I'm posting this, since it is getting ridiculous. I'm not quoting names, but look at this quote below. For christ sake, this is'nt ebay where users overcharge to cover their fees. This is'nt the first time (and probably not last) I'm getting such high shipping quotations.
I charge basically double my shipping prices for International shipping other than Canada because that's what I get charged. So $3 for the first 10 cards and $2 for each 10 after that.
So I end up being told I have to pay $5 for normal shipping, for 10+ cards. The total shipping cost paid probably costs less than $2, with the cost of the padded mailer and toploaders factored in, I'm probably still being charged twice as much as the person would have paid. A same person shipped roughly the same number of cards, with padded envelope and it costs less than $2.
plus the fact that it's an extra effort for me because I can't ship it easily. I have to go in to the post office and wait in line to ship it.
When you sell your cards, you can charge your shipping prices for them.
Don't everyone have to queue in line at the post office? I do that all the time, and this person seems to imply that part of the cost is due to the fact he needs to queue. Charging $0.50-$1 extra is alright, charging more than twice of what the actual shipping fees are is'nt.
The difference is that you don't go to the post office, you make a few clicks to send me money where as I have to go to the effort of putting your package together and mailing it.
Thats part and parcel of the seller's job and responsiblity. If you are selling cards via mail, you probably need to go to a post office to send out the packages.
To the person, if you want to overcharge for shipping, do it on ebay.
For US post, you can print out the labels online and tape it to your package without needing to go to the post office. That being said, a lot of people (and stores) seem to justify their shipping prices by saying, "it requires work to package cards". You might as well identify the individual, so other buyers know to stay clear.

If you don't like the terms of the sale, don't complete the sale.
Its very simple. If I don't like the food from a restaurant, I don't eat there. If you don't like the shipping costs from an online seller, don't buy from them.

You think I bought from him even with this kind of shipping? He charges nearly twice as much as what I charge for registered shipping.
Your comparison does'nt work. How would you know the food is'nt good if you hav'nt ate it? Just by word of mouth? Everyone have a different taste.
When you ask about it, he goes:
stop preaching and buy something or quit messaging me
Any one who wants to know who he is, just drop me a pm.
Looking at USPS website:
Three ounces First-Class Mail International Package shows to be about $3.02.
Factor in top loaders, sleeves, and padded mailer and you get closer to $4.
Charging $0.50-$1 extra is alright
Looks like $5 is just about in line with what would be considered standard shipping for that many cards.
um, $5 for 10 cards to singapore from north america doesn't sound that bad. from canada it's probably around $3-4 postage.
depending on how it was packaged and it's exact weight. if you can keep it thinner it's cheaper at a point, but then you're using many more toploaders which of course makes it heavier. as opposed to 1 giant stack of cards.

What you charge for registered shipping is a lot less because your country's postal service charges a fair price for registered. USPS charges $10.80 in addition to postage for shipping, and if that's not being built into the cost of international shipping from the US, it's either because the seller is paying part of it himself or is sending without tracking. You can't figure registered shipping from the US as overcharging because USPS is the one that's greedy there, not the seller.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
Here’s a full back and forth of the messages for anyone who wants to see it. Magik is basically just being irritable that I didn’t drop what I see as reasonable shipping prices for 20 cards, not 10 as he wanted to claim in his thread.
My first message to him:
Hi, I dropped the price of City of Traitors to 9.50, but I can't drop the price of chain lightning since I'm already almost a dollar cheaper than motl value (it's at 7.75 on motl and it's only been going up). The total for everything comes to $59. If you are in Singapore, that will be $64 shipped. Let me know if you want to confirm this and I'll send you an address to send the money to.
-Richard
Let me think about the city of traitors. $5 for shipping is very steep though.
My response:
To Singapore? That's pretty standard. I charge basically double my shipping prices for International shipping other than Canada because that's what I get charged. So $3 for the first 10 cards and $2 for each 10 after that.
His Response:
Shipping costs less than $2 for that amount of cards to Singapore FYI. Add a padded mailer, its elss than $2.50, thats twice of the shipping you are charging me.
My response:
Padded mailer and top loaders add to weight (and I never ship internationally in anything less than a padded mailer), plus the fact that it's an extra effort for me because I can't ship it easily. I have to go in to the post office and wait in line to ship it. I'm sorry if you don't agree with my shipping policies, but they're pretty standard for people on here.
His Response:
Padded mailer + 20+ cards with toploaders still costs less than $2. I've no idea where you get your $5 from. I queue in line when I send my packages, whats the difference in yours that I have to pay for you to queue? And yes, someone do ship me around 20 cards everytime, with toploaders and padded envelope, and it costs less than $2.
Shall I go to usps and quote you their official postage rates before you believe it?
Thats not your shipping policy, thats overcharging for shipping.
My response:
The difference is that you don't go to the post office, you make a few clicks to send me money where as I have to go to the effort of putting your package together and mailing it.
Look, if you don't like my shipping costs, don't buy from me. It's that simple. I'm not going to sit here all day and justify what I charge to you. Plenty of people simply don't ship internationally to avoid the hassle.
When you sell your cards, you can charge your shipping prices for them. You can quote usps rates all day to me, and I know them. But I also know the effort it takes me to send things and what my time is worth. So please, commit to buy something or quit arguing with me.
His Response:
I probably send out much more packages than you do every week. Thats a part and parcel of selling, both domestic and international.
My Response (This isn’t exact because it didn’t save in my sent items, but it went something like):
Like I stated before, if you don’t like my prices don’t buy from me. Please stop preaching and buy something or quit messaging me
His response to this was to create this thread and quote me in such a way to make me look like an greedy conniving thief. I don’t appreciate libel and I figured if you want to know the actually story here you can read it yourself. Contact me if you have any questions.
Sounded fair to me. Plus, it sounded more like he just wanted to argue with you after you sent it, which is really juvenile of him (does he come after me now?)... anyways, glad to hear your side of the story.
Well your much kinder with you're shipping prices than I am. Let me give you the list of things I do when I ship internationally:
I use a bubble mailer always, because they toss around international packages like popcorn.
I use top loaders inside of the bubble mailer which adds to the weight. If it is enough cards that that is inefficient, I add about 5-10 basic land cards to each side to pad it and then wrap them in paper to protect them.
Once I've put together said package, I fill out my mail slip, and then my customs form.
Then I head over to my post office, which is in Dallas, TX, where I sit in line for on average 15 minutes because I am unable to use a kiosk to mail internationally unless I commit mail fraud and claim that it's "just documents."
Then I hold on to my little slip of receipt and hope to god that the package gets to its designated address so I don't have to explain to someone that things get lost in the mail and here's the customs # which is proof that I sent it but provides absolutely no tracking information (which of course leads to more hassles).
I applaud you for your fantastic shipping rates because honestly that's wonderfully cheap, but I do my sales my way. And like I stated many times, if someone doesn't like it, they don't have to buy from me.
I agree with magik in that some users over charge for shipping, I don't care to comment on whether rwartell and magik's position had bad shipping, its not my place, but when I want to buy an elsepth at $19 and the users charges .50 for top loaders, and then $3 for shipping and wont just put it in a toploader and en envelope, then I end up paying full price for the card and the reason I bought it was that it was cheaper, and jabberwocky, I'm from central cali and my first class mail is usually like in the $2 range with DC granted I reuse bubble mailers sent to me, but the whole point is some users do overcharge for shipping IMO
I just shipped 9 cards to Magik for $1.40-something. 8 more cards isn't adding all that much. $5 is ridiculous.
No its not I was charged by the post office over almost $5 to ship 3 cards in a bubble mailer from southern cali to new jersey....plus the bubble mailer cost me $1....

Legacy is dying
Sending anywhere but Canada, a First Class International Parcel costs 3.02 USD to ship, period. This is without customs, duties, top loaders, packaging, or anything else. 10-20 cards will always fall in the 3 oz bracket (the price quoted) in a bubble mailer.
Fresh packaging costs an additional 50 cents to a dollar (reusing is simply the price for new labels and tape) and the gas to go to a Post Office is 50 cents to a dollar.
Five dollars flat rate is very reasonable, especially since the seller is going BELOW MOTL prices. When I send internationally, I'll try to get it down to four, but it's never cheaper than that anywhere in the world.
@ rwartell: Your shipping price seems a little more reasonable when you put it that way, but IMO you're being overzealous with your card protection. One toploader inside of a little plastic card bag inside of a bubble mailer is more than enough. Also, it seems absurd to me to figure your post office time into your shipping costs. Everyone has to do that.
No its not I was charged by the post office over almost $5 to ship 3 cards in a bubble mailer from southern cali to new jersey....plus the bubble mailer cost me $1....
Either they're overcharging you or you're doing something wrong. My average bubble mailer shipping cost is somewhere around $1.80, maybe $2.
As far as bubble mailers go, recycle ones you receive or buy packages at Walmart, Office Depot, wherever. If you go that route, they cost $0.50 at the very most.
If you're paying more than 40 cents per bubble mailer, you're doing it wrong. And for all packages containing 4 or less cards divided between 2 toploaders, wrapped inside of the order sheet inside a bubble mailer stuffed with 1 packing peanut to make it thick enough for First Class postage weighs 3 oz, approximately $1.40 + .80 for DC. Using these guidelines, it's pretty obvious to identify the sellers who overcharge for shipping.
EDIT: Applies to ALL packages sent within the US, not internationally.
especially since the seller is going BELOW MOTL prices.
Why do you factor that into your shipping costs? Card prices have nothing to do with shipping. Obv this is not the first time I've gotten this expensive shipping thing.
What you charge for registered shipping is a lot less because your country's postal service charges a fair price for registered. USPS charges $10.80 in addition to postage for shipping, and if that's not being built into the cost of international shipping from the US, it's either because the seller is paying part of it himself or is sending without tracking. I never said he was using registered shipping, did I?
I use a bubble mailer always
Same for other users is'nt it?

I add about 5-10 basic land cards to each side to pad it
When you have toploaders, putting basic lands and padded with paper is your choice alone.
Then I head over to my post office, which is in Dallas, TX, where I sit in line for on average 15 minutes because I am unable to use a kiosk to mail internationally unless I commit mail fraud and claim that it's "just documents."
Don't everyone have to go to the post office and wait in line once in a while?
This reminds me of my EBay shipping policy: I see what the seller states in his terms, factor in what is reasonable to ship all of my winnings PLUS fees (and fees can get quite high), and calculate what a combined shipping invoice should look like. (many sellers do not specify combined shipping policies, for some reason)
I then see what the seller throws at me after I accumulate all of my winnings. If the seller combines to at least some degree (not fully, but somewhat), I will be happy...as I understand the fee structure...but it is painfully obvious when someone overcharges for shipping...it is disrespectful to a buyer who gives you enough consideration to not only bid up ALL of your auctions, but saves you trouble by shipping many lots to a single location.
I recently ran into a user on EBay who shall remain nameless *coughanimemancough* who did not combine shipping at all for 3 playsets, and charged $2.50 to ship each of them, to boot. When a user does this, I leave a well-deserved negative, and doing this is like giving a loyal customer who is willing to pour his wallet out to you the finger.
Magik, you are in the right, and people who prey on users with shipping to subsidize their own profits are dishonest and should "man up" and charge higher prices for their products.

I wonder how much it is to ship to Nigeria, which is where you live.
It is actually an inside joke; many people turn to me when they get scammed over EBay via PMs, as I know how most of them operate and openly offer my services to legitimate traders. I was scammed out of over 3 grand at the age of 17, and I learned every aspect of their "tricks" in an effort to get my money back (mission accomplished)...I literally have ready hundreds of articles and credit rulebooks.
Nigeria is a hotbed for fraudulent activity, and some of my IRL 'mates jokingly say I know so much about how criminals of this nature operate that I must be part Nigerian.
So yeah, for the record, I live in Nigeria, CT >_>.
I haven't traded here (I've worked on eBay and other sites), but I gotta say that I wouldn't be one of these overchargers
Sometimes, the costs need to be estimated, and I'd err slightly on my side; sometimes there's a difference, but I won't likely bother returning it unless the difference was *huge*.
the "and handling" part is real, although it can't be quantified like the postage bill can.
sometimes I round up; $3.25 in costs may be billed as $4 S&H or something
