Wizards, if we dont get a reprint of birds of paradise, then can we at leat get us some utopia tree? It would fit the defender ramp theme, and give us a place to pretend our bops roost...
God, please no. Wizards decided to give us that terrible card last time they took BoP away. It was terrible then and it's terrible now. I'd always rather have Farseek than Utopia Tree.
I'd rather have Overgrown Battlement (PLEASE, there's a defender theme in RTR)....probably too close to axebane guardian tho or better yet, Wall of Roots.

A better option is just to use Transguild Promenade, it would leave you almost in the same boat (at least for mana fixing and not ramping) and would not be destroyed for some turns.
Avarage turn 4 for land destroy but turn 2 - 3 for creature destroy Ultimate Price or Murder for example.
The reason people are looking for a Birds replacement is because of the desire for ramping - not color fixing. Thanks to the shocklands our fixing is excellent, and will only improve with Gatecrash.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Simic provide some sort of ramp creature, it seems inline with their science-nature experiment theme.
The fact that makes Birds of Paradise such a powerful mana dork is that it flies. We saw this last season, the bird can wield a sword better than a seasoned soldier, and in conjunction with other pump effects like Wolfir Silverheart can be a devastating dork, arguably the best ever printed.
I think fixing that is pretty easy, make it a 0/1 Plant with reach for G. It's better than Utopia Tree but worse than Birds of Paradise.

Yeah, in One game with my angry birds defiance defiance deck i swung with a 23/24 bop on t3 hahaha! Loved it. Oops tree isnt a defender, my bad
Simic Mana Dork(G/U)

T: Add G or U to your mana pool.
Sir, are you working on the staff of Wizards, by designing cards? Because this one is the bomb.
Arbor Elf fits the Standard better in our current scenario. We got shocks, we got the possibility of having a enchantment block soon, and Arbor Elf is a great card for those situations. Of course, it doesn't have flying and stuff, but, I do believe that you guys remember what happened when we equipped swords on birds.

(Give your LGS judge a hug. He deserves it.)
Nothing. All I want is Heroes vs. Monsters spoilers.
Arbor Elf is green. You're giving Blue a mana dork with no drawbacks and 2 toughness is a good upside vs. all the 1 dmg and -1/-1 spells out there being played.

What's next giving blue reanimation spells too?
Calm down, it is not a real card and it maybe won't ever be. Also, being G is great already, because this card doesn't fit U in any way possible.

The Simic connection's not such a bad idea, though. What about an ability like:
Managraft 2 (This creature enters the battlefield with 2 +1/+1 counters on it. Remove a +1/+1 counter from it to add 1 mana of any color to your mana pool)
Yeah, Mana Bloom is much better than the popular perception of it.
It is just too bad you can't remove all the counters at once. "Once per turn" and a large initial investment really kill it. It's not stone unplayable, but no one is ever going to be excited to play with it... It's like when you're playing a goblin deck and the only one drops you have to work with are Crazed Goblin and Raging Goblin. Hey, they work in your deck, but that doesn't mean that they are great pieces of cardboard.

The problem with this is that you just gave Mono-U a mana dork, something that's way out of the color pie. I'd rather have it cost G...
The funny thing is that while that's true, Untap Target Land could be used in blue.

That card would be amazing, and could possibly put a defender deck that is viable in standard.
Also, Mana Bloom is not a bad card either, not as good as birds, but gets the job done.
Yeah, Mana Bloom is much better than the popular perception of it.
