is very superb. Excellent job painting around the title & "Creature -- Wizard", and excellent job matching the colors. I am surprised tht you chose to "bend" the orange energy to the right rather than have it shoot off at an angle symmetrical to the blue energy; why did you make this decision? The cloak on the bottom is very well done too, but the shadows feel very off; they do not match the shadows on the cloak above the text box, and this throws it off for the viewer and makes the lower cloak appear more flat. It is an easy fix, though- just go back and glaze it over with a few thin coats of black in certain areas, if you so desire
Your gold border around the text box is a tricky thing. It works very well along some of the edges, but the parts where it even remotely fails to form a crisp, straight line are incredibly distracting to me; I think these minor craftmanship issues are probably amplified by the nature of the gold paint. Have you ever tried outlining the edges of the gold paint in a thin black or a dark grey line? I imagine this technique might work very well for you, and would like to see you give it a shot sometime.
Thank you for the extensive review. I really enjoyed reading your critiques. I hope you do it again.
The reason the yellow energy shoots off to the right is because I was following the natural curve in the original art; furthermore, one can imagine that a mage such as the one depicted would likely be targeting a single foe in combat thus I decided that the yellow energy would follow the same line as the blue energy in most cases. As far as the rest of the critique goes: Thanks!

I haven't been posting in a little while, but I wanted to commend Masa on these. They are absolutely fantastic and your style really is second to none. I like the vibrant colors and the figures are well proportioned and life-like. I hope they'll be up for auction!
Very nice Force of Wills there, Masamune You have the most unique style when it comes to altering cards, and it's so fun to look at your work when you're done It's like you paint with Skittles or something....
Xanth thank you so much for your indepth comments not only on my work but on the work of others as they encouraged me to go back and look at them again in a new light. As for the pencil alters I agree that I quite like them as well and plan on working more on them without totally abandoning colour as I love colour
Masamune- Beautiful FoWs I especially like the second one...
First off, I am always impressed with Masamune's work........the style is so bold and dark; it has a very strong impact. I hope to try some original art in the same style sometime...
Anyways, on to the next 10 bird tokens (11-20 out of 30). The first 10 were pretty weak, but I'm hoping for some comments on these ones if people wouldn't mind weighing in.
And for reference the birds are: Aven Farseer, Defiant Falcon, Skyshroud Falcon, Firewind Falcon, Spire Owl in the first batch and Royal Falcon, Aven Trooper, Mesa Falcon (1), Mesa Falcon (2), and Pestilent Kathari.

Thanks guys, unfortunately these were part of that same commission that I've been taking forever on (sick+work= not much getting done).
is cute. I too think it looks like a Charizard, but if I had never heard of pokemon, I would certainly think it looks like a dragon. You have matched the flame color pretty well, too. I suggest you try sketching out multiple images of the characters you intend to add to future alters and focus on portraying their three-dimensionality, unless you are going for a very cartoony approach.
I like to act like I have never heard of pokemon. It helps me forget about it.
if you look closely, though I could have matched the flame colour, you'll see that I didn't. The original colour was the red of some kind of death and decay spell, perfect for terminate but not the colour of a dragons breath. I'm still amazed that the colour replacement worked out so well.
I have issues with 3d things. until I was ten or eleven I had never seen anything in 3d. nowadays I still barely see in more than 2 dimensions and as such, shading baffles me. the fact that I can't get the paints to blend on the card really doesn't help.
as such, I find 2d (or the occasional 2 tone) a lot easier.
one day I will try and sort out this issue but my other imperfections come first.
Regardless of how it is done though A-1 for thinking outside the box, Bigup you constantly push the envelpoe interms of bringing new techniques to the table.
Once again, this idea is hardly new, though you would have to look back a long way to see where I suggested doing the same thing to the stomach of a Mirror Entity.
Back then the idea was rejected on the grounds that it would never work.
the only issue I have with this alter is the crack on the mirror. while it is a nice artistic touch, it also looks a lot like that of unmake, making it hard to tell what card it is from the art alone.
I hope sholder is a word I'm not aware of, because I think you meant 'shoulder'
Me and my damn spelling well thanks for pointing that out and Fixed...also added a bit more contrast in the background I like it better this way I think.
Bteddy, I'm liking your content more and more. You've got the Vroman touch - minute you drop this guy into play, everyone who gets the reference will want to own it.
@ajax: FInally, a use for all those horrible but pretty Aven Troopers...what a waste of a lovely illustration

But the mirror isn't what's cracked in unmake. It's the real kithkin that shatters =O
If he made the mirror perfect and somehow made me shatter, I'd be worried about the similarities to unmake. Also that I just shattered.
I'm going to try to do a bloodbraid elf soon...but what the heck is she holding? Any ideas? The left hand is obviously a cutlass/scimitar type sword...but what is that on the right? They almost look like Talim's elbow blade from soul calibur...
I have nothing but the greatest respect and admiration for the other posters of this forum. Especially BigUp, Yawg07, and CardKitty. You are all an inspiration to me.

I've looked at your website, and while you do some pretty nice alters, in my opinion your signature ruins them. Most of the time the signature color is not in the same color scheme as the art and it's incredibly big.
@ BellyWorms - Thank you very much for your feedback. About my signature is it mostly the size and color that are distracting or is it also a placement, shape and style issue? What I am asking is do you think the actual design of the signature needs work or is it more of an implementation problem?

I actually sampled that same quote into one of my songs way back when. Such a great quote (from a movie with many..)
Your life isn't complete until you see this film, folks.
The alter itself I'd like to see much more fleshed-out and in color. Seems too 'preliminary' or something.
@Mas: Both FoW's are nice but the 2nd is definitely my favorite of the two.

tried it when I was younger.
it's sticky, nowhere near opaque enough and both fades and wears rather quickly.
unless masamune has the pure form of the colourings used in skittles I doubt this is even a possability.

It fits with the pencil style being faded like that.
@ajax: FInally, a use for all those horrible but pretty Aven Troopers...what a waste of a lovely illustration
Also, I agree, bleedingteddy DOES remind me a lot of Vroman's style.
Very cool stuff
Agreed, it looks so good solid white like that. And I never noticed those little goblins on that visions bird. Theyre silly.

Psyducks don't kill people, they use mental attacks and therefore can only lead to said trauma at most.
