This question has been posed to me a number of times in the past couple days, so I figure an actual thread is necessary to help the word get out.
Shops are typically closed for one of three reasons:
The person or people running the shop request its closure
The shop has been inactive for about a month
No member of the shop has logged on in three weeks*
Why do we do this?
A good shop has beautiful examples of their work. We all know this, and the people who run their shops here are very proud of their work. But this also means that an open but inactive shop will receive requests even if the OP says that they are closed. To ensure things can run smoothly, we need to take steps to prevent inactive or abandoned shops from getting requests. It lowers the potential for user frustration and directs traffic at the people who are still donating their time here.
My Shop was closed, now what?
If your shop was closed, it's no big deal. It will stay available for perusal in the archives and you can simply shoot a PM to any of the mods here and we'll bring it back out if you feel like reopening it.
*This exact clause is new, but it is pretty closely linked with the one month clause; it just gives us an easier metric to ascertain an inactive shop sooner
Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

Because he's the hero MTGS deserves, and the one it needs right now. So we'll global him. Because he can take it. Because he's not just our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. An expired rascal.
