I remember when Morphling was blue's go to win condition. MTG has evolved so much since then and I'm curious how well it's held up over time, especially this format. I never really see it in decks, so is it not relevant anymore or does Morphling still get there in edh?
Even if damage still stacked, I doubt Morphling would be good enough in EDH. A creature you have to keep mana up for just to make it a 5/5 shroud? Meh.
I generally advise against using creatures that are only good as beatsticks. Morphling's utility is somewhat limited and I certainly wouldn't advise using it as your way of getting there given the better alternatives that exist.

Epochalyptik from http://tappedout.net/ EDH isn't about what you play, it's about who you play with.
Morphling has gradually gone from the best creature of all time, to nothing special, to completely unplayable.
If you want a similar finisher that is much better, try Sphinx of Jwar Isle. It has flying, shroud, and five power without having to spend mana every turn.
Screw all of you. I play Morphling because he kicks ass and I can.

Better alternatives have come around that are both faster and stronger.
Without stacking combat damage, morphling isn't a vigilant, 5/5, shroud creature with flying anymore.
Aggro decks nowadays actually have creatures that are 2-4 CMC that will kill Morphling in combat without a significant mana commitment. On his own, he's a 3/3, which might be big compared to 2-3 drop aggro creatures when he was new, but is now small.
In blue, new options have appeared that are generally better than him - Vedalken Shackles, Deadeye Navigator, various sphinxes that can be named, etc. The best reason to use the creature is for novelty value.
Screw all of you. I play Morphling because he kicks ass and I can.
That's certainly aggressive of you.
More power to ya for running what you want, and all that. No joke.
But seriously, that's quite the aggressive way to put that, and you aren't even teasing or anything (I might say something similar, but I'd use a tongue smiley to make sure people understood I'm just joking around).

Morphling, while really cool and part of Magic's history, just sucks nowadays.
Don't kid yourself. Morphling stopped mattering well before then. Spending 6 mana per turn to make it act like a 5/5 in combat had gone from "awesome" to "quaint" long before M10 came out.
He still has amazing style points. I sort of wish they would reprint him as a legend because I think his versatility would make a decent blue control legend. Still... I have to agree that in general he is extremely outclassed and has been for some time.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.

I have to disagree with you on this point spending mana on others peoplesturn is the hallmark of blue you mean I can spen 6 mana and keep Boomerang in hand and mantain more cards in hand than you yes please.
He died (as did a little piece of my soul) when they took damage of the stack. While we are talking aboutit, and because I am still a little bitter about it, GIVE ME BACK MANA BURN. You should be able to count to play Magic.
Morphling is one of those creatures that I will always have an irrational soft spot for, same with it's twin, Torchling. I love those cards. As far as being useful, echoing what people have said, not usually, especially with the way damage works now, but they can still be useful in certain situations! I think like most cards it can come down to what sort of deck you are playing, if you have anything that can play off of his abilities (Kraj for example), and even what sort of stuff your opponents are playing.

I was always a big fan of Thornling more so that Torchling I used to run Thorn and Morph in my BUG deck such good utility creatures.

Yeah, but Thornling doesn't really feel the same as Torch and Morph, those two are very similar just in appearance, which kind of always made me like them together. Yeah, the abilities aren't the best anymore, but Torch can actually still be fairly useful with his redirect ability.

In competitive magic, Morphling was officially pronounced DOA when Odyssey came out, and Psychatog with it. Tog was part of competitive decks after that which were capable of dealing with the goblin menace (Read: GAT) that Onslaught block introduced. Gobs will kick the **** out of any U/B deck that isn't dedicated combo or lacks main deck goblin hate.
Blue, as a color, has always coasted off the back of the other colors having a ***** of a time trying to interact with it combined dramatically better card quality and color mechanics. Morphling just isn't dramatically better card quality anymore, and spending 6 on combat tricks when you could just play better creatures with better abilities than him isn't something that the mana hungry color of power and efficiency cares for.
Morphling is really cool, just not really good. Good 5/5 creatures bash into him and result in blank stares and scrambles for mana, while triggered abilities generate CA that morphling is powerless to stop or fight back against. Aggro decks rely on several creatures getting there, and are packed to the gills with equipments that will automatically make their bearers better than Morphling, no matter how awful a creature they are beforehand.
Being cool and useless is a bit of an oxymoron, really.
I don't think so. You can love a card, therefore think it's cool, but understand that it completely and utterly blows. Like Taste of Blood, for me. I love the card and think it's sick, but I understand it's a **** piece of cardboard xD.
It's got conditional shroud and you can untap it for only U. There's still a use for it, just not as a beater. Alot of decks like to use/abuse creatures that can untap easily, and Morphling's still alot better than Horseshoe Crab.
Obliterator's just a card out of time, really. It'd fit in a monoblack deck that's no longer viable, much like Phyrexian Negator did before.
Ridiculous! I ran Phyrexian Obliterator successfully in Standard soon after it came out. Everyone thought it was crap, so nobody was prepared for it. The card is obviously overflowing with potential.

Still, it's superman. That's enough to get it into my decks on occasion.
He's great if you can get an Elemental Mastery, Quicksilver Dagger, or Splinter Twin on him.
Power of Fire, Arcane Teachings, Lightning Prowess, Hypervolt Grasp, Malicious Intent, and Flame Fusillade are also decent.
Basically, put it in a deck with red that really likes Auras and pinging and it might be worth the deck slot.
