Dont expect them next year*aka this year*. Thats the feeling I am getting from this. The only issue I dont like from this is how long it took to get a responce to say your not doing it. The simple ignore it till it goes away isnt and didnt work. If there was no intentions of doing it and ever doing it again its better just to outright say it. If people leave from it then they are dumb for it. But the argument agaisnt it seams rather weak knowing that this didnt have to be done in a single sitting as all this can be created and left hidden and also have a template of how from the past. From someones point of view that actually works on web design and site designs for fun...its a lazy excuse/lie due to not wanting to do them.
What ever be the real reason the staff have a right to it and can see why not to do it. Just know halfassed answers and people will keep creating this thread over and over again.

Totally well said, not that anybody cares of course because theres no awards this year.

If we were doing one we would have done it by now. It takes a lot of work to set up and, as I stated previously, nobody got around to it with all the turnover we've had. It requires the setting up of a temporary subforum and the creation of several threads to take submissions, the collecting of votes from those threads and then the creation of an entirely new set of threads to vote on. That's a lot of work on top of our already fairly busy schedules.
My advice would be to come to terms with the fact that we're not doing them for last year and then put a bug in our ear towards the end of this year and maybe someone will feel like setting them up at that point.
TLDR the mods are too lazy to do it.
Like it or not, though part of your job consists in making sure the board doesn't get flooded with spam and/or abusive posters, you are doing that as part of your primary function: to facilitate discussion (and games, etc) between members of this website. If there are moderators not willing to do this, they should promptly leave their positions and be replaced by people who are willing to do this.
I'd wager that most every member here would agree with at least the reason I stated for why we have mods at all.
Like was stated already, at the very least you could install a temporary moderator to set up and deal with the "hassle" of the forum awards, and literally nothing else. Though I suppose that would be much too much effort as well? Please. I've used forum software like vBulletin before and know for a fact that if it takes no more than 5 minutes to make a member a moderator (or any other permissions level).
If more than 0.1% of this forum actually cared about the forum awards, there'd be more than just the same small handful of people posting here stamping their feet in a corner over it. Oddly enough the only people who really do care and keep hounding the mods are people who basically live in SYM for delicious e-dramas. Meanwhile, the rest of the website is functioning as usual, didn't even care to or notice the lack of forum awards and everyone else can seem to live without them or calling the staff lazy over it. Maybe you guys should take a hint and do the same now that you have an official answer and it's obviously not changing based on your whims.
As for how long it took for them to answer, ExtremeIcon already answered the question in the thread that was locked below this one. People decided to play the kid that won't take no for an answer and played dumb as if they couldn't interpret a rather clear and obvious response on the matter so they could post another thread and badger the moderators some more in hopes of getting their way.
Oddly enough it's the same people posting hounding the mods over and over for this while 95%+ of the bored doesn't seem to care. That's real incentive for them to do them, eh?
Yeah, because simply not having them to give those few people a little enjoyment, and instead disappointing them is cool too.
If the rest of the board doesn't care, then having them shouldn't affect those people anyways.
If more than 0.1% of this forum actually cared about the forum awards, there'd be more than just the same small handful of people posting here showing they actually care. A tad ironic since you are posting don't you think?
I hardly live in SYM. I tend to post about the things that matter to me, and some of the staff seemingly becoming lazy is something that bothers me. Whether or not that is true in general remains to be seen... For now it seems to be true in this case.

Haha, you do know that the majority of the forum doesn't post at all, and only looks at the rumor mill? Maybe you should do the same instead of trying to tell people off for being in the minority.
And in the history of this site, the minority's have generally won.

Why hello there mister ungrateful. You people should all take a chill pill and be happy the mods and admins are already doing what they are doing. Their job.
Silly awards are not part of their job description and since they're not even getting payed to do what they do or are in any way obligated to do what they do, it's not really up to you to tell them what to do. Get over it.
Well since you obviously know nothing of my posting history, I've always said the same thing: for the most part the staff does a great job.
Then how come when staff is chosen, you all don't pick someone with the initiative to do something like this?
You know creating a subforum and threads takes 10 mins? Collecting votes from those threads, another 20? Oh man the creation of an entirely new set of threads? 10 more.
GRAND TOTAL!!!!: 40 mins.
Porn movies last longer than that. Not that I would know, of course.
Someone would have to mod the Awards forum and its clear that no one wants to. Modding those forums is more than just keeping people in line behavior-wise but also getting them to adhere to the rules of each thread. Seriously, you can't nominate anyone who registered in 2009 for Best Newbie. No, it doesn't matter that they registered on December 31 at 11:59 pm. >.< People don't know how to follow the rules of the nomination threads and the discussion threads get cut all to hell because of all the flames and spam. I looked at the '09 awards forum and noticed there weren't alot of posts in the discussion threads when I know for a fact some of those threads were really long.
As a side note, I'd be in favor of joke awards being given out for April Fool's Day.

They probably want to give the impression that those awards were full of quality posts and no drama amirite?
I'm pretty sure that rookie of the year nominations can extend into November of the previous year.
Just so you know, I don't really care if they open up the forum awards. I'm just posting itt cause I have no other form of entertainment in my life, all the girls here are on vacation.

The minority that read SYM are the people that CARE about the site.
Sure, some of them are drama queens, but at the end of the day it's kinda that the people that read SYM are in the minority.
but at the end of the day it's kinda that the people that read SYM are in the minority.
It's not sad at all. Most people come to MTGS for spoilers and/or to discuss Magic cards, and SYM offers them neither. Simply put, the majority of visitors to this site would rather read about Magic than bickering and crying between posters.

Your 4chan trolling image aside, there are many sites that could offer them that. They come here, whether or not they know it consciously, because of the community and the job the moderator staff does.
The community of MtGS is what makes it what it is, and without it there wouldn't be a MtGS. While you are 100% correct, most people here would rather read about MtG than about community issues, much like most people in the USA would rather drive on public roads and have their kids go to pubic schools instead of going to public meetings and voting, at the end of the day its good that some people do just that. I might disagree with many of the people that post here, but I respect the fact that they care enough about the community to post about it.
You, Ambassador Laquatus, aren't even talking about the topic at hand in your post, you're just going out of your way to make fun of people that post in and about the community issues of this site.
But despite what you wrote,
I know you, Ambassador Laquatus, don't just care about MtG. You care about MtGS, as do I. And I feel that part of what sets MtGS apart from other MtG forums IS things like the forum awards where we honor that community. I respect the fact that you might disagree with me on that matter. However, what I don't respect, or really even understand, is why you would mock someone over expressing an interest in the community of this site. Why you would chastise someone for saying they care, not just about MtG, but about MtGS.
While I respect the job the staff here does, I find it a little disconcerting that this new administration of admins seem(at least on this side of the fence, not knowing what goes on in the mod part of the forum) to be adopting the policy of "ignore it until it goes away" when it comes to things that, I feel, are, and have been, important in setting MtGS apart. An example of which is the Forum Awards that are a long standing tradition on this awesome site.

And another, perhaps more relevant, matter along these lines is the ignorance of the mod problems in the Limited forum that continue to go ignored.

If you love the mods so much then why don't you marry them?
Probably because people would assume it is all part of a grand conspiracy for 15 pixels worth of trophies.
I had to marry five mods for mine. I know, I know. For shame, bigamy is a crime! *channels Cartman* "Whateva. I do what I want!"
In all seriousness though, I got mine for participating in art contests here, something that required skill and I won for said skill -not for playing nice on the interwebs. I didn't demand a glorified drama inspiring popularity contest to try and win them, which is what this all comes off as. The forum awards clearly aren't needed, or wanted by the vast majority of users here, and giving the minority what they demand isn't going to do any more than inflate egos further and open up more problems. My only question is, since it isn't going to happen, what purpose does this thread serve and why isn't it locked yet?
As for why I come in here, I don't post much anywhere, but I do like to keep up on site issues.

Well the forum awards aren't technically not wanted by the vast majority of users either. The majority of users simply either are indifferent or know nothing about them; but, from the poll, more who know about the forum awards want them to stay than those who don't (except for practically every moderator).
What makes me the most sad about all this is that it just shows that something that was once a very fun tradition on the forum has now simply become an unwanted chore.
I morn for when the yearly April Fools joke goes the same way
Yeah, because photoshop contests are totally needed?

Photoshop contests easily ran and maintained in a small corner of the forums is legitimately comparable to awards for the entire forums?
Also, I lol'd at your previous comment about having my WoW character that happens to be a Troll in the game, in my signature; It's somewhat sad how you have to cherry pick the easiest and usually most irrelevant things in posts just to try and get in some nonsensical second liner to avoid a spam infraction. With the quality of your posts I don't even know why you care about the Forum Awards so much other than being one of those lovely individuals that wants to be contrary and take a stance against "the man" for the sake of doing so; Your stakes in the awards would have to be pretty abysmal.
In before another poorly thought out post in a vein attempt at trying to turn my post around on me with little to no logic due to inability to provide any sort of smart argument other than trashy one-line jabs that make little sense.

Except you've excluded the third option of that poll: Those who don't care enough about the forum awards to vote for or against them, but would rather just say that polls don't change anything. You can't assume from a poll on who likes Peanut Butter and who likes Jelly that people like Jelly better because it gets ten more votes than Peanut Butter if all the while "neither" is a third option and it received more votes than both Peanut Butter and Jelly.

...and here we have another little microcosm of the Forum Awards drama. When every thread about the Awards turns into a troll-fest, that should tell you something about how fun it is to try and run these things.
