I'm hoping Grand Architect starts seeing more play. I love that guy. I'm sure Splinter Twin might see another jump because it will be one of the top decks now...
It's going to stabilize NPH prices... that's for sure. The upcoming rotation will spike a ton of cards (Block sleepers) and this will only feed or stabilize the changes.
It's an instant speed 5/5 trampler for 4. Wtf do you people want seriously? It has applications in populate/ above the curve beats decks, or in Bant control/ flash. I seriously think anyone mad at this card for any reason other than losing an attacker to instant speed wurm, should go home and make their own awesome card game and leave the rest of us alone.
Personally I see it switching back to B/U control so watch out for wurmcoil engine and tezzi 2.0. RDW is going to be coming back with aggro, and W/G Aggro gets ALOT better. But valakut is really getting the biggest bump. Maybe tempered steel gets a little support?
Watch these card:
Valakut, the molten pinnacle (bump in price but not alot since the promos)
Primeval Titan (skyrockets)
Avenger of Zen
Koth might have a dramatic jump
Vengevine big bump
Razorverge thicket little bump
fauna shaman, mid bump
Tezz potential big bump
Wurmcoil gets bumped.
Vampires as a whole go up (most stable aggro)
Looking at this financially, I guess I would caution people not to over-react. Jace has gone from a 2-of in most Legacy builds that run him to a 4-of. I suspect he'll dip to the low 50s while the magic community recovers from this announcement, and then start a slow climb up to the 60s and 70s (over the course of 6-8 months).
Stoneforge is a different animal. He's become a Legacy archetype, so there's still demand for him, but nowhere near as much as an hour ago (lol). And with the recent printing of the Event Deck, he'll drop under $10 short-term and settle at $10 (still an elite Legacy and Extended rare).
What will really suffer in this announcement is Batterskull. Without Stoneforge to tutor it, it's still a powerful Mythic, but paying 5 mana is very tame compared to cheating into play. The Swords won't suffer because of Legacy and EDH (not to mention that Sword-players will have to buy more than one sword for their decks). But Batterskull's financial future is tied to Stoneforge Mystic, I think. I would expect a drop into the 10-12 range.
I play Legacy Goyf and Taxes. I used to play Standard but I got smart.
"Now isn't a good time to start buying expensive staples. With all the attention legacy's getting with the SCG 5ks and the GPs, it's probably a better idea to wait until the commotion dies down" - 01-27-2010 by luckme10
on that date you could buy $17 Wastelands at any online store.
SWaP and SoFF's demands will decrease sharply, the only thing that will keep their price somewhat intact is the fear that they'll go to SoFI and SoLaS prices. They're just not as good in standard when you actually have to draw them. Jace will likely dip to $50 or maybe even lower. Stoneforge will tank hard as people try to dump theirs and may drop as low as $5-$7. However, foil Stoneforges will likely not take too much of a hit, being pimp and all in eternal formats.
Venser, Koth, and Tezzy will have a degree of resurgence, as people see how they do in a post-Jace meta. If they succeed, they'll keep trending upwards, if not, they'll fall back to where they are now.
Expect Valakut, Mono-green eldrazi ramp, and ExarchTwin along with their parts to start picking up quickly. ExarchTwin is poised to be a very serious overwhelming threat to anything else people are building. Which makes black's discard elements become more appealing-we may see IoK spike its hardest in a month or so, even close to rotation.
Ultimately, there's going to be a lot of shaken up prices, but in the meantime, I just had $600 banned from my deck. Screw you Mr. Forsythe.

Legacy: TES
EDH: Grand Arbiter $tax, Freyalise Stompy, Mimeoplasm Death From the Grave
I'm trying to read the larger picture here. Wizards has done a number of things lately that prove they don't care about Magic cards as investments.
Staples like Sol Ring and Lightning Greaves in every Commander deck
2x Stoneforge Mystics in an event deck (before any ban decisions)
Reprinting the Titans
Now this banned announcement
I'm not complaining about this - but it really makes you stop and think before you invest in certain cards. Will Karakas be printed in the FTV Legends and tank the value of my playset? Will the next wave of Commander decks have different staples? Are there any safe investments not on the reserve list? Goyf? Bob? Fetches?
I just completed my sword cycle last week and I'm not feeling as good about it as I did an hour ago, even though I really only play Legacy.
short version: Wizards is taking larger strides to put a high power level in everyone's hands and it's hard to spend big money on playsets anymore...

To his surprise, the sky responded with a fierce energy he'd never thought to see again.

obviously valakut will get a second look, but with reprintings and rotation, I'm going to stay away from that.
if infect starts to make an impact, i like inkmoth. Koth, tempered steel, architect, consecrated sphinx, and maybe baby jace. Baby jace has a similar context to Primeval Titan so I dunno.
They dropped JTMS from a $50 buy to a $20 buy card!
I think anything green and mythic will gain some value until the rotation.

Isn't this what the players have been asking for ever since Jace TMS went over $50? Wizards quit making cards so dang expensive.
You can't please everyone. If you are keeping the cards because you want to play with them, you don't care about the price. If you are keeping the cards because you expect them to go up in value, then get eternal staples or be ready to trade.
I personally wouldn't be investing in shock lands right now. Those lands were made specifically because they could be reprinted. I do expect them to be reprinted one way or another.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
So, kind of related, how do you all think primeval titan will be post m12, assuming a reprint?
Will he shoot back up to 50 right now, and after m12 he goes down to 20 like baneslayer did?
Or will he just go up like 30?
That said, I think twin & titan will be the two that really go up, with venser, tezz, etc not being to great till post rotation.

His ceiling will probably be 30, either he gets reprinted or rotates in a couple months. If anything it may go up between $20-25 as people rush to build valakut, and depending on results may stay there or drop back down again.
I think Tez 2.0 will jump a bit. He's really fun to play with and very solid in a dedicated build. Basically anything that is big in block now will see some play while folks test waters but are too lazy to experiment with non-tested builds.
After keeping an eye on any and all completed listings for buy it nows from the magic the gathering section of ebay, I noticed a couple things having gone up. Primeval titan shot from $16, to about $25+ now. And Vengevine shot from about $16 up to $20+ now. Splinter Twins and Valakut the Molten Pinnacle also seemed to increase a little as well I noticed. Outside of those, there really wasnt anything as of this morning that really made any significant movements standard wise in an upwards direction.
Cards that look to be falling, are Jace 2.0, Stoneforge, and the swords/batterskull, time will tell where they end up at, but the bannings are certainly going to be a blow to their values in the near term.
(As a side note, in the process of sifting through all of the completed listing buy it nows, I also noticed that apparently someone with 0 or 1 or something of that sort feedback when and started buying up all of the highest valued listings from the magic singles part of ebay, probably 20-30 (or more) high end graded stuff that was up all got bought up.) From the looks of it though the person was just some idiot and it looks like their account got un-registered after that little onslaught of buying.... Gotta love stupid people....)
i was looking last night to buy primes for 18, and when i was gonna pull the trigger this early morning, the stores moved their prices up accordingly, or they were gone. The opportunities are all around us. They're in every break of the game, every minute, every second.
this may be bullish for SoWaP. Multiples have to be played now. Probably more so for SoBaM with its mill effect.

So... What about Tolarian Academy?
Anyway, I can see Jace 1.0 going up in value a little. He's a decent planeswalker that blue can still use.
Proud to be a Christ follower!
Here's a few reasons:
John 3:16 John 8:12 1 Peter 2:24 James 1:12-13
Hebrews 13:8 Ephesians 6:10-17 Psalm 86:8-10
Omg .. Man .. They already said that FtV Legends will be ALL creatures .. and the Academy is on the reserve list ..

well wotc has done bannings before, just not with a big two like this one. usually its one big and a few small ones.
but they've banned stuff like clamp and academy while in standard to grow metas, and this will just accelerate the new type2 of inn and som blocks.
if this bumps the prices of previously cheap cards ive laid my hands on then great for me hahaha
