Wait wait wait... You are aware that Phyrexian Ambulators of the past looked like black discs right? Great, this'll go just fantastically now. Blargh.
Edit: Oh good, it isn't an ambulator since it's a solid disk of DARKSTEEL. Also interesting, because it confirms that Karn made Darksteel, not Memnarch.
*facepalm* Guess I should really care how I word things in a predominantly Phyrexian thread.

I thought that as well, but a closer look at the passage raises a troubling point:
It is said that once a trinket was created by a curious man of silver, come into the fullness of his powers and beginning to refine his craft. Though the least of his treasures it was among his most valued. Held close to his chest it had a centering influence on his thoughts, and in the eternal play of light around it and the whirring sound that followed he found a useful meditation. No more constant companion did he have. But in due course he faced another wielding powers like unto his, and in the exchange of terrible magic that followed it slipped by the wayside. There among the razorgrass it lay hidden for a time, ever whirring softly.
THe only other person with power like Karn was Jeska (and slobad) he never fought with either of them. Also the Razor grass wasn't around when Karn left with Jeska at the start of Moons.
Another man of silver rose to prominence, though this one was much unlike the first. While fleeing from the forces he sent to level her home a frightened young leonine stumbled upon it, kicking it with her foot. No omen so unusual could be ignored. Taken in hand, it exerted a calming influence. Everything was going to be okay. The world was not going to end, not today – surely this ancient thing had endured worse. That girl would grow and become a brave warrior, and then a kha among her kind, ever certain in purpose and unyielding in courage. She would not break before a mere trinket would. In this way her clan became famous, and the trinket was handed down – mother to daughter, daughter to son, until its wielder was pulled from the world entirely and it dropped to the ground to roll into a hole. There it nestled in the earth for a time, ever whirring softly.
This is an interesting look into the Kha. I'm not sure if they are implying that the son here is Raksha or not. It would be pretty insulting to claim that Raksha became Kha because he had this artifact and not because he was the reincarnation of the first Kha.
A dark blight now slips its coils about the shining world, and the hope and strength its erstwhile masters once cherished begins to wither. But now another has found it, another holds it, another hears the comfortable hum cradling their mind. Ages it has endured, and still it is untarnished, still the ring of light orbits close about it. The world has not ended yet, or the trinket would not be here. And in that its wielder can draw strength, inspired by a symbol, ever whirring softly.
Overall, i wouldn't use this passage as proof of anything. There are too many little inconsistancies that make me question the author's knowledge of Mirrodin's lore. It seems like they had an overview of the plot points and just wrote things that sounded good.
It's possible Karn created Darksteel, but Doug's article on Darksteel makes it clear that creative really hasn't decided what/how/who created darksteel.
Though luckily this is set us as a fable (or at least the first part is), so we can just assume that the story is incorrect. Though i am interesting in learning whether the son who inherits the artifact is suppose to be Raksha.
Also, weren't we suposed to get Jin-Gitaxias today?.
Rofl I have hivemind powers! Now I have to find a picture of togepi that has been Compleated
As far as the darksteel hockey puck I have to say I dont really like the flavor text that came with it. Its like trying to reminiscent but not really telling us anything.

Why? Memnarch was around for centuries, if not millennia, after Karn left; he could've made darksteel at any point during that time. A relic doesn't have to be something primordial; does something in the real-world made for a Judeo-Christian faith not count as a relic in comparison to something from Egypt, or Maya, or Sumer? Didn't think so.
About any "subpar" mechanics or cards: Context is king.
If I make a templating or grammar error, let me know.
The franchise MtG most resembles is Battlestar Galactica. Why? Its players exist in, at most, a dozen different models at any given point in time, with perhaps up to 3% variation, 5% if you're lucky.

Because it refers to a being made of silver who dropped it in an exchange of great magics. Then it was picked up by another silver being much like him, but very different.
IE: Karn fought a planeswalker and dropped it, then Memnarch found it.
And Memnarch never cast spells. He built things, but he never used magic.
@Skibo- I don't think it's a case of the Kha being declared by the item, but rather, the item acting like a crown passed to the next kha.

Barinellos is refering to the short blurb we got about the relic being made by Karn.
As i pointed out, this blurb has a few problems with it, and i don't think it should be treated at cannon.
So alot of people think that this art is the art for Jin-Gix.
But a quick glance leaves me skeptical. Jin has an insanely thin torso, which this Phyrexian has a bulky one. Though i guess that could be a matter of perspective. The hands are also off, Jin's outline shows he has very long fingers, whereas this PHyrexian doesn't. Also the face profile doesn't match even taking into account the extensions on either side.
I guess this could all fall into the artist's interruptation of the sketch, but what bothers me most is the framing of the picture. It seems more focused on the "New Phyrexia" in his hands than on the character himself. I guess this could be Jin in the art, but i don't think it's his card.
* Also Jin is about completing, not about taking over Mirrodin and transforming it. Him holding a model of a transformed Mirrodin doesn't really make sense for the character.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Though this has really gotten me interested to see what Jin actually looks like. Hopefully tommarow we'll have it.
Most of the Praetors's cards seem to have changed a bit from the Sketch Concept. So I don't think we have enough info to tell. That said, the creature in that artwork would probably have to be important, and it doesn't look like any of the other praetors.
Also, does Elesh Norn remind anyone else of this guy?
I figure it's just a generic Phyrexian in an abstract representation of their dominance over the plane. But I guess it would make a little more sense if it was an important Phyrexian figure. Still, Jin-Gitaxias's card art would logically have more of a focus on him as an individual, just like the other four praetors.
I agree, this to me seems to be a spell that is related to phyrexians controlling the plane as that is what the art suggets. Though i am getting quite antsy that we don't have jin yet.
Karn's sausage fingers have been seen elsewhere in the art of Argent Mutation, not to mention being on the packaging for the Mirrodin Pure packaging mockup. He's looking bright and shiny.
We both know that it's either one or the other. So both are possible. Non-argument, sorry to say.
One of the packaging is fake, but the art is real. They wouldn't commission fake artwork for one set of packaging when we know Action will have both Mirran and Phyrexian cards (and artwork).
Karn's already complete... he's devoid of flesh and perfect. It's also highly unlikely that Creative would take an iconic character like Karn and disfigure him to the point of unrecognition. Also that Phyrexian has skin, making him not Karn.
I always figured that's Karn, having finally given in to Phyrexia and being Compleated himself.
You know what? I think I see it too.
That's a weird arguement. You might argue, by that token, Glissa, the Traitor wasn't Glissa Sunseeker.
