Been listening to a lot of music going over our contest nonsense, eventually just wandering youtube as songs are suggested. Heart Shaped Box is still one of the best songs/videos ever. . . & I am a little surprised at just how much random 60s-70s-80s music I recognize, & how much 90s-00s-10s I don't

Silly old people, this gets more blatantly untrue the further you get away from popular music. I concede that most pop is crap, but in many genres themselves there are some pretty cool things going on. I mean, the whole folk metal thing like what I posted in the batcave has only started flourishing nowadays.
Daggs, Pathfinder is basically a 3rd party extension of 3.5. In the pen and paper community, there is a large rift between 3.5, 4.0, and Pathfinder, where Pathfinder thinks itself as a fixed 3.5 with new content. A lot of people are disgruntled with 4.0 because it feels really cookie-cutter and more like a video game than a roleplaying game.

Doesn't 4.0 have some sort of computer interface to work with too? Weird that the makers of D&D would get ousted by their own community. Kinda implies somebody screwed up something awful over there right? I've no idea what differences were made for between 3.5 and 4.0, but then the last time I tried D&D was with 3.0. Come to think of it, I tried a ranger then too...never got beyond level2 though.
Ranger has some weaknesses though...I ended up shooting into Melee at a damage reduction golem (while fatigued). My to hit was -1 with a max damage of 3. ...yeeaah....I gotta not suck. I think they have feats for that.
Went to FNM. Got a solid UB deck Zombie deck...with no self-mill enablers. So it was hit or miss. If I got my fast critters out, like typhoid rats and vampire interloper, then they were typically dead by the time I was ready to play my stitched drakes and Makeshift mauler...two of each.
I had a trepanation blade and undead alchemist...that was fun. I mill an average of two cards, and get a new creature. I killed by mill at least twice, with a huge hoard of zombies. Turn 3 stitched drake, turn 4 undead alchemist to get the ball rolling on that.
I ran an Army of the Damned. I've cut it almost every time in the past for being too slow, but I wanted to try it here. Never cast it, even though it was in my hand several times. Either I lost or won long before I had the required mana. I figure I'll never main deck that guy ever again.

Did a weird draft the other night... one Innistrad, one Beseiged, one M12. I ripped a Sword of Feast and Famine when I opened my third pack, went red/black, with a Balefire Dragon and some decent removal (Doom Blade) and by all intents and purposes shoulda done pretty well... went 1-2, baw. Oh well, gonna give it another go this week. I might try and hit up FNM as well but I've got a feeling I'll be working until like 9pm, can't believe it's only a week until Christmas!
Baloth...what is your real name? I've played at all those locations, though it's been some time since I played at G&S. I can probably figure out who you are.
Went to Philly for the PTQ over the weekend...what a horrible day. I opened the nuts and was passed dutz! My pile was so all over the place. It had some good cards in each color but it was so sparse that I was forced to go aggro...which did not pay off. My only real removal was in red and it was stocked full of aggro creatures. I had evasion in blue only as my white was limited. The stock of creatures was poor...nothing of any size or zing. I went 1-3...only playing that many rounds for the planeswalker points! It's all about the PWPs!
Signed up for a 8-man standard win-a-box...4 people signed up and by 5:30 I decided to just get my money back and leave!
Something has happened to the Philly PTQ'ers. They aren't showing up anymore. I can't wait until PTQs are held in local shops.

Thats an extremely weird draft, but at least you got your money worth. Too bad it didn't perform any better.
Played another D&D game. Tier 5-6....which apparently means level 1 players die. Now I know its suppose to be all imagination and story telling, and I don't need to be the lead character. But I don't care to be the comic relief.
Basically I was told to stay back and let the grown ups do all the work. In five hours I shot 10 arrows...and hit 3 time....maybe doing a total of 15 damage. I got bit by a dog once, and nearly died. ....The best I did throughout the game was assist a monkey with disabling devices. Yes, a monkey, I think it did more damage than me throughout the game too.
...stupid monkey, borrowing my tools. ....wish I had a monkey.
Well off to vegas tomorrow. Might get there in a few days.

[The Crafters]
*** Ah, [The Crafters]. Did you know that less than a year ago, this clan was on the verge of collapse and closure? Back then, [The Crafters] were known as [ImageCrafters+] and mostly focused their attention on artwork, like where they could display their Pictures at an Exhibition, or their love of foodstuffs—especially baked goods like CAKE! Well, before this clan would be closed down, a particular Big Butter and Egg Man From the West known as Kankennon, decided that he wasn’t going to let that happen—he was Going the Distance! {Note: The band Cake and Kank are both from Sacramento. Coincidence?} Well, this Kank guy searched high and low throughout the humor and games threads trying to recruit every person he thought would be a good fit for the clan. Joining on at the last minute to keep the clan afloat was patredwood (now known as ThatRedwood, the brewmeister), Aurora Illumina (you might know her--She's Crafty), and Moss_Elemental (MTGS is definitely his Addiction). These fine folks joined with the holdouts Slavan K. Guiser, Zith, and Kankennon to form an all-new clan, [The Crafters]! Since then, the clan has exploded and taken on a whole plethora of new creative talents, from Syphon to Kronik, from pet snake to Wheat_Grinder and jomafro, and even our newest members pi-ratical and vligerdragon. Now this clan is Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger than ever before, and is the true Rebirth of Slick. At [The Crafters], It's a Great Day to Be Alive, simply because we were truly Born to Be Alive! This here clan of ours is more creative than ever before! We are now filled with authors and Paperback Writers, artists and musicians, chefs and bakers, you name it. If it’s anything creative, it falls into our territory. You know what, we’re going to bake a cake in celebration of a successful year, so grab a Spoonman and dish out some of that Sugar Sweet so we can have our cake and Eat It too! After that cake’s been ate and Them Belly Full (But We Hungry), we are then even more driven to create more, write more, and bake more—it just doesn’t stop! Sure, we spend a lot of time Goofin Around, but we do get stuff done, and sure, beauty and humor may be in the Eye of the Beholder, but anything, yes anything can be creative, tasty, funny, and/or beautiful when you live in a world of Pure Imagination!
We leave you with this parody written by our very own Syphon, to the tune of Still Alive by Jonathon Coulton (which came in a close second place in its category):
Our clan is a triumph. I'm making a note here: huge success. It's hard to overstate my satisfaction. We are the Crafters. We craft what we must, because we can. For the good of all of us, except the ones who are dead.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake We just keep on trying 'till we run out of cake Then Kankennon makes some more, and we'll have cake like before for the people who are still alive.
People like Mossy who is an elemental Or people like Aurora who always floats And folks like Slavan K. who is also known as Guiser As they craft it hurts because I am happy they do it.
Now look at Jomafro the hatpimp putting hats on everyone in sight In 2012 we'll craft even more than before Think of all the things we made for the people who are still alive.
Go ahead and leave us I think we prefer to craft some more Maybe you'll find someone else to craft with Maybe House Dimir That was a joke, ha-ha, fat chance
Anyway, this cake is great, it's so delicious and moist Look at me still talking when there's crafting to do When I look in the clans thread it makes me glad I'm not you
I have programs to run, there is crafting to be done for the Crafters who are still alive
Believe me, Kank is still alive Thatredwood is still alive Kronik and Wheat_Grinder are still alive While you're not crafting the Crafters will be still alive still alive
The audio and video are out of sync, but the song is still brilliant. We are the backdoor slam. We are the dust in other clans broom, we are the cracks in their ceiling, the thump they think they hear.
Tiger Rag is one of the first published "Jass" tracks, as the Called is the one of the original clans from pre-Salve days. Louie loved tearing this song up to show off; this is his possé playing a slow version.
Symbolic of the tenure of our clan, the trials & tribulations we've all faced both personally & together, & how far we've come down this road together.
Warning: Contains Country music which some might find offensive.
1001 nights is objectively a story about passion, creativity, & tenacity, just like us; this particular piece is about a prince choosing to wander the Earth rather than sit in a lofty tower.
Warning: Contains Classical music which some might find offensive.
Rumor has it the songs on this album are all supposed to be from the perspective of various mental patients. This one is about obsessing, taking risks, & being wildly passionate about doing what you want to do.
The flavor of our clan involves a progression of ranks: High Mages oversee Acolytes who oversee Apprentices who oversee Test Subject (aka new members). We keep up the impression of an Izzet experimental laboratory, complete with exploding :cookie:'s and sneaky :sneakybread:. The Weirds do the menial work.
We're always in for new members and fun. Our colors are Blue and Red, and we fly them proudly. We are thinkers and dreamers. We stop what we don't want to happen, and burn down the rest, sometimes singeing ourselves in the process. We don't mind. Its all in the name of progress.
1) Hip-Hop:Love the Way you Lie (Part 2) -- Rihanna ft. Eminem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2B50RUXbs-8
Beautiful song about an ugly relationship. Chosen for the verse line about "Just gonna stand there and watch me burn..." Also notice, not the Radio version. This is a Rihanna song, with a splash of Eminem.
2) Rap:White and Nerdy -- "Weird Al" Yankovic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9qYF9DZPdw
Eh, look around. Where are we again? Also many of the activities described in the lyrics fit.
5) Reggae:STOP IT -- Red Dragon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WF2CyLRdcQE
"Permission" spells are blue, artist goes by "Red Dragon", and video game samples are mixed in: what's not to love?
7) Jazz:Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea -- Louis Armstrong http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ue9jgShMOz8
Satchmo cannot be denied!! And the title is :evillol:color-evocative.:crying:
10) Country:Standing Outside the Fire (Live Version) -- Garth Brooks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOQzqX1Ehok
Inspirational song, awesome message, and very, very Izzet way of thinking.
I talked Daggs through the mountains last night. It was fun.
I'm not sure about D&D. I seem to join those games constantly only to be the first one to forget about them. I could try again, but I am not sure why there would be any difference in the result.
I have been trying o stay out of here, but sometimes I see stuff that is hard to pass up commenting in here. That being said, I am also very excited to see the NBA get back to actually playing basketball. It was looking grim for a while there.
I followed the Hornets when I was in junior high, but solely because a girl I liked went for them. In the rare instance that care about basketball, I go for the Mavericks, solely because I like Mark Cuban. I have weird reasons for all of my favorite sports teams.
Hi! My name is Silent Prophet. You may remember me from threads such as "We never decided what the thread should be [Called]", "If [Called] by a Panther, Don't Anther", and "If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still [Called] a hearing?".
Long story short, my account got stolen. password and stuff got changed. I was going to pm admins to get it fixed, but then my mom's health took a drastic turn for the worse. Like, blood coming out of places it shouldn't be worse. I then used the fact that I didn't have access to my account as an excuse not to post so I could deal with rl stuff. Then a strange thing happened; I entered into a relationship. So that took up even more of my time. I was talking to rianalnn and Yukora on AIM tonight and realized just how much I missed you guys. Yes, even Talore. So, once I figure out whether I want the Silent Prophet name back or if I want to make a change, I'll be back for good. I am using this account because it is an old gimmick account that I had forgotten about until I started replaying Dragon Age. One of my rogues was named Rax, and it reminded me of this account. I'll explain more once I figure out how to get to the batcave again. I don't want all of that **** in public yet.
Long story short; bad **** happened, worse **** happened, good **** happened, then I missed everyone. The end.
What the **** is up with this red type? Looks hideous.
HA! Every time I hit Preview Post, it adds another color tag to my post.
I gotta admit...I think the NBA is just a group whining thug millionaires that cry about every little change they have to endure. There isn't anything pure about the sport at that level and the officiating is some of the most horrific in professional sports. The rules say you can't take more than 2 steps without bouncing the freakin ball. That means 3 steps or more....(5-step-shaq) is traveling....NEVER CALLED!
That being said...very happy to see SP back in the saddle. I was beginning to wonder if you still existed outside of Facebook there brotha!
Not Rax...

On an unrelated note, here is my list of my 10 favourite albums this year:

Battles - Gloss Drop
Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
Kanye West/Jay-Z - Watch The Throne
Kurt Vile - Smoke Ring For My Halo
Deerhoof - Deerhoof Vs. Evil
edit: reading over the last few posts...
I agree that the idea of music post-1999 being **** is completely untrue and very misguided. There is some absolutely amazing stuff happening in all genres right now, especially in pop music - Korean pop music has become ridiculously good over the past couple of years and Japanese pop artists are constantly innovating and bettering themselves. In the West there is great stuff too, now that "indie" pop is gaining more mainstream significance but I have to admit most American top 40 pop IS trash. Experimental music has also experienced a similar upsurge since the end of the 20th century - Tim Hecker, Emeralds, Treetops, **** Buttons, Dolphins Into The Future, OOIOO, Gang Gang Dance, the list goes on and on. I think the 2000s is my favourite era of music, by far.
Daggs: I should have said, I didn't get to keep the sword. In drafts here, we re-draft the rares/mythics. Otherwise you get *******s who rip great packs and then drop after the first round and take their rares.
I agree that the idea of music post-1999 being **** is completely untrue and very misguided.
I actually agree too, I just have come to realize that I'm fairly out of the loop – there is so much good music out there that I have not heard, even just talking about popular bands. I've just kind of stopped following any trends or bands or anything, & just look for songs or albums that I like & throw away what I don't, a completely different approach to how I used to listen to music, & what I would notice about the music scene.
Electronic music has come soooo far, for instance. I remember when Portishead appeared & people were like, WHOA Now there's just so many bands that do what P did/does, & arguably, some of them even do it better.
ninja edit – hey guys, Reya is going to be on the radio tomorrow morning (10:30am my time, 10.5 hours from now ). There's a digital broadcast, you can pick it up here – http://radio.adelaide.edu.au/listenonline/ ; she'll be talking about her photography practice, so have a listen if you're interested.
I may have to check out this Portishead band endorses.. Wish I could've heard the broadcast, I bet Reya has one of those sexy lady-ausy voices.
I'm not gonna bash post-millennia bands, I just don't listen to the radio and find the bands I grew up with in the 90's sufficient. Most what I have heard does suck though..

Got what I asked for at Xmas: Gravity's Rainbow by Pynchon and The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoyevsky. Plus gift cards. It was hard coming up with a list...when I was younger I wanted so much junk. Mighty Max, Transformers toys....gone are the days when Christmas was a magical event, but I think growing older actually makes the holiday more important(lame, but hear me out) mostly because you're with family you don't see as much. With that said, I was happy to fly home today where the weather is 40 degrees warmer. Hope everyone else enjoyed their holiday. Speaking of D&D, y'all should mosey on down to the Pen and Paper Inn, link in my sig. We're trying to get it fired up again and get some games starting, it may interest you. Maybe Yukora would like to play if there's a lull in admin work?
I was given tacky blue text by my name and now I have moderator tools in that forum... that half the clan has had at one point or another
I may peek in there but virtual pizza just isn't the same
Music contest has moved on to judging! It's going down in the batcave but I'm hotlinking the entries here in case it will entice some of you clowns to come share your ideas with those of us in the salt mine INNN THE MIIIIINE ♪
If it does:
+1 The song fits genre
+2 Bonus best/most creative submission for that genre (one Clan per genre)
-1 Duplicate entries (duplicate would be the same song by the same artist that another clan submitted, therefore you could submit a different song by the same artist OR a cover by another band and it would be all good)
[Pack] and [Merchant's Guild] did not submit anything.

[The Crafters]
Ah, [The Crafters].
{Note: The band Cake and Kank are both from Sacramento. Coincidence?}
Well, this Kank guy searched high and low throughout the humor and games threads trying to recruit every person he thought would be a good fit for the clan.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake
We just keep on trying 'till we run out of cake
Then Kankennon makes some more,
and we'll have cake like before
for the people who are still alive.
People like Mossy
who is an elemental
Or people like Aurora
who always floats
And folks like Slavan K.
who is also known as Guiser
As they craft it hurts because I am happy they do it.
Now look at Jomafro the hatpimp
putting hats on everyone in sight
In 2012 we'll craft
even more than before
Think of all the things we made
for the people who are still alive.
Go ahead and leave us
I think we prefer to craft some more
Maybe you'll find someone else to craft with
Maybe House Dimir
That was a joke, ha-ha, fat chance
Anyway, this cake is great,
it's so delicious and moist
Look at me still talking
when there's crafting to do
When I look in the clans thread
it makes me glad I'm not you
I have programs to run,
there is crafting to be done
for the Crafters who are still alive
Believe me,
Kank is still alive
Thatredwood is
still alive
Kronik and Wheat_Grinder are
still alive
While you're not crafting
the Crafters will be still alive
still alive

Yelawolf – Pop the trunk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9iin93RV1Y

Warning: Contains language some might find offensive.
Rap
Kendrick Lamar – Rigamortis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yh6QxtRpSH8

Dubstep
Ganja White Night – Blueberry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsoyHEZiIm0

Alternative Rock
The Killers – Leave the Bourbon on the Shelf http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjHnk4vO8Zo

Blues
Robert Cray – Back door slam http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVbaSNRB4PE
The audio and video are out of sync, but the song is still brilliant. We are the backdoor slam. We are the dust in other clans broom, we are the cracks in their ceiling, the thump they think they hear.
Jazz
Louis Armstrong – Tiger Rag http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJ0YNaK5tAU
Tiger Rag is one of the first published "Jass" tracks, as the Called is the one of the original clans from pre-Salve days. Louie loved tearing this song up to show off; this is his possé playing a slow version.

Rimsky-Korsakov – Scheherazade.ii the Story of the Kalander Prince http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KUibVDD4yA

We're always in for new members and fun. Our colors are Blue and Red, and we fly them proudly. We are thinkers and dreamers. We stop what we don't want to happen, and burn down the rest, sometimes singeing ourselves in the process. We don't mind. Its all in the name of progress.
1) Hip-Hop: Love the Way you Lie (Part 2) -- Rihanna ft. Eminem
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2B50RUXbs-8

I'm not sure about D&D. I seem to join those games constantly only to be the first one to forget about them. I could try again, but I am not sure why there would be any difference in the result.
I contemplated getting Yahtzee a santa hat, but I figured that would just be too big of a pain in the ass. Plus, I've had this avatar for years.
Sweet man thanks!
I'm all about some Christmas spirit. Though to be honest I'm almost more excited for the NBA season to start on the 25th than the presents
@kpaca, who do you follow?

Good to see ya in here, SP's gimmick!
I support Heat, but I have been for years so its not like I'm some fanboy following because of the current all stars.
Also, why are the nicks signing a has been?
LOL
That being said...very happy to see SP back in the saddle. I was beginning to wonder if you still existed outside of Facebook there brotha!
Not Rax...
On an unrelated note, here is my list of my 10 favourite albums this year:
Jens Lekman - An Argument With Myself
2NE1 - 2nd Mini Album
Beirut - The Rip Tide
Yelle - Safari Disco Club
Lady Gaga - Born This Way
Battles - Gloss Drop
Tried my new build Fri night. Did better than I thought, but not great yet.

Several people on the site know just how much I like Battles. There is even a user on this site named Battles.
That's a real nice present!
Do you still listen to LCD Soundsystem? If so, I can recommend some other, similar stuff. By the way, why are you never on AIM anymore?
I still have two weeks off before teaching resumes...got to make a new syllabus, among other things.
