In fact I only played two spells in the game I beat it, winning on turn 5.
Wow! That's pretty good... uh, I can't even think how to do that off the top of my head!
(Like you I require extreme provocation to draft monored. It's one of my least favourite Cube archetypes.)

I was preparing food during that draft, so I felt having some time between rounds would be good. In fact I missed p1p1, then in the second pack I saw Goblin Guide and just went for it.
The t5 kill with two spells: the first one was Goblin Guide, which (on the play) just dealt 4 damage before the Knight came down. The second one?
You really just need to embrace the rage. I keep a small colony of hamsters next to my computer and every time I lose a match to mana screw I throw one against the wall.
Ha - nice! I thought of Dragonlord - that was the card that persuaded me to switch to monored - but I forgot about the pump ability as max level. Don't think I've ever used it!

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been around! University has been keeping me really busy.
I went to GP Melbourne in February after going to GP KL. I started out hot on 4-0 with Azorius Weenie, then played 3 RG Monsters decks in a row and lost, so no day 2 for me! I played BG Dark Times in the Vintage side event on day 2 and went 5-1 into top 8, then lost in the quarters to Dredge. I got a pack of Italian Legends for my trouble, which was cool. Nothing good in it, though!
A week later I played Fish at a Legacy event with 4 Polluted Delta as the 1st place prize, and went 3-1-1 into top 8, and yet again lost in the quarter finals to Junk Maverick. A week after that, I played a $500 sealed tournament and made the top 8 with a solid GW pool (I had Spear of Heliod and Bow of Nylea with some really aggressive midrange creatures, curving out at Ornitharch and Evangel of Heliod), then drafted a beautiful RB deck with 2 Kragma Warcaller, 2 Fall of the Hammer, a Spiteful Returned, and lots of aggressive minotaurs. I lost in the quarters again, of course, because I overthought an attack in basically the last turn of the game and it cost me the round. Oh well!
I played a Born of the Gods/Theros sealed PTQ yesterday. I had a pretty solid deck with lots of creatures and four bombs - Herald of Torment, Whip of Erebos, Nighthowler, and Graverobber Spider... but no removal. I went 3-1-2 in the end, losing in round, which was unfortunate, because a win there would have got me in to top 8. Oh well! Next big event for me is probably GPTs for GP Sydney then GP Sydney itself.
Wow, that's a lot of top-8s and near top-8s! Good stuff!

Yesterday, I finally finished and printed out the first copy (of four needed) of a 230 page, single-spaced portfolio I've worked on for the past year to regain my teaching certification. I'm just so exhausted by the whole process, and now I get to wait for the state to set up a panel review, where I will defend my competence and, I expect, earn my credentials back. I haven't even cared all that much about Magic recently, aside from GP Montreal (for which I didn't prepare at all anyway), so I'm pretty happy that Theros block sucks as much as it does.
If Journey changes that, at least I'll have the time to dedicate to playing a little more, but I doubt I'll care enough to do anything other than carpool to a PTQ with friends, only to X-2 drop due to not really putting my all into it. It's been pretty dead around here lately, which I'm guessing is a function of everyone simply doing other things while they wait for a new block to shove Theros to the curb, once and for all.
The sad thing for me is that I didn't hate TTT all that much. BTT is a nightmare, though, and I have very little faith that Journey will be able to fix it. But hey, as Journey says, "don't stop believing". On that note, it's time for me to start perusing the spoilers and try to uncover as many Journey puns as possible. It's going to be pretty obnoxious to everyone else at whatever prerelease I play when I start to sing "just a small town girl" about any female creatures I play.

"Journey in Tonics" was my suggestion to the Rumor Mill guys who wanted a new upcoming set-related custom title for each rumor season
But yeah, I agree with you @ Theros block. I'm more into Constructed than Limited these days, which should indicate something about my opinion on the format. For the record, that hasn't been the case since early '06. This will also probably be the first year since '06 that I won't attend any GPs, and also the first time since '04 that I'm voluntarily skipping a prerelease. We'll see though. But yes, I'm a little unhappy with the state of Limited Magic these days, with the exception of Modern Masters, which was an excellent format, but we didn't get to play it much.
Luckily, we have TPF on Modo right now, so that's sweet, but that'll only last a few more days... But four drafts done so far, and haven't dropped a match yet! I almost lost the final of one when I failed to draw a green source in my R/G deck until I had 22 cards left in my library, but as it turned out, that was just in time, since I had Sprout Swarm in hand. I would have died next turn if I hadn't drawn it, but Sprout Swarm is a good card. Not even his Timbermare was good enough to finish me off then.
Also, Jodah's Avenger has ambushed multiple shadow creatures so far
So Beyond Earth just got announced, as the "sequel" to Civ 5, coming out in the fall. Anyone else excited? It means there'll be another great game in the Civ series...someday. After two or three years of patches, the beta will end and they'll release the actual game. I wonder what it'll be called?
Not that I have a problem with studios fixing their games post-release. I wish more companies were as willing to do such complete overhauls when they make bad games. I just wish they wouldn't release the fix as an expansion with a brand new price tag. Yeah I'm a little bitter. :/
I'm more into Constructed than Limited these days, which should indicate something about my opinion on the format.
What. Is. This. Sorcery?
I heard this rumor after a friend went to the awful PTQ held in Oslo but i couldn't quite believe it. This doesn't happen very often!
On another note; I've been playing a bit of cube lately and i'm really enjoying playing with Power. I'll be the first to say that some games are a bit lopsided and can be a bit frustrating, but it's so much fun when you get to play some absurd archetype like Grixis Welder. I think i need to myself a "The Abyss" though, i hadn't thought of playing the card until recently, but it seems super powerful in a planeswalker control strategy. Not sure about it yet though. Anyway getting one of those will have to wait as my pimping sickness has been influencing me recently. I finished my set of power last summer so now i'm finishing some foil pimping for my vintage deck, which hasn't been cheap. If i don't end up using the cards they'll be cube cards anyway. Which leads me to the other pimping sickness. I started out picking up some small fnm foils and suddenly i want all the FNM foils. Foiling and cube goes hand in hand with a bank account with no money!
Legacy has been good to me lately netting me two firsts and a third with Jund, Storm and High Tide. Borrowed High Tide the other day and went on a real 2-0 heater until the semi's where i played terribly and lost because of it, which was absolutely justice so it was fine.
I've considered purchasing a copy of The Abyss for my cube too (it's a really excellent card), but 1) it costs $150-ish, 2) control strategies are already fairly dominant in my cube, and don't need the additional help, at least not until I've found a way to improve the beatdown strategies.
I like foiling my cube too when I randomly find cards for it, but I don't care for FNM foils (or other promos) unless they're old frame, and I'd much rather have a regular copy than a From the Vault one, for example.
Anyway, much as I don't care for the current Limited format, this weekend's GP was commentated by Ben Stark, which might as well mean I'm chained in front of the computer. Absolutely top notch insight, a real treat. It was the same during the previous weekend, when LSV & Huey did the commentating. Also, funny thing, Huey top 8'ed this GP, but didn't get any pro points for it (other than to his lifetime tally), since he already had maxed out on GP top 8s this season. Pretty sick.
I wish PTQs weren't so enjoyable with a bunch of friends in tow. I really dislike this format, but there's a PTQ down the street from my house on Saturday, and I'm meeting a bunch of friends there. Shrug, I guess I'll have to bank on opening a better pool than I tend to, or else I'll have driven a whole 2 miles to the event site for NOTHING!
I just loaded up Hearthstone again, though, and I'm enjoying the reminder of how an awful arena deck can win on the back of good 2, 3, and 4 drops and basically nothing else.

Hearthstone is full of good 4-drops, though. It's hard to draft a deck without them. Good 3-drops, on the other hand, are indeed the key to victory. Twos fall somewhere in between, depending on what class you are.
PS. Start saving your gold now, since the first expansion is going to have gold-or-real-money unlockable stages.

I'll be sad if people don't start calling The Chain Veil "Fleetwood Mac."
Olivier Ruel is such a genuinely nice guy. Second time I've played him in as many weeks, and I beat him both times, and both times he's been super nice and complimenting. Very refreshing.
Hey guys! I am in a Born of the Gods Champ Qualifier and opened a pool with a really obvious aggressive RB deck. Attachment 1 is what I submitted and won round 1 with. However I am very tempted to side into attachment 2 at some point. I have never seen a sealed deck (or draft deck even) so close to being able to cast Chromanticore. Can someone talk me out of it :).
Well that was fun :). I went 4-0 with the RB deck which was what I needed to qualify for the championships. Then in the 5th round I lost game 1 so I figured what do I have to lose so sided into the monstrosity above and won the next two games both with a bestowed Chromanticore. Opponent could not believe what was happening.
Cube is back on Magic Online... Pulled off a rather fun play: Opponent tries to stick a threat to the empty board - I'm U/G so he figures I might have a counter, but he can probably draw it out with something non-critical. I counter with Mystic Snake, then EOT Mystical Tutor fetching Natural Order, then untap and put Simic Sky Swallower into play!

Yay, cube is back. Won one today with UBg Kiora Shackles control. Nothing completely busted, just Coalition Relic and solid mana. My opponent Eureka'd a bunch of permanents into play, but his Lodestone was Doomed when his Kozilek slipped tragically, that was kind of funny.

I'd choose black. Black is the most fun color in Theros block, IMO.
Myself, I wasn't planning to even go to the prerelease, but then a friend of mine wanted to team up and play 2HG. So I'm doing that. Almost assuredly getting a combination of blue and black (wouldn't mind black-black), as those are the most fun colors & those promos seem fairly insane in 2HG.
They were out of B and W when I showed up, so I went with G and cracked Broodmother Hydra in my seeded pack, then got a Dictate of Erebos and a Whip of Erebos. Had a couple of the 2/1 ramp fawns, some less conventional enchantment ramp, an Asp, 2 doom bladesPharika's Chosen, as well as some other goodies. However, the real shiner of the night was Nyx Weaver, netting me anything from a land to any of my bombs while putting in damage and/or stalling. One game I won by grabbing a Cavern Lampad after knocking my opponent to two, and another I got to Whip the Weaver then exile it post combat to return a Mortal's Resolve to protect my oversized Heroes Bane. Overall, it was a pretty fun night, and having 4 very playable rares in a deck was probably more enjoyable than it should have been. I split first with a friend and shipped my packs to players for $2 each, so I made my money back and then some. Plus, I grabbed two of the Grixis EDH decks with True Name and Baleful Strix for MSRP.
