Hobbitg, there' Lille, Ghent and Manchester. I'm going to at least those. Other destinations also quite easy to reach with easyJet and such.

Yeah, Minnesota has gotten 2 GP's in the past 3 years or so, one in 2009 and before that there was one in 2005. The midwest gets screwed over in terms of the number of GPs we get, especially in the upper midwest sure there are some but not a whole lot.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
The fact that Canada is getting a GP is a good sign they probably will get more for the future. What Magic will most likely do tho, is to continue to put GPs near the border of Canada and US such as in New York or like Minnesota to encourage players from both countries.
Just my opinion.
This is a really good point. I think they'll compromise here as well. Depending on venues, Canada-US border events are way easier to reach than many US locations. From NY, I'd heavily consider traveling to Toronto or Montreal for Legacy rather than Atlanta/Charleston/Chicago.

I mean, hell, we're all on a forum for something that most people would describe as a "children's card game"...do what makes you happy. You are never too old to enjoy yourself.
The chosen country for the "Latin American" GP is very VERY bad, hypocritical of Wizards and they might as well call the GPs in Mexico and Costa Rica North American GPs.
Mexico and Costa is practical matters not Latin America for the players of South America The plane ticket cost to Mexico and Costa rica in the other biggest magic communities of Latin America (Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Mexico is the exception here obviously since they can easily travel to the US GPs ) is as expensive as traveling to Miami or some southern states and only around 200$ cheaper than the ticket to Spain, UK or Germany.
I can say without a shadow of a doubt that at least 90% (not using numbers to exaggerate here) of the South American players won't be able to go to 2 of our "3" GPs.
I think Wizards needs a geography lesson and to understand the price of plane tickets in the region.
EDIT: I don't want to offend any Mexican, Costarican?, Honduran, Salvadorian, Panamanian or anybody else who lives near that country, but it's true that in South America there's bigger magic communities right now. If it were up to me there would be 1 GP in Mexico, 1 in Center America or Colombia and 2 or 3 in South America every year.

Yeah I really like this solution too. Make it easier for both sides without alienating one or the other.

Yeah I could totally see why you'd be cheesed off. Hopefully they do a better job representing South America in the upcoming years.

You've got a rat in your walls, and cheese won't solve anything.
And you think that a plane ticket from costa rica to somewhere else is cheap? A ticket to costA rica bought in time and in advance can be worth like 500 o less from the farthest places of south america
Yeah, me too. I literally started playing again a week after it happened. Though I have a feeling that since the last one was Limited this one will be Constructed and thus I likely won't be able to play in it.
Oh well, GPs have side events and **** right?
They're open tournaments................. why wouldn't you be able to play in it?
Please note, the GP announced for San Francisco is actually in San Jose, not San Francisco. Yes, all of the announcements have said SF, but they are incorrect.
All the stuff I've read has said "San Francisco Bay Area", so that's accurate - although I certainly agree they should really just say "San Jose, CA".
Is there any way to predict the format of the GPs? Or know when the formats will be announced?
Just wondering about what format Chicago GP will be.
The formats for 2012 Season 2 weren't announced that long ago, so unfortunately it could be quite some time before we know what the Season 3 formats are going to be. It is quite annoying to try to plan to travel to tourneys without knowing what the formats are, especially when group travel is involved.

The only thing that can be confirmed is that it's NOT in San Francisco. Granted, one can pretty much get anywhere in the Bay Area within an hour. If the TO is who I think it is, it'll either be at the San Jose or the Santa Clara Convention Center.

I'm happy to this will be the 3rd one in Texas. I hit up the fort worth one, missed Austin and I'll be going to the San Antonio GP right after thanksgiving. Gonna be a good year
The only gp that is close enough for me is going to be sealed/booster, will they have legacy side events? I would play if it was standard or modern even though I dont have anything built for those formats specifically.

Grand Prixs always have a large variety of side events for all formats.
Am I to believe that an Angel of Serenity (a 7 drop mediocre reanimation target) is going to have the SAME value as a Hallowed Fountain? 15 bucks each? Sorry, not going to happen. Not now, not ever.
6 bucks for a Sphinx's Revelation? The value will tank by at least 50% as most of the spells of it's nature (post-Stroke).
In 3 months, say January 1st, it will be interesting to see how much you overpaid.

Actually both of the GP Bostons I've attended or plan to attend this year were the same format Core Set Limited. You may be in luck if your venue does the same.
Would have liked a second in the UK, or nearer to the UK than Lyon.

Any idea where the GP Manchester event location might be? I'll probably book my flight this week, wouldn't mind getting the hotel taken care of too.

Awww, nuts. Didn't want that one. Where can I find confirmation?
It's on the Wizards Event Locator under the premier events link on the "play" side. It shows up in the results underneath or after clicking on the event icon on the map. http://ww2.wizards.com/StoreAndEventLocator/Default.aspx?link=true&ReturnParamMapCenter=%2839.20246222588238,%20-94.58404541015625%29&ReturnParamMapZoom=3&ReturnParamMode=events
