Anyway... thanks for this, really helpful
I was just wandering if the pictures are supposed to display, because mine don't show. Is that a bug or is this release just pictureless?
Thank you in advance!

Cockatrice grabs its images from Gatherer (usually the most recent edition of the card). obviously, it can't use Gatherer for Dark Ascension since that's not out yet.
Take your monoblack deck, then set aside 14 swamps. Add 4 Creeping Tar Pits, 4 Darkslick Shores, 4 Drowned Catacombs, and 2 Jwar isle Refuge and add 4 Jace, the Mindsculptors. Your monoblack deck is instantly better. Better yet, drop those refuges, throw in some islands and some mana leaks, and lo and behold, you're now playing a real deck. Congratulations. Welcome to the world of competitive M:TG.

Originally, I had them set to be pictureless (because most of it was transform or stuff like heavy mattock). Now it's not.

It also grabs them from a site called chutography, but only for high-resolution pics. I had originally used that in the hopes that they would get pictures soon, but for some reason it never occurred to me that the set would have to be released before chutography could get pictures for it).
Anyone know when the full set will by on cockatrice?
Just got it up. I noticed that some fo the cards don't have pictures, so sadly Elbrus will have to wait until the official release for it to get a picture.
EDIT: Lol, within a minute or so, it got a couple downloads.
Step 1: Make sure Cockatrice is closed. Step 2: Put cards.xml into /Program Files/Cockatrice/ Step 3: Put the DKA folder into /Program Files/Cockatrice/pics/downloadedPics/ Step 4: Start up Cockatrice and get testing!
A tip from Kithas - To anyone using Windows 7/Vista: when you replace the cards.xml in your Cockatrice folder, make sure to hit compatibility files and replace the one that appears after that as well. You should also do this with the downloadedPics folder.
I followed the instructions and it is telling me that access is denied in the file when I try to save it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get around this?
Here's what I did:
1.) Downloaded both files
2.) Unrar'd DKA pics
3.) Placed cards.xml in Program files/ Cockatrice and replaced the old one
4.) Placed DKA pics into the pics folder. (Note: in the pics folder there wasn't a downloadablepics folder.)
I'm not getting any effect from those files. I opened up the cards.xml and, yes, the new ones are there, but when I open Coc with everything in place and go to deck editor the new cards simply aren't there.
Aside: is it weird my pics folder was empty? I have to add downloadedpics manually. Probably due to always having the download pics from online as needed on.
btw a note to anyone using windows 7, when you replace the cards.xml in your cockatrice folder make sure to hit compatibility files and replace the one that appears after that as well(this is also the pics folder you need to drop DKA into), both need to be altered for this to work properly.
That said thanks guys!

That fixed it. What part of 'move and replace' does windows 7 not understand?
how does one create this XML file to begin with? is it possible to edit custom cards into the file and thus be able to have the cards you made available?
also says zero cards imported, what am i doing wrong?

the fact that there are actually 2 different files? I replaced one and when you do view combatibility files there are completely different files there.

To anyone getting this sort of error:
Open Cockatrice's settings and find the "pictures directory", and also check "download pics on the fly". In that folder should be the downloadedPics folder (if not, make it). Then, put the DKA folder into the downloadedPics folder.

Have you moved and replaced the old cards.xml? Try checking to see if Vault of the Archangel and Chosen of Markov are there and report your results.

An XML file is a plaintext file that is just a method of storing data. You can create your own cards, but other people won't know what they do unless you both have the same cards.xml file.
You shouldn't be using the Oracle tool to update the cards.xml. Instead, replace the old cards.xml file with the new.

How to install
If you can download a 10MB file and you don't mind getting all sets:
Transform cards were done by hand, and therefore more likely to have an error.
