Perhaps you are right, but I still strain to understand how no one goes "hey, what's Rakdos doing here? He wasn't here a moment ago." Let's not forget that these are insane bloodcrazed cultists either who would probabl not even notice real Rakdos on the field as they fight.
Did you not realize that Jace went the full nine yards and made it look like he was summoning Rakdos, having the illusion burst from the ground?
Did you not realize that Jace went the full nine yards and made it look like he was summoning Rakdos, having the illusion burst from the ground?
He even extended the illusion to himself, surrounding himself with illusions of dark magic, making his eyes appear black, etc. In all, it was quite an impressive and thorough effect.
If you even imply that Jace has UST with Chandra, I will infract you.
I'm not kidding.
...And just like that, I suddenly felt a whole lot more inclined to emigrate from Wizards. I'm seeing the plus side of joining this community much more clearly now.
If Jace went through the motions of seeming to summon Rakdos, the fact that the cultists were convinced so fully definitely ties in with Jace's belief that summoning actually creates real creatures. He had to learn that idea somewhere, after all, and even if he didn't originally get the notion on Ravnica, he must have had the idea at least reinforced by Ravnican assumptions of how Magic worked. I think it's quite likely that Ravnicans generally believe summoning draws the original entity to the caster.
And from the perspective of a cultist, if it looks like your giant demon ruler has suddenly shot up from the ground, do you really wanna be that one guy that raises a skeptical hand and starts loudly second guessing the aformentioned giant demon? The Rakdos aren't suici--wait, hold up. Uh, the Rakdos are suicidal, but not in that way.

And now you need to write a story about Dave, Rakdos Cynic. Maybe he can even meet Bill, Dimir Realist in some sort of 4th wall breaking madness.

Man, it wouldn't even have to break the fourth wall, they probably get Ravnican Equivalent Of Coffee together during their lunch breaks or something.
Besides, Thoctar, Ruwin, and I are all stealing each other's characters for cameos, might as well make the whole damn city a big playground of rather improbable meetings.
...Man, Barinellos comes to the Wizards forums and everything goes off-topic, and I come to Salvation and the same thing happens. It's like every time we travel between the planes we cause slight breaks in the fabric of the forums. Like, little rifts or something. How strange and totally unprecedented.

Oh, Ravnica has coffee. Kos got hooked on Ogrish Coffee while he was a 'jek. Discussed in the first Rav book. I may not have a great memory for most small details, but if it has to do with coffee, I'm your man.

So, you mean Salvation users all over the place will burn their computers in attempt to prevent the forums from collapsing, and eventually, one of you will sacrifice himself and change the nature of the internet forever?
So during Niv-Mizzet's declaration about the DGM prerelease events and the new legendary guild champion cycle, I reached the following passage:
"Each guild will send one champion as its delegate in the running of the maze. At the appointed time, our champions will meet at the Transguild Promenade, and embark on a race through the twists and turns of the maze"
Did anyone else immediately start cracking up and scream "It's the Ravnica version of Wacky Races!!!!!!"? Or was that just me?

"We are goblinkind, heirs to the mountain empires of chieftains past. Rest is death to us, and arson is our call to war."
The Secretist in my mind was well written, especially part 2. After my depression of not enough Niv-Mizzet in the original Ravnica Trilogy and in part 1 I was excited to see how methodical yet unpredictable Niv-Mizzet truly can be. As a detail note I love how they stated that his mouth flared up when he said Ral Zarek's name made the dragon fangirl in me tremble.
Although I am sad that there is no Gideon in the second book and it didn't focus too heavily on any of the sets of Gatecrash except Dimir and Gruul with a hint of Boros. Something inside me wants Gideon to somehow be the Boros champion and Jace be the Dimir champion (because of Lasav's scheming) but I know all about Gideon's dislike of how Aurelia runs the Boros.
I do have a question though, do we know the chronology of this story? Obviously its after everything in Zendikar but how far apart is it from when the Guildpact fell? The only characters from the first books I saw referenced, other than guild leaders, lately is Feather in Uncharted Realms and Teysa in flavor text or two of cards in Gatecrash. Although, both of them are mildly unreliable when tabbing age due to Feather being an Angel and Teysa with the Orshov blood.

They won't tell us how long after it all is.... They'll only give us the vague "a generation" to work with because they're afraid if they don't double check their work they'll create a timeline snafu.
Unfortunately they've already done that with Alara and Scars of Mirrodin contradicting each other.
If we could place when the Guildpact fell on a regular A.R. calender, we could give you an idea of how long it's been, but they never placed it in any timeline that was helpful to us.

It is a shame they don't keep track of how the timeline is. I'd love to know if Pivlic is still alive in this Ravnica. I guess the only basis we have is the assumptions of how long it took to build Ravnica back up to how it was before the nephelim attack.
Onto a different topic pertaining to the books, I don't think I've seen this topic on the forums yet but the guild champions of the next set are likely to be characters from the book since Emmara was revealed to being made into a card. I can't wait to see the other champions then see them in the book, but to be honest I wish it would be the other way around even though they probably are already in the books.
In the Beyer interview, he said he had to push to get Emmara to be the champion--to me, that signifies that they had another champ in mind. If I had to guess, it'll be a mix of both book characters and random ones. We have Ruric Thar and Emmara confirmed, I'd expect Lavinia to make an appearance, but something tells me Exava isn't going to be the Rakdos champ(the mothership & flavor text in-game point to Massacre Girl).

Ooo Ruric Thar was confirmed!? I love his personality. Where was this confirmed I'd love to know. Considering though if they do select random ones I hope they are worth the selection. Like a good few people have been saying I hope at least card wise it would be Feather I would love to have an official art of her, as well as Pivlic but I don't see him stepping up.
I don't know why I always think of Exava as being Massacre Girl, they are similar but I have to remind myself they are different people. I do hope it will be Massacre Girl over Exava, she gets on my nerves. She's like a more sadistic Harlequin only the voice in my head of her annoys me more, whereas Massacre Girl I've always seen being darker and not as kidding around as much as, in my opinion, Exava has been.

Exava is a bloodwitch, Massacre Girl was repeatedly said to be just a killer and eventual ringleader/ring champion. I have never thought them to be the same person.
And judging from who got screentime in The Secretist, Exava is a quite probable candidate, as is Mirko Vosk and Lavinia.

I have to say for someone new to magic, Ive loved both parts.
Although Im a little confused...
I assume these are the events after the Eldrazi and Zendikar? Karn and the Phyrexians? If so, does anyone know if the Zendikar/Phyrexian story will be completed? Or why they were stopped?
I assume these are the events after the Eldrazi and Zendikar? Karn and the Phyrexians? If so, does anyone know if the Zendikar/Phyrexian story will be completed? Or why they were stopped?
Definitely after Zendikar, and therefore presumably also after Scars.
Don't worry, though. I'm sure that the Phyrexians will be compleated.
She's like a more sadistic Harlequin only the voice in my head of her annoys me more, whereas Massacre Girl I've always seen being darker and not as kidding around as much as, in my opinion, Exava has been.
Well, the only time we have seen Massacre Girl in the stories she wasn't the most serious person ever, she WAS kidding around actually.
So, a compilation of potential guild champions based on flavor text. I've cut out least likely candidates for this.
Azorius - Arrester Lavinia
Dimir - Strava, Dimir Mage
Rakdos - Massacre Girl (text) Exava (story)
Gruul - Ruric Thar (confirmed)
Selesnya - Emmara Tandris (confirmed)
Orzhov - Teysa Karlov
Golgari - Cevraya
Simic - Speaker Trifon
Izzet - Bori Andon
Boros - Dars Gostok
Dimir is most likely going to be Mirko Vosk, seeing as he was the major character in the Dimir in both the novel and Uncharted Realms. He might have failed, but... then again, so did Lavinia.
Teysa is... questionable. She's not a spring cockatrice and unless she's going to bring a retinue to do most of the work, she's not a good choice. Still possible but...
Bori Andon is compromised, he's been subverted by the Dimir.
We have no clues toward the Golgari, Simic, or Boros unless Pel Javya of the Boros was hinted at in Uncharted Realms. Still... not solid.
They won't tell us how long after it all is.... They'll only give us the vague "a generation" to work with because they're afraid if they don't double check their work they'll create a timeline snafu.

Could you expand on that?
I love finding out more about the stories in Magic
I'm sure Barinellos will give a better explanation, but in essence;
Alara wants to suggest that maybe a century or so has passed since the mending.
This is supported by Marisi being so incredibly old and Elspeth's character was intended to be an oldwalker.
Meanwhile, the Scars timeline wants the mending to have happened maybe a generation ago.
This is supported by there being no old people on Mirrodin and by Venser not being super old.
I can't know for certain, but I figure they were going with the Alara timeline originally.
The first plan for Scars block was that there wasn't going to be a scars block.
Originally the block was going to be the New Phyrexia block and we would later find out that it was on Mirrodin which had been assimilated and it was Mirrodin all along oh nooooo.
But some in R&D thought it might be more interesting to show the Mirrans losing, and they had to retcon a bunch of things to make that work right.

Is it just me, or should the Illusion NIV have said, "may the odds be ever in your favor"
His challenge is like MTG Hunger Games....
On a side note, let's us know what the DGM PR release will be like... A bit.

Worth a try. Good luck.
