Writing an Article for MTG Salvation

To become a writer for MTG Salvation, you must be a member of our forums (joining is free!). Log in, and send a Private Message to Lanxal, Annorax, or RMS Oceanic which includes:

  • A sample of your writing (this may be either part of an article you've already started or something else entirely, but it must be related to Magic and the topic/s you wish to write about). Around 1000 words.
  • An idea of what your first article might be (REQUIRED).

Note that a full-length article is about 3000 words. We are looking for authors who can write about Magic. We do not accept articles about VS, Yugioh, etc. However, as long as it's about Magic, pretty much any topic is acceptable. We simply ask that your article be informative (what will the reader learn from you?), well-defined (don't write "An Overview of the Metagame of Every Format Ever"), and generally correct (for Pete's sake don't write a tournament strategy article without a good amount of testing data to back it up).

One last request: once you've been admitted to the Writer's Forum, read all of the stickies. All of them. Lots of vital information is contained within, and it's your job to make sure you know what's going on.

Short Story Contest (SSC)

Interested in writing a short story? Interested in criticism of your story? Interested in a contest?

The Personal Writing Forum now offers you all that. Your task is to write a story on a given topic which is chosen by the winner of the last SSC. Your stories will then be rated by three judges - and in the last SSCs one of them has always been a professional writer. Cory Herndon and Will McDermott have both helped us in the past, and we hope to continue that trend in future contests.

Monthly Art Contests

The Artwork forum hosts monthly contests where participants can submit artworks based on given Magic-related topics. This includes the Artwork Contest, Altered Card Contest and Photoshop Contest. Participants are given about three weeks to work on their entries and the winner will be voted by the public. New contests start at the beginning of each month.

Weekly Signature/Avatar Contest

The Weekly Signature/Avatar contest is a place where any member regardless of skill can enter into a themed battle-royal against dozens of artists. At the end of each week there is a user poll that chooses who wins!
