A few months ago my local card store had an EDH tournament before I had an EDH deck so I didnt show up dammit. I recently started playing EDH and it's so much fun, plus everyone at that store plays it.
I asked if they were going to do more EDH tournaments, and the guy who works there said no, because they didnt know how to score it so they came up with a points system but everyone wound up complaining about it so it lost the store money. If I come up with a way to score the tournament and people at the store like it, maybe they will do another tournament though.
So for EDH tournaments you've been to at card stores, how do they score it? Ideally it will be multiplayer but how does it work-10 points for a kill? 20 points last man standing? Thanks yalls!
I don't know if this is how it's usually done, but if we start with ~20 people, we'll just play 4 groups of 5 or 5 groups of 4, and have "the last men standing" duke it out with the last man standing winning, second last coming in second, etc.
Really, you can't just have "who killed who," because gimping would be extremely prevalent.
Per table win = 5 points
Per kill with a General = 5 points
If you placed second at your table = 3 points
everyone else = 1 point
These points were racked up over a period of 3 weeks. At the end of which the 4 people with the highest point total entered into a four player free for all. The winner of this four person free for all won some sort of prize.
Unfortunately my store did not charge an entry fee for our EDH events, as such the prizes were never really any good, thus the incentive to participate in these events died off really quickly and the actual event died off just as quickly.
But while it lasted it was certainly my personal favorite event held at the store, and I am constantly trying to get people interested in EDH!

(Assuming Five Players)
Last place/Fourth: 2 Points
Third: 4 Points
Second: 6 Points.
First: 10 Points.
Each weekend, we play two games. We then accumulate the points and top 3 gets a small weekly prize with the consolation prize (FNM foils).
At the end of the month, the Top 4 get a bigger prize. Usually 50$ to first, 25 to Second, and 12.50 to 3rd/4th. Which can be a payoff since you get free foils every day.
The one I played at Carnage Con last year was fortunate enough to get exactly 20 players so we split up into four groups of five where the winner of one table would move on to the winner's table where they would than play the finals with the other winners. It was fine for what it was, but it was definitely short. For more rounds using multi-player, I'm really not sure.

I like this idea. It sort of reminds me of "brillancy prices" that one can win in chess tournaments for making a really amazing move.
