I'm not usually a big fan of blue( in fact it's my least favourite colour). But this is so bizarre I can't help but like it.
being able to dodge removal for 2 mana is a pretty powerful ability, but it's balanced by the fact that you have to mill yourself. Of course, having 4 of these in a deck greatly reduces the number of cards you would mill before hitting a copy.

Why waste time thinking when you can spend it smashing.
Adding fire automatically makes everything awesome.
It seems to me that all people dismissing it because "it technically costs 7" forget there's a little card in standard called Spellskite? Not to mention that by that stupid logic, creatures that don't even have dodging abilities (most of them) are absolutely unplayable because without exception, they will always be killed the moment you drop them.
Or what about the ridiculous argument that it "dies to everything"? Man, I'm surely going to be pissed when all the people out there playing Hornet Sting kill my 5 CMC dude! In reality, this card will be killed by cards that could kill almost every other creature, with the exception of burn. Or maybe you are all upset that it's not a 5/5 robbing you of the wonderful whinefest you could have had on the topic of power creep and chase mythics?
This card is an amazing enabler for shenanigans that we cannot properly imagine yet. That's why it cannot be a common 10/10 with hexproof for U as you expect him to be or whatever.
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
Laboratory maniac. So now milling yourself has become viable. Especially if this guy has some swiftfoot boots on.
As long as you mill yourself all the way and they aren't packing non-targeted removal or artifact removal, yeah, i suppose. The phantasm's still probably not worth it in a deck that wants to mill itself because the mill is random and the card is so goddamn expensive. Against an aggressive deck, you do not want Dross Crocodile to be your 5 drop that you immediately have to trade away, and against a control deck, getting your phantasm countered when you only run 1 so that you can mill harder is bad news. You don't win by drawing a card when you have 14 left in your library, it's all or nothing. This is no Hermit Druid.
ill keep that in mind, and a good general might be kresh for those colors
i am going to be building a damia zombie commander deck cause of all the new zombies, especially rooftop, and the Mirror-Mad Phantasm/living death/liliana vess combo will definitely be in that too
.... eh, uh.... what? Well, this is nice to add more cards to your grave to power up your other cards, but this is a bit absurd.... Of course, if there is a combo of getting something if some cards go to your grave, then this is potentially broken.
ya that's why there is lab maniac + this + clone + memorocide to ride your deck of extra mirror mads

I don't see enough draw/filter to make this plus Lab Maniac a viable combo. it is a 2 card combo in a format without many tutors and one incredibly vulnerable to disruption as both combo peices are creatures.

Yes, but this is very much subject to change if there's any kind of good reanimation, and/or any kind of graveyard tutoring (ala Buried Alive/Entomb). We've already got Necrotic Ooze x4, so all you need to do is get one and get a singleton phantom in the yard. Phantom in the yard ---> play ooze ---> activate ooze ----> deck goes in graveyard ----> reanimate Maniac from yard ---> win?
yet another option for birthing pod seeing as its one of the very few tutor effects and the only reasonably costed one. the only real issue is that it would be nearly impossible to go off before turn 5 even with a perfect draw so you would need to have ways to protect your combo. it's nice because you can ignore the board state though
The art reminds me of the Haunted House ride at Disneyland. Near the end, where you pass a mirror and can see the spirit of a ghost in the car with you.

Into the Maw of Hell is a name so awesome, it deserves its own song.
It would be about a world of brown spikes and red fire, where men fight and scream and become blurry masses. Then it would change to somber, we learn that this glorious place exists only in Raymond Swanland's head. To visit it, you must enter the maw of Hell itself.

You don't want this guy in a pod deck. Decking yourself and randomly removing key cards in your pod-chain can be devastating.
also if skill borrower or necrotic ooze are using this ability they would search for borrowers or oozes rather than phantoms because all instances of the cardname mentioned are replaced with the actual cards name...

Instant include in the version I'm piloting.

its true that liliana vess would raise everything up but it takes longer to set up with her and she can be killed, thus ruining the plan
plus you can always put in both

No...no, they're not.
