi *gasp* :-D I stopped going to that site as a regular around 2004, so I missed the whole exodus to MTGS. . . although now this website suits me fine Either way, it was good times back in the wild west of 'news.
Thanks for the memories, 'news.

I am immensely sad to see it go. After all, it was at News where I first registered and later joined the Greek Alliance.
Thanks for update, Xen. It is nice to see an old-timer like you here...
Let this great clan rest in peace (2001-2011)
MTGNews is back online, AND HAS BEEN TAKEN OVER BY POLAND?! http://www.mtgnews.pl/
So THAT'S what Raa was up to!

Look, people, we already know what happened to MTGNews. It got hijacked by Poland. The question is how do we stop this hostile takeover?
-bad pun was here-
But on a more serious note, its sad to see it seriously go.....
