I will probably get a warning or infraction for this, but it has to be said...the mods are ruining this forum. I know it isn't fair to group them all together and there are some great ones on here. Unfortunately it seems as though a small group of them let this "power" go to their head and over mod. I have never been a part of a forum that issues 1/10 of the warnings that some of these guys do. They say in a football game the best ref is the one who goes unnoticed and doesn't affect the game. I feel the same holds true to mods. If this trend continues I'm sure even more contributors, like Klug, will pack up and decide to leave. It really is a shame because this is a great forum. Whoever is in charge of moderating the mods really should step up and put a leash on some of these guys! Just my 2 cents, like it matters!
I haven't been here long but I don't think I've seen this sort of problem here. Really the only thing I haven't liked is the deletion of somewhat humorous spam threads, and I even acknowledge that that's the right decision. Either way if the mods were actually tyrannical and power hungry as you described I doubt this thread would help any...
It's just my opinion. In response to you saying you don't think this would help...as I said it isn't all of them. It's just a handful, but they are doing enough to ruin this place. My hope is that one of the higher ups realize what is going on and begins to mod them closer, you never know. If everyone stands back and says nothing nothing ever gets fixed.
There are a couple of ways for actually dealing with this situation:
1- Actually PM'ing the Mod in question, detailing your qualms with the actions of the Mod.
2- Post in the specific Mod's Help desk forum. Again, detailing your qualms.
3- Contact a Global Admin about said Mod. Details about your qualms will be very important here, as well as contents of PM discussion with the Mod in question.
Mods are people just like everyone else, they are not perfect. They also do have to abide by a set of rules/standards that we do. When one gets out of hand, you just need to report them. Eventually with enough reports/complaints, said Mod gets demoted.
Posting random complaint threads will get you nowhere here. Thanks for your time and patience.
Side note: This post will probably get me a warning. However, I am in no way intending to back-seat mod here. Just trying to point them in the "right" direction.

I hope you don't get warned for that post because it was helpful. Never really knew the hierarchy of mods. Good to know they can be reported to a global mod. Thanks!
*Just as a side note, I've received warning from mods that were 100% justified. I'm really not complaining about infractions or warnings I've received it's just the general amount of them being handed out. In fact the latest warning I received was from a mod I hold in very high regard and believe he is one of the best on here.
Yes, if you have a problem with the performance of a moderator, please contact the moderator directly first, and if necessary, the forum administrators - myself, Yukora, or Annorax. We'll look into it and notify you what actions, if any, were found necessary.
Warnings and infractions are there because you broke a rule. If you have a problem with why what you did was against the rules, you can PM the moderator in question, ask them on their helpdesk about the rule or appeal to a global.
Thanks Azrael I appreciate it. Please let me reiterate that MOST of the Mods on here are great, just seems like a few need to be put on a leash.
Arcadic, not complaining about any warning or infractions I've received at all. The ones I have I deserved and am fine with it. Again as previously stated I did not realize the hierarchy of mods, global, admin. In the future if I have a problem I will simply go to the next level.
Anytime. I know that the mods here can be a bit Naziesque at times. In the end, it is for the better. Just like vaccination shots. They are a pain at first, but they protect you from crap. Even better, sometimes they actually can help you.

This comparison made me chuckle But it's actually not too far off.
I personally hand out a lot of warnings. Like, a lot. But they don't actually do anything, they're just there to serve as rules reminders. Rules that everyone's best served to follow. There's nothing ill-intended about them (or the rules we try to enforce), they are simply our means to ensure a well-functioning community. I hand out infractions way less often (and those are the ones that actually count towards suspensions, etc).
However, obviously there are times when a mod is in the wrong or misunderstood something, and in those cases we will do our best to rectify it. We're all on the same side, etc. But yes, the way to point out our mistakes would be by contacting us about them (PM or helpdesk). If you do not receive a satisfying answer, you may then move "up the ladder" (to globals/admins).

The best football refs don't have to deal with as many offenses as mods on this site do; football refs have 22 players and some coaches to watch over, but mods on just about any forum issue many more infractions and warnings because they have a lot more users to monitor.
Infractions aren't issued for personal reasons here; if there was a problem, it'd be dealt with immediately upon identification. I'm not seeing anything wrong with the volume of warnings at the moment, since it tends to match the volume of active users.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
The only infraction I ever got wasn't even an actual infraction. That douchebag mod didn't even remove it or apologize when I explained the situation and that he was 100% wrong.
Huh, image leeching from XKCD. Guess you didn't appeal? Here's your reversal on that warning.
On topic:
I'm not a big fan of the sidelines calls that don't account for hidden information; ie
Subforum X has gone under-moderated for Term Z
Mod R steps in to wrangle the weeds, announces intentions
User K breaches rule N, Mod R warns
User K breaches rule O, Mod R warns
User K breaches rule P, Mod R infracts
User K ragequits, community calls for Mod R's head.
It's farce. Clearly Mod R is letting the power go to his head!
Or is trying to do a good job, your mileage may vary.
It gets mad wearisome to have the vocal minority assuming the worst, though.
I think we've got this pretty much covered? Be familiar with the forum rules, and if there's still a problem, there's a remedy in place. No need to relive old arguments if Mage is satisfied.
