Do you know what playmats those are or where I could get them. The only kind I have access to is Dragon Shield. Those are decent, but plain ones like that are better for alterations (and my friend used to have one and I felt it was of better quality).
I was looking for an artist besides Guay who does playmats and I find those... I take it they're not yours?
No, that's definitely not my work. It does indeed seem a bit rushed and with the cost of the mat included, I wonder how they can afford to do that, unless they have preset images and they scan them on somehow.
As for me, this was my first playmat, all faeries because it was made for a friend that plays them, but I've become particularly fond of it. Features the art of Mistbind clique, Pestermite, Oona's Blackguard, & Sower of Temptation (Left to Right.) I might do commissions eventually, but I'm not quite sure.
I sketch on my play mat when I am bored all of these were done with colored pencil and black sharpie except the dragons wings were done with a gold marker these are all pics I found on the internet I liked and drew onto my play mat
<snip borderline NSFW images>
As I get time I will scan more of the sketches in

Just because images are in a spoiler doesn't make them appropriate.
Warning issued because they were barely over the line.

I heard from a couple members of mtgia.com that my mats had been mentioned here at Salvation.
First off, this site is insane! super active, well moderated, and very very diverse. I just joined and have really enjoyed catching up on some of the older discussions. You'll have to excuse me if you see me necro-ing some stuff.
As far as my mats.
You can see a few examples of my work at my website, www.tontomtoofat.com. Its a little (extremely actually) basic. I also only have a few examples up there. If you have any ideas, or would like to make any request feel free to hit me up at tontomtoofat@gmail.com.
Here is one of my new favorites that I did for a 2HG team in Iowa.

Can I get some opinions on what to sharpie onto my mat and possibly instructions...
I am a decent artist, so I am not too worried about how it will turn out, more so I am lazy and I am wondering if there are any recommended techniques to doing this.
As for what art I should use, I am struggling between a few, I will list in the order I want the most on there, to the least, but give me some input as to what looks good!

as for instructions I print it out about the size of my pad and trace them with carbon paper them on the go over that in sharpie for the ones I sell to people in my area some time you have to print it on 4 sheets to get it as big as the play area
then I use drawing pencils form an HB all the way to a 9 for shading and detail work leaving the sharpie for just the main lines
FYI HB is hardest then it goes 1-9 hardest to softest gives you different shades of pencil lead

I've worked on a few playmats, myself. I've tried using Carbon Paper but I found that playmats are either too soft or squishy or something, and it proves very difficult to use the Carbon paper without accidentally stabbing holes through it. I tend to be a tad rough when I sketch, etc., but still... I found it pretty hard to press hard enough to transfer the Carbon Paper to the playmat without ripping it.
Is it possible to draw on it with pencil and then just go over it in ink? I'd imagine the answer is yes, although if you made a mistake with the pencil could you erase the graphite without leaving noticeable marks on the mat itself? If so, it seems as though you need to go without mistakes or use the carbon paper.
I have always been a perfectionist with my drawings so I erase and draw again several times it seems. Should I go for the carbon paper then?
Just sketch out your sketch on actual paper first, then line up Carbon in between Playmat and Sketch. Then just trace the Sketch and you should be able to see a vague outline of it on the mat. It's really hard to get all of it to transfer because the Playmats are so squishy, like a mouse pad. Good luck.
Here is my newest one. I think its my favorite. I played Welder Control back in the day and when someone suggested it I was waaaaaay excited to do it. Its probably my fourth or fifth version, and I think having both the Slaver and the Metalworker together is pretty cool.
If the pictures are too dark, brightness wise, please let me know. The combo of my camera and computer may be making these appear well lit to me, but dark as hell to others.

Erasing pencil from a playmat is next to impossible
The type of mat that you drew on....is that the all white mat? where did you find that mat? i cant seem to find it anywhere.
Ditto. I can't find blank playmats anywhere. Some kid from Jersey came up to the shop today and had a blank playmat. I offered him like 20$ for it and he wouldn't give it up for some reason. Oh well.

It looks like my Isamaru head combined with the Shiv volcano in the background from the Teferi playmat I did.

The Chatter and Urza ones are the best.
